What happens to us after we die? Do heaven and hell exist in Judaism? Like most other religious matters, the answer is complicated... للنسخة العربية: • الآخرة في اليهودية
This is inaccurate. The Rambam and the Saadia Gaon didnt disagree on afterlife, they gave descriptions of different attributes of the afterlife. Secondly the Rambam did not say that the souls of the evil are simply destroyed, as he affirmed Rosh HaShana 17a’s words on those who sin with their bodies. Please do not spread inaccuracies about our religion to Muslims.
@@MB-tb6jy the beliefs in this video? they entail denial of verses in the TaNaKh and the words of Chazal (the people entrusted to transmitting the Torah and the teaching of the prophets). For example Isaiah 66:24, Daniel 12:2, etc.
@@sholemyontif8989 So whats the afterlife according to you? Isn't it that the messiah will come and ressurect all the ancient jews and they all will live there for eternity?
The point is to live the life you do have in a way to make the world better for your descendants. What's the point of expecting more when you don't do the best with what you already have?
Something important to note, according to Judaism, if someone does go to hell (which we believe that everybody does even for a little bit, seeing as no one is sin free, not even the greatest sage), the maximum they can be there is 12 months. In fact Judaism if someone loses a parent, the male offspring say a special prayer for the soul of the deceased multiple times during every prayer session for 11 months after the person passed away. The reason we only say it for 11 months is because we don't ever want to believe that our parent was so bad that they needed to be there for the full 12 months. The only time someone would end up in hell for eternity is if they're the scum of the earth (think the Stalin's, hitlers, and Jeffery Epstein's of the world. And yes Jeffery was Jewish. But we do not claim him as one of our own)
(That is because they said, “The Fire will not touch us except for a number of days.” And what they invented deceived them in their religion.)
This is also not true. The wicked get there soul destroyed and there is no time in death. So 12 months may seem longer. This myth is pushed by liberal Jews but it is false.
I’m pretty sure not even them. Their correction after death is more intense and uncomfortable, but I’ve heard nothing about eternal punishment for them.
When talking about an essential point of belief or doctrine, it is correctly described as a "TENET" of the faith. A "TENANT" is a person who rents property.
I’ve always lived with a comfort in believing a righteous person can only die once a righteous person is born. I don’t particularly believe in Heaven, but that view always gave me some peace 💙
That's sufficient for you? Well, this helps me remove another religion as possible truth. All that's left is Hinduism and Buddhism. Good luck with all this nonsense.
@@Rotisiv I do good things, which is subjective anyway, not because of reward after death. I do it because it makes the receiver feel good, they in turn may do it to others and so and and so forth. The motivation should never be because of personal gain in some supposed realm after death
Sheol (translated as Hades in the LXX Septuigint) was the afterlife in the Tanakh (Old Testament). It is not well defined but is clearly an Underworld type of existence similar to most ANE peoples. It is mentioned 65 times in the OT, thus, a pretty significant theological concept to ancient Hebrews.
I don't understand. If Jews are unsure what happens after we die, what do they believe happened? Do they believe God did not inform any of the many prophets He sent to guide humanity and especially the Jewish people what happens after we die? Or He did, but they didn't pass on His message faithfully? Or they did, but the Jewish community did not preserve their message faithfully? Or they did, but so many false opinions were mixed with them that the truth of the matter can no longer be discerned?
Simply vanish = Oblivion..., And , if souls just vanish like animals then you can ask why they exist in the first place..., You would have to say then that it's necessary for living creatures to have a soul...

@@FNFNFN99KKK Yes. Capacity for sin is the price for free will, or free choice if you're being pedantic. You cannot have free choice if you cannot sin. But you do have free choice, you cannot relinquish it.

The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Forgiveness must be given by the person you wronged, not by God. Don't pray, apologise to anyone you have wronged and seek to make things better for them. If you've done irreparable damage, such as murder, you cannot get forgiveness at all.
parma dola all other religions have been corrupt and changed. So god brought down the Quran and vowed in the Quran that it will not be changed. 1400 years later the vow still stays. It doesn’t matter if you were born into a Muslim family. That doesn’t give you power to say it’s false.
My question would be, why do Jewish people deny that prophet Muhammad is a messenger of God? I'm guessing you're Jewish and seem nice, so it would be interesting to see what your thoughts are. And whether you have read the Quran. Because Islam believes in prophet Moses pbuh and believes he is a prophet of God.
Nobody speaks for God. That idea was put to rest in the old testament. So that's why mohammed, jesus and a bunch of others are not believed to be messengers of God.
“Gardens of perpetual residence, which they will enter, beneath which rivers flow. They will have therein whatever they wish. Thus does Allah reward the righteous” [an-Nahl 16:31] And those who have earned evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is the like thereof, and humiliating disgrace will cover them (their faces). No defender will they have from Allah. Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the darkness of night. They are dwellers of the Fire, they will abide therein forever.” [Surah Yoonus 10:27] And (remember) when Moosa (Moses) said to his people: ‘O my people! Remember the Favour of Allah to you, when He made Prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other among the Alameen (mankind and jinns, in the past). “[Mention] when Allah said, ‘O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ’” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:55]. Sura 98 Nor did the People of the Book make schisms, until after there came to them Clear Evidence. Those who reject (Truth), among the People of the Book and among the Polytheists, will be in Hell-Fire, to dwell therein (for aye).
In ancient Hebrew beliefs, unlike modern beliefs, everyone righteous and wicked go to Sheol,a type of underworld, although it is probably, yet not 100% proven that the righteous get a better life in Sheol.I reccomend watching Jeff a Benners presentations about the afterlife for some more context.
You are correct that the Torah does not speak of an after life like the hellenist. But you are incorrect that it doesn't speak of a life after this earth. The hellenist view (modern Christianity) is that we die then we are judged to go to heaven or he'll. This is partially incorrect. In psalms, ecclesiastes and the prophets it states God will judge us on the last day. Thus not immediately like the hellenist believe. On that day, people will be resurrected (a technical afterlife). The righteous will stay on the earth in peace. The unrighteousness will leave the earth as they deserve. People do not go to heaven when they die but to sheol to wait on the judgement.
Noone knows? Nonsense. Many people have visited the other world in dreams or visions and know things for an actual fact. And the souls of animals are eternal. What's the point of heaven with no animals?
I agree. There's no way the soul of animals will perish there's no logical reason why god would do that. If that's true then I don't wanaa go lol I want my soul to perish too if I'm not going to be reunited with my pets.
Hellfire is not eternal in islam for everyone even if God said they will last forever because he made an exception: read also from V.128 to V.130 (An-naam) in arabic: ila macha allahu which means "except what God wants" Also in surah (Hud) From v103 to 108 the prophet mohamed talked about the last person in the hellfire who after he go in paradise in hadith Muslim Bukhari v23 (an-naba) in arabic "ahqaba" means long time (limited) V.35 (Al jaathiya ) God wrote in a book my mercy precedes my anger
so if there isn't heaven to look forward to or hell to be in awe of, what hold a Jewish person to take his commandments seriously, if there are no repercussions and the worst that could happen is just your soul vanishing, like an eternal sleep, why bother following the Torah and the Talmud
Why do you need the promise of heaven or hell to be good in your life? That's a bit immature, isn't it? Why can't you be good to make life easier for other people? Only donkeys need carrot and stick.

If Religious Jews aren't even in agreement about the Hear-after then what are they striving for? What is the purpose of Judaism? Does it even have a main purpose?
They are in agreement actually, this video just f*cked it up. The examples in this video are actually describing different aspects of the Jewish afterlife. Also, for Jews, the goal isn’t reward in the afterlife, It’s to help the world (Tikun Olam) and follow G-d.
No, actually, the gemara is very clear. Most notions of the torments in hell and especially the grave in islam are from Mystic Judaism. How do I know? I was a muslim. I actually knew yasir qadhi personally and i converted to Judaism.
Even then they don't. Nobody goes to heaven except for a few instances where people were taken directly to heaven without dying. I don't think heaven is what people think it is.

afterlife is never mentioned in the five books of Moses ????? ha!!! I'm pretty sure Abel's blood cried to God from the ground I'm pretty sure Saul rose up Samuel from Abraham's bosom, I can continue to go on if you'd like, maybe try reading the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel I don't know
You never read something spirtually? Did Abel's blood literally scream or talk or cry? Or did God for the first time see a man kill another man his own brother?
Qur'an 2:80 And they say, "Never will the Fire touch us, except for [a few] numbered days." Say, "Have you taken a covenant with Allāh? For Allāh will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allāh that which you do not know?"
The afterlife is one of the most important aspect of faith especially in monotheism! And one of the main reasons that makes sense of sacrificing this life which is short/ignorable compared to the eternal afterlife! Having such vagueness and ambiguity in the afterlife in my opinion totally sprays doubts all over such a belief system rendereing it incomplete to say the least.
So you sacrifice alcohol, sex, music all the carnal pleasures in this life just to have unlimited carnal pleasures in the next like? yeah sounds legit.
Well take a look at Sikhism then, a monotheistic religion with basically no afterlife. Or at least an uncoventional afterlife that isn‘t a conscious experience, but rather, a dissolution of the soul, making it one with everything. Like a water droplet returning to the vast ocean. Its the most beautiful interpretation of the afterlife so far.
@@Hananiah70but keeping his commandments is a pain and life is more fun without them. Without punishment or reward why bother. Just get on with life and enjoy life.
@DisobedientSpaceWhale like the narrator said, it isn't solid whether there's an afterlife or not. Hence, it is better to live a moral life just in case there's an afterlife.
People all over the world live without thinking like that. Many athiessts, or Native Americans, or Bhuddists. You really need heaven to motivate you? Don't you like to do anythint?
Christianity and Islam believes eternal hell , Heaven or Judgement day. But Judaism, Hinduism, buddhiism, Zorastrianism, Sikhism doesn't believes eternal hell Heaven or Judgement day.
I mean doesn't it accept at the very least some sort of alloted place for the dead ? I thought also the Messiah was supposed to come and bring about the day of judgement I mean the book of Daniel heavily implies it.
@@tysolbohan6446 You should just read the Islamic perspective, it's quite clear as to what happens. Jesus returns to fight the anti christ, then there is a period of peace, but after jesus dies, and a period of time later evil and corruption will start for the final time, it will be so great that eventually it will be enough the horn will be blown the world will be destroyed, and after a period of time the day of judgment will start where everyone will be accountable for their deeds. I've actually skipped a lot, so it might be interesting for you to just watch a youtube video explaining it. It's actually quite frightening because the final prophet prophesied things that would happen before the end and most have already happened.
jews MUST either BELIEVE IN HEAVEN or an AFTERLIFE . OR NOT PRACTICE ANY RELIGION AT ALL RITE ? i mean if there is NOTHING when you die . then what are you praying or worshipping FOR ?
The point of serving god isn’t to get into the afterlife, it’s to serve god in the real world, otherwise you’re not really doing it for god but for the afterlife
Lol so basically Judaism is incomplete....I guess God forgot to tell them if there is life after death. Wait a minute God does tell them in the New Testament ...too bad they don't believe in there own Messiah aka Jesus Christ who told us how to save our spirit. I see know difference in Atheism and current Judaism lol might as well not believe in God at all.
No one? Several people did. Lazarus had been dead for 4 days when Jesus brought him back to life. Jesus was dead for 3 days and 3 nights before resurrection
“No one’s ever returned to tell us how it is” you’re kidding! Do you know how many NDE’s there are with so many similarities all over the world? Despite differences in religion, language, culture, the similarities are shockingly clear!
You do realize that wasn't actually Samuel? God had forbidden any kind of spiritistic practices. God told them how to worship him, and God's chosen king disobeyed. In the Hebrew scriptures it makes clear that the dead are dead and conscious of nothing, because they have gone back to the Earth. This was a spirit pretending to be Samuel.

@Ace Bolick Holy crap. Thank you so much! You just gave me the term for what I am. Lol, "omnist" is a lot easier than trying to stammer out something about a higher power and seeing a value in all religions, like I was doing before when asked what my religious beliefs are.
@@Dark_Force_Of_Wishes How can you be Omnist when Jews believe worshiping Christ or Mohamed’s teachings are idolatry? Or Christians believe not believing Christ as a resurrected savior as sacrifice on behalf of sin owed to humanity for it’s transgressions is idolatry? Or the Islamic belief that the Jews and Christians have perverted the original law of Moses and are also idolators? How can they all be right while claiming, in detail, that every other religion is incorrect, punishable with eternal suffering? While i respect the “omnist” emotional plea to to try to embrace all cultures and philosophies, theyre essentially disregarding the dogmatic expectations that all religions have. Essentially they are picking and choosing their favorite moral agreements from each religion basically making up a new religion between person to person. I feel like the “omnist” faith is basically just agnosticism in the end. Iunno just find it really bizarre that “omnists” go all these weird hoops in identity to pretend they are something different from agnostics. I have yet to meet an “omnist” that opened and finished a Quran, Bible, Torah, the Tripitaka, etc. The title of “omnist” rather than “agnostic” is as novel, egotistical and improvised as their theology. I found it being like a dude with high-functioning autism pretending that because they have high functioning autism, they have something different from actual autism, when in reality both are the same learning spectrum disorder. Omnists are just agnostics that are interested in theology but often not interested enough to read the source materials
Problem is in the Muslim community there are also people that had that false death, meeting the prophet, and all that. But that is not resurrection, that is false death (like a cease in physiological function). So no one has ever been resurrected back to life (except at the time of prophets) to actually tell how it is afterlife
If you wanna know that truth of the afterlife then you need to read the Gospels of the Lord Yeshua. The Old Testament prophesied his first coming. Yeshua will return for the TRUE chosen people of Israel, the followers of Christ.
