@Zawisza Czarny “SO…?” Your experience doesn’t account for every single owner or potential owner of PS5. Considering Sony markets it primarily in vertical orientation, many people will be led to believe that it can only be vertical. At least until they learn from videos like this one or encounter it hands on. Not everyone reads manuals either. Place the console however you want. Just don’t expect people to be as informed as we are about something so trivial.
Get new animals, I recommend dogs because they can actually protect you and not break your stuff then look at you like it’s your fault, that’s what cats do 😂
I have mine laid down. Just easier to find a spot for it as it's taller than the gap under the TV. Plus I had nightmare visions of it getting knocked over stood up.
Ps5 designers want it to get knocked over so you have to get a new one. Trying to squeeze extra money out of consumers like this tells me there are problems at Sony… I think it’s the beginning of the end for PlayStation. I bet there will not be a ps6 because they’ll be out of business by then. Xbox is winning the race I think. We’ve all made a mistake investing in a ps5.
Bro the Liquid Metal is already melted 💀 the metal could get leaked when standing vertically and could damage other components but that was an issue in the older models of the ps5. Now it’s fixed.
@@tryzzz.From my understanding it's not even older models which causes the issue The liquid metal moving issues seem to stem from a improper job of resealing, like when opening and operating on the motherboard the metal plate has to be tighten enough so it can form some kind of seal once placed back upon it.
@@tryzzz.rather be safe the sorry who knows how old it ps5 is, what if a ps5 has been just sitting at a factory or in stock for awhile and is one of the “older ones” and then you buy it and then months later it leaks
Mine is like that too. I read about the thermal paste running and heard it was safer to leave flat. Fits on my tv stand perfectly on its side as the tv takes up the full length of the tv stand so mine has to be on its side. Feels like the right way to me.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Our lord and savior Jesus Christ loves all of us so much that he died a terrible death and then rose again so we could know him and live.
Not only can it it be used horizontally, but it's actually the preferred orientation for all PS5 models including the latest Slim. There's a ton of reasons for this but mainly because the PS5's APU gets extremely hot and as a result, Sony used liquid metal instead of typical thermal paste between the APU and the cooler. When the PS5 is placed vertically, the liquid metal will pool at the bottom of the APU as it gets hot, which is inevitable, and the liquid metal becomes more viscous and drips down and then the sponge like material around the APU designed to prevent the liquid metal from dripping on other components and shorting something out, which is good, but without a doubt, the top of the APU will develop a dry spot, where the liquid metal is all pooled up on the bottom, being held by the sponge like material. When this happens, if the unit is still used without reapplying Liquid Metal, the top of the APU with the dry spot or drastically reduced amount of liquid metal at the top can start to oxidize, resulting in even worse thermal conductivity and this is the point where the PS5 will either be virtually unusable due to it constantly shutting down from overheating, or it may die completely. If you're running your PS5 (any model) vertically, and it's been that way for a significant amount of time and it has a good amount of play time. I highly suggest either you or someone equipped to do so, take it apart, clean it out, and clean up the pooled Liquid Metal on the APU, remove any oxidation (if applicable) and reapply the liquid metal and cooler. Then, run your PS5 in the horizontal orientation to avoid any future problems. Many people argue against this because on PC's, the CPU is always vertical and people dont have nearly as many problems with that. And that's can be for a few reasons. Mainly though, PC's usually have more adequate cooling solutions, due to the larger enclosures and more capable cooling solutions. First off, typically the only people that use liquid metal on PC's are enthusiasts and very knowledgeable regarding computers, tech, and so on, so they will be much more privy to avoiding, catching, and/or fixing these sort of things. On the other hand, consoles are used by the masses from small children, teens, to even some folks pushing 50 or above and their knowledge in regards to tech and the like vary even more than their age. As a result, consoles are typically used in environments and ways that are not ideal, like in vertical orientation and/or stuffed in a cabinet with little to no ventilation or cooling, or used on a rug or placed anwyhere possibe often being heat soaked by over devices, or in a dusty corner, in the sun, and rarely ever maintained. Conversely, PC enthusiasts will also typically use a custom water loop or some good cooling solution. Moreover, PC's CPU's don't tend to get quite as hot as the APU in the PS5 as PC's will most often have a dedicated GPU, and the modern chips are also more efficient. Moreover, the other main reason is it;s much more common and easy to dissassemble a PC to check the thermal compound or liquid metal and reapply. So usually people with liquid metal thermal compound on their CPU end up taking apart their system to check/reapply much more frequently so the issue never get's a chance to cause a real problem. Lastly, PC's have monitoring systems that are much more accessible to the user, so if any over heating does occur, the user will be aware of it right away and likely will investigate the potential cause.
@@ex0stasis72 Liquid metal can run, and gravity is a thing. While Sony did put a sponge like barrier around the liquid metal, I lost a delidded 4790K to liquid metal run after about 2 years.
Whenever i hear people complain about why i chose to lay my consoles horizontally and not vertically my answer is always the same and that's because it's safer horizontally because there's no chance of it getting knocked over and breaking thus being out nearly $600.
I used to place my ps5 vertically, but changed it to the horizontal position. I noticed that a lot of heat also comes out of the tiny vents, which would be located on the bottom of the ps5, if you would place it vertically. Now by placing it horizontally, the air escapes much better out those tiny vents as well, making it run just a bit cooler.
I started getting random crashes, i left it over night then layed it on the side. It stopped crashing and seems to nut run the fan as hard🤔. Liquid metal fall down from gravity and heat. Bumping it while hot can knock away the LM
@@sethogelvie3531Its happened to unopened console’s, I believe the only way the liquid metal leaks is because the clamps to the APU and heatsink weren’t tight enough.
@@sethogelvie3531 Liquid metal doesn’t move when compressed properly😂 the pc community has been using liquid metal for years with pc’s and those pc’s spend their life standing up. Using liquid metal for gaming isn’t a new concept.
I've had my ps5 for about a yr now. Originally started with the vertical position. After about 3 months in, I started getting the disc drive issue where the disc gets stuck and won't eject. Looked all over for a fix and finally came to one that said laying it horizontal could fix it. Ever since I laid it on it's side, it fixed the issue.
I had mine since launch standing vertically until it started randomly shutting off during gameplay of ps5 games. Turns out it was because the liquid metal coolant wasn’t covering it correctly so I got it fixed and now only keep it horizontal.
You know just reading your comment about the PS5 shutting off and it did this to me during a game of F1 2021 during a heated lab I was pissed ..but then it will come. back on and then I have to figure out how bad I fell back in the laps smh...thinking this is just a power glitch ...never thought about the liquid metal in the console
Yeah that's what I thought when I unboxed and saw the open end when standing vertical. I thought about how much dust will fall inside. At least horizontal it's somewhat better protected with a roof!
30% of your tv? Man's got a PS5 on a 32 inch tv 😂 it'd be like less then 5% of my tv if it was in front of my tv but I got it's own table next to the tv for it
Plus some people are finding out that standing the PS5 up is a bad thing right now. When it gets to hot the cooling gel that's on the CPU ends up dripping all over your board.
It was so bad at one point all I could play was P4 games 😂 anytime I tried loading up a P5 game, it overheated immediately. I’d say I had at least 15 mins minimum, some times, to play the game before it heated up.
@@Dakingalbert2shut up and stop spreading nonsense, myself and many others have the ps5 vertically positioned since we bought and we re doing just fine, tell your friend to get his ps5 to warranty because getting super hot is not normal
Every console I've ever owned has been horizontal, standing up never looked right, and after the PS2 showing issues with disk reading errors it made it so I never will put it vertically.
And before anyone says it yes I know technology has moved forward and that's not really an issue anymore, but I still don't trust it kind of like even after the game autosaves I still manually save twice just to make sure.
I know it can... But I do agree with others, in terms of looks, it looks weird man. The PS5 clearly was designed to stand vertically, is like people who use the first version Nintendo Wii horizontally while they have that beautiful stand.
@@boxiii Yeah the PS5 is really big doesn't matter how you put it... The PS5 vertical makes sesne to put beisdes your TV not underneath because most of the time it will block it unless your TV is mounted wayyy up on the wall.
@@strohhuttv8848 yea that’s true. I’ve actually never been a big fan of the shape and form factor. I prefer a more box like shape for this exact reason.
Placing it on its side makes the cooling better. Heat moves up. The intake fan is front left and the exhaust is back right(front facing you). If its vertical. The hot air from the lower fan seeps upwards and makes it super hot. If its horizontal. The air intake/exhaust flow better. If you place a fan pointing from the intake side the system stays nice and cool. No hot wires of casing
I don't know why I got so mad with this video. I was so sure that everyone knew this that I thought this video was simply showing something that happens when you lay it on the side for a long time
I do this on my slim because it reduces heat as actually at the bottom there is a place for air also horizontally will stop reducing thermal paste so it will stay longer
Obviously you didn't read the instructions cause the average age of gamers is 33-35. So the child is the one who didn't read the instructions here and just decided to bash someone without having knowledge of what is transpiring. Sound Familiar??? Did you even think about your comment before posting? Guess some things you can't get from an instruction manual. Who's gonna know more about it... someone who's been playing for 20-30 years, or someone who's been playing less than ten?🤦🤦I swear people just do this to amuse themselves.
I won't lie, I did not know about it laying down on the pedestal. I had it laying down without it. I just went out in my living room and found it and now it's sideways the proper way. I thank you.
@@LitVrosit definitely is true you dummy. Mine having this exact issue after only owning for 1.5 yrs.. Standing vertically kills these things eventually.
Now place it upside down (horizontally), It's crazy how often you come across someone placing a PS5 on the Wrong side in the background on Now gaming channels.
@@JackAttack301yes the Liquid Metal used to cool down the cpu can become runny during intensive games running and if vertical can drip down your motherboard and cause damage
I have my PS5 vertical and have since I got it last July 2021 and I've never had an issue with it. It works 100% perfect for me. Some prefer it on its side and some prefer vertical. I prefer vertical.
@@NoMoneyAfterTipping I fully respect that. I prefer vertical though like I said. I also do that because I don't want to put it in a place where there's not enough breathing room for it. So for me vertical works. But I'm happy horizontal works for you. At least the PS5 can be either direction where the Series X looks weird if you lay it down on the side. Lol
@@NoMoneyAfterTipping a rat trap? MAHAHAH. That's a pretty big burn lol. But I'm happy you like both though. You seem like a really cool guy. At least we respect one another and can share opinions without our consoles and the way they sit and be cool with each other. Don't see that too often. 👊😎
I have mine horizontally, I've seen some videos with the gallium oxidizing on one end of the apu, I just assume its because the ps5 was sitting vertically and overtime gravity causes the gallium to set on one side while the other side oxidizes and loses the ability to transfer heat efficiently.
You can put it on its side. I personally wouldn't recommend it in florida. Simply because it distributes heat a little bit better when it's standing up. But if you've got good air conditioning and ventilation in your room, it's fine either way.
the PS5 is also literally designed for it to be set on its side considering the buttons and port placements, it’s very obvious sony intended it to be on its side given the design of the console itself
