"The Age of Deception", while not only carrying biblical context, is also increasingly accurate to modern social media.
A combination of decreasing institutional trust, social media driven monetized disinformation, and generative AI tools are laying the foundation for nothing we see to be credibly believed, without some sort of third party authority to verify it. This would, subsequently, require institutional trust... since an authority of some kind, is then required to verify what is real. A paradox of modern deception, and a perfectly set stage for the new Age of Deception.

10:14 "A Scanner Darkly" Deep fakes, maybe another area that wasn't considered, the same AI can also be used to target individuals filtering there space online and isolating them in total disinfo campaign. Warfare, It may be hard for agencies to take on a task like that but the ability taken on with the aid of Supercomputing and weaponized AI, the prospect is frightening. Yesterday as I was about to puke from Diabetes my tv quickly pulled up an ad for nausea meds I was taking even though I said nothing about it out loud. First time I have ever seen that Ad these types of coincidences are becoming far to routine.

Yep. It's called the "liar's dividend." The ability for a guilty person to rely on lack of trust in a medium of evidence to just say "it's fake" without any proof, and not be disproven. And yeah, in today's world, video evidence alone shouldn't be proof imo... AI is far too advanced for that. The real issue with AI is that it sorta makes the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing fall apart, because anyone can make "evidence" against you, and then you're the one who has to prove your innocence rather than them proving their evidence is real.

2024 is going to be a fustercluck. The only silver lining might be normies finally waking up to how concerning AI is becoming. Most are in denial about how fast it has advanced. That's assuming we can even tell what's a deep fake. Worst case scenario, the media canonizes a deep fake event without anyone being able to disprove it, so people will just roll with it. The media has already canonized events that never happened without AI. All the "very fine people" hoax took was cutting out the part where Trump said "except the neo-Nazis, they should be condemned totally." The media could definitely get away with a deep fake and that scares me.

@Mythhammer
@Mythhammer 10 месяцев назад
Dead in what sense? Anyone who has been paying attention knows that you can't trust what you see/read/hear. Thats why critical thinking is so vital. Always ask these three questions. Who benefits?(follow the money). What is their agenda? What is their track record?
@Reddotzebra
@Reddotzebra 10 месяцев назад
@@Mythhammer Well for the first one, with news it's sometimes very easy to see who benefits but because a lot of these things affect so many people in so many positions it's more a question of who has enough pull to cause the message to shift. A politician might benefit by being painted in a good light but in today's world they generally prefer to benefit by seeing their opponents hanged in writing. Neither of these translate into direct monetary rewards going either way, just the media owned by another person who shares the politicians ideology being allowed to stick around for another news cycle and the wider supporters of the politician getting more ammunition to throw at his enemies. And that's only talking about mainstream news, the only way to see who benefits when it comes to unverified news sources is to look at the wider picture of where the story originates, in those cases it's much more important to focus on agenda and track record. The internet actually has a great advantage in this way, since people figured out a long time ago that media that was just allowed to sit around had the potential to change, so there now exists exhaustive archives of everything having been said.
@lemax6865
@lemax6865 10 месяцев назад
@@Mythhammer In a nutshell, Dead Internet theory is the idea that at some point, the overwhelming majority of internet traffic could be algorithms talking to algorithms, nothing but automated traffic going back and forth for various purposes with little to no human involvement, producing little to no value (or even taking value). Furthermore, it is the idea that we may already have reached over 50% bots (I don't remember whether that's been confirmed).

my take on the dead internet theory is its a heads up to what they are doing ,the they have to tell you and therefore you consent to it. The problem is that because theyre hiding it in plain sight with misleading and dishonest disemination its not agreed to. Thats why i hate the phrase ignorance of the law is not an excuse thats their get out of lying to you about what theyre doing seeing as legalese is a dishonest shadow language of English where every word means something completely different in common English. Compare a legal definition dictionary like blacks law dictionary to say the oxford English dictionary and you will soon understand what I am saying.How in any way shape or form can they say ignorance of the law is not an excuse when the very law is a foreign language pretending to be English where the words have a different meaning to them in English.And dont teach this to you at school.

It is the perfect storm for societal madness. I wrote something recently on this topic. What was surprising, is that 75% of people responded did not perceive this to be a concerning issue. So many do not perceive how bad this is going to get. Unverifiable reality is going to be an untenable existence. The fallacy is that most believe technology will fix the problems technology is creating. However, defensive AI for the purpose of determining truth is failing. OpenAI gave up on their efforts to create AI content detection tools. There seems to be no counter to this problem.

I called this period the time of delusion, followed by the "great denial" of the early to mid 2020s (that came with a pandemic, though I thought it would be the Avian Flu which is still coming BTW) and the "great fall" in the mid to late 2020s leading to WWIII and possible nuclear war by the early 2030s. Not sure how well I got the last part, but I think things are lining up and the leaders of the world are clearly more reluctant than most think to use nukes. Russia and China need to push the fact that the US is the only nation to use nukes against a civilian population to set up their BRICS economy, but if we keep pushing them there is no telling what they will do in the long run.

So I, personally, disagree with the current version of generative AI being the worst it is going to be. The issue that comes into play is that the rate at which humans can produce content is greatly outmatched by the rate at which AI can produce content. This makes it almost an inevitability that AI content is going to bloat the web as a whole, and eventually, a separate inflection point will occur where there is more AI content than human made content. At face value, this is bad news. But on the contrary, when it's bloated to that point, it begins training on its own products. It receives positive signals that its mistakes are correct as there is more training data that is based on its mistakes, essentially inbreeding these errors until it once again decays in quality. This has already been reported in the neural network Midjourney, which is primarily used for dark fantasy/dark surrealism (which was one of my favorite genres of art, so I have a vendetta against it, I'll attest to) as the genres of art were flooded with its works, replacing most human content there. Once you have an eye for it, you can tell when something is a work of midjourney vs a real human producing it. Styles get stale, seeing only one all the time makes it annoying, which means it has to improve and adapt, or else it gets stale. There is no freezing the weights and expecting the same usage forever, you can't escape needing to continue to train. The same will be the case with deep fakes, it will be an arms race of AI detection vs adaptive AI. This means it will, inevitably, have to continue to train, which means it will train on its own products, which means it will decay in quality. AI, as it exists now, and on the current path of its advancement, will eat its own tail until it devolves. You'll still have the less mentally prepared people falling for it, but it will not get to the point where nobody can tell the difference. There will always be some tool or some people who can detect it. It's incredibly valuable for everyone to train their discernment skills, though, regardless, so I deeply appreciate your work, despite my own rambling.

I’ve wondered about this, and have hoped it would be the case. But wouldn’t it be simple enough to engineer AI to water-mark its own production and avoid the decay? I mean I hope it’s not that easy. Truth be told I want it to burn itself out as quickly as possible so people can categorize it’s use-cases to as few as possibly necessary, but wouldn’t it be as easy as the engineers limiting (or targeting, shudder) the scope of AI learning to their specific selections on an ongoing basis?

@MDNQ-ud1ty 10 месяцев назад
What you are failing to take in to account is that the human is part of that feedback loop. You are also failing to understand that that "2nd" inflection will not exist because AI is not continually trained on it's own data. If what you say is true they will just use the best models and stop "training" it. You are wrong. Yes, you are right that if you continually trained AI on itself then errors would(not necessarily as one could mathematically quantify it and limit it) compound... but in practice people won't be so blind to continuing using something that is degrading in quality but it will work to fix it. Also, by then, the damage to humanity would be incalculable. You have a short naive few that takes something that is true and assume that it is necessarily true in practice. It isn't AI that drives AI, it is humans. All that ever need to be done is to convince the masses and that has now been achieved. AI will used by more psychopathic entities to do more evil for wealth and power extraction. It will work making these people extremely powerful and because they are psychopaths they will never stop doing evil and bringing more in to their fold. This only results in one outcome: A slave system and a diverges of classes. It is more akin to ancient Egypt and capitalism is driving it. Without fiat this could never have occurred. When robots comes online to be the virtual slave drivers then it will be a very few psychopaths turned in to gods. Basically very much like Ancient Egypt 2.0 but instead of rock and sand it will AI and Silicon. Good news is I'll be dead and I don't have and kids to make me worry about it. If people want to be dumb or slaves then that is their choice, I made the choice not to be that nor to have any offspring to be sucked in to that hell.

This is part of why i chose to just ignore all the media and drop social media. First reason was just the never ending drama, but also the deception, lies, and never ending misinformation was getting in the way of my living my life. I will focus on living my life, since I can read the writing on the wall. This stuff will only get worse and more sensationalized and extreme. I fully expect the fighting to worsen and that the average person won't even realize they were fed misinformation and further radicalized.
@troybaxter
@troybaxter 10 месяцев назад
I have done the same. I cut all mainstream media journalism (and most journalism in general) out of my life because I got tired of the constant drama and fighting. Whenever I see Fox or CNN on TVs when I go to the gym, I physically gag because I can't stand seeing or listening to what either one of those stations has to say. As such, I know nothing about the Israel-Palestine War other than that Israel is at war, nor do I know anything about the Ukrainian War. I just simply don't care because I can't stand the divisive rhetoric that we hear from journalists.
@AuthorHoshiChan
@AuthorHoshiChan 10 месяцев назад
@@troybaxter Allow me to preface this by the fact that I am no expert, I may be working under a misunderstanding of how things actually are. I have high functioning autism and so I struggle to comprehend certain things sometimes: divisive or not, it's not like anything we did could have any real impact on the war anyway. The USA is an oligarchy hidden by the illusion of a Democratic Republic that's by the people for the people. It hasn't been for the people since the day it was founded. Politicians don't care, but give the illusion of caring every time a tragedy happens. The only words on their lips are always: "hopes and prayers for the Victims and their families." They say this with less intent than a damn sloth. No one has any power without money. History cycles and repeats itself every time, and only changes its cause. Slavery became wage slavery, discrimination changes from one group to next. Politics and social justice issues are nothing but a blame game to distract us from making real progress. It's all the same thing with a different name and subtle changes. It's disgusting. Life is too short to spend every goddamned day worrying about all this pointless shit. That's the main reason I chose to ignore it and live my life my way. In my eyes, we are all human. The color of our skin comes down to melonin content and sun exposure through from generation to generation. Religion and philosophy are one and the same, one just focuses on controlling the people while the other seeks meaning to the world around us. Idc if your LGBTQ+ or not, who cares if your a furry or not, literally nothing could make me hate someone without that person simply being an outright jackass. None of it matters 500+ years into the future anyways, so why should it matter now? Live your life your way, be inspired, be you, because there is nothing better than being genuine. As long as what you love to do or what you see yourself as doesn't break any laws or disrupt others way of life, I have no problem with 'you'. Anyway, pardon the tangent, have a good day and hope you found something to take your eyes off the news with. For me it was music and books.

Kinda reminds me of BLM and MeToo. So many times those two organizations lied about what happened and tried to claim that it was okay because it was a means to an end. Both organizations undercut the necessary changes that we have to make, like improving law enforcement so it is less corrupt.

Deception is fascinating. It's a bit of an evolutionary edge. Think of all the cases of deception in nature, the bug that looks like a stick, the angler fish, octopus. Not just for predator and prey but mating. Its everywhere, and its all based on the perceptions of others. The predator puts pressure on the prey to where the prey that hides/decieves wins. But what humans are doing w deception is preying on their own kind for selfish benefit. Seems to me this is basically the cannibalism of a species. If it gets that far. Who survives in the long run? Those who get the fk out of the way and self preserve while the world is distracted by greed power and ignorance. Technology, you know that thing that the world is totally dependant on for every basic survival need, is extremely fragile, and nature gives zero shts about it.

I am an AI researcher and this is way more true/scary than people think it is. It’s well known in literature that GANs with a discriminator theoretically will fool the discriminator at 50%, which means any AI generated image will be detected as fake correctly 50% of the time. The reason for this is that there are only so many ways to generate pixels for an image. What’s the difference between a picture of red and red? NONE so the probability of it being fake is 50% as in no better than a coin toss. People need to realize this fact and once GANs reach this point you will no longer be able to trust any image you see online…

AI is exacerbating the issue, but you don't even need anything fake in order to lie. The tools for deception may be changing, but I do not see it being any more less prevalent than it was previously. The predominant technology of any time period has been used maliciously throughout human history. The arguments in this video could be applied to every emerging technology. People tend to overlook one important factor that got us to where we are today; humans ability to adapt and overcome new and complex challenges. That's not to say Ai will not cause any societal strife, that would be foolish. I simply don't understand what alternatives or solutions people are expecting. Ai is here, it's not going anywhere. The best thing we can do is: A.) Not allow it to be souly controlled by corporations and governments. B.) Work on ways to adapt to the societal challenges that we will be presented with, while respecting our rights. I certainly wouldn't want authoritarian solutions.

As ever, UE, you are totally and completely correct. Ever since I watched the Trey Parker/Matt Stone videos which feature a PERFECT Trump lookalike posing as a reporter for a tiny news station (all high comedy) I knew we were heading toward some strange Brave New World. Again, the line from the original Max Headroom: 20 Minutes Into The Future film from (IIRC) 1985, always comes to my mind. I believe I may have quoted it in one of your earlier vids on this subject, but it's still strong. Using the memories from a (presumed dead) reporter, a computer whizz-kid (not said that in a long time) manages to create a realistic AI version of said reporter. He's slick, great sense of humour, but has little glitches. Two hired criminals take the computer to avoid it being used by anyone. But upon seeing the results, one muses something like: "A very interesting potential - imagine, all your politicians kept in little boxes. You might care to call this device The Phoenix". This was 1985. In the UK, "Max Headroom" had his own show, presenting music videos (that's where I first saw/heard "Sensoria" by Cabaret Voltaire. I have a couple of albums by them, but can only play them when my wife's not around. She can't stand Cab!) But here we are almost FORTY YEARS on, and as you demonstrate, that very technology is here. Now. We've been through the "Fake News" nonsense that lasted a few years, but now, to quote "The Book" in the wonderful and sadly missed Douglas Adams "Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy": "In an infinite universe, anything... is possible." Whatever starts on the Internet eventually bleeds into mainstream media, and we ARE heading into "The AIge Of Deception". I hope, just like after The Manhattan Project in the 1940s, we are able to survive it, and not lose ourselves in the process. Thanks for another great video UE, you are a warning beacon in the wilderness of mirrors. All the best from a little island in Northern Europe ❤

How can I definitively say what I am being shown isn't fabricated bs to throw an innocent man in jail, or get a guilty man back on the streets? We can't, and that's the scary part. Or, even worse. What happens if someone deep fakes the President about declaring war on another country... Millions dead because of an easily created lie.

I assure you, any artist worth their salt wouldn't touch AI as it is in current state, meaning a plagiarism tool. It is mostly used by those that need something "good enough" and don't want to pay an artist. The fact is, it will mostly be used by those that wish to scam others or those that don't care how this tech was provided to them as long as they get what they want.

There are some legitimate uses for real artists, like as a form of creative brainstorming or reference image generation. But I expect we’ll see an explosion of frauds trying to pass off the work of AI as their own.

A problem on the Internet can be as complex as the human imagination allows it to be. Truely a scary thing.

As if what the human species can see and hear makes up any significant portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that makes our reality. A reality itself decoded by an electrical computer we call a brain. Sometimes, you have to wonder if our species was nerfed on purpose to make us hyper curious for some unknown purpose. I could certainly make a good case for being nerfed on safety concerns. People should use their imaginations more because the lack of it is certainly turning into the "go to" scapegoat.

Not only that, the anime in particular is a television series aired during the early days of the internet that transcends everything we know about it today because ironically, even the artist behind that masterful work later succumbed to internet radicalisation himself.

It is Biblical, and anyone who STILL doesn't believe we were out here by an Intelligent Design is delusional at this point. If you don't believe in God, still... Try praying to Him.

Which side of the political divide is more likely to engage in using A.I. deepfake tech? 1: Those who are more likely to create and or have access to bleeding edge tech. 2: Those who control the government. 3: Those who are more likely to have access to, or control friendly mainstream media outlets. 4: Those who are more likely to hold a "by any means necessary" moral philosophy.

Trust is faith is belief is assumption. We have to limit unnecessary assumptions in a world of abundant, necessary, cartesian, ontological assumptions. We have to learn to think about information within a mental schema of inter-referential probabilistic understanding. Information influences other information's probability of being true within the schema. We start with fundamental, necessary assumptions and work further outwards into perceived reality. We have to look for gradated patterns of logical conformity and their inversions within the schema. It's really a matter of epistemology, ontology and psychology. What we can know, what we can be and how our mental systems interact with knowledge (understanding) and being. We must assess and accept our limitations and the limitations of knowledge. In addition to this we must study systems of information and power, including but not limited to political groups, intel agencies, secret societies, social cliques, governments, corporations, academia, religions, NGOs, intergovernmental orgs, plutocracies, aristocracies, nations and people-groups.

What this does is it can take a real picture & mistake it to be fake with fake attributes in the real picture. For example. Person A can upload a real picture. Then person B can upload the same picture with some AI adjustments to the real picture, but still be close enough. Then person C can use an AI detection program on that image & deem it fake. The point of no return is when absolutly nothing on the internet can be trusted with the only hope of potentially finding truth is seeing it with our own eyes, which can be fooled. Technology has progressed so much that we have begun to regress.

I have limited time and money to give to researching credibility of news sources, so I'm done with it all, way more important and yet simpler priorities in my life to focus on. Only time I'll randomly check something is if someone talks about something and I'd like a little context. The one thing I won't forget from my time doing IT studies last. Is when the lecturer said, the problem with the AI isn't the AI, from self-driving cars to all this coercive and deceptive manipulation online in general; no, it's the people.
