The Aggie Bonfire Memorial embodies many layers of meaning associated with the Aggie
Spirit-a deep sense of belonging, a strong spirit of teamwork and leadership and an
enduring sense of tradition that unites thousands. The Bonfire Memorial celebrates
the tradition, history and spirit of Texas A&M, and the dedication of those involved in
the tragic collapse of the 1999 Bonfire.

I had the privilege of walking this beautiful memorial. As an Aggie mother X 2 and my son being in The Corps of Cadets it was an honor to read each and everyone’s memorial.

I was honored to light a candle and reply "Here" for Bryan Allan McClain at the San Antonio Muster in 2000. As a fellow Aggie and a fellow San Antonian, it was something I felt I had to do. We will never forget.

"The 12th Man" has special meaning when it comes to the bonfire tragedy in 1999. It was the mark of an end of a century and millennium. For it was the 12th man who directed the rescuers where the other victims were trapped in the pile. He could tell where they were because he was in the pile himself. His body was the last one to be pulled out of the pile because of his efforts to help save the others.

Being an out of stater from North Carolina and a former cadet, Timothy Kerlee Jr's story was always the most inspiring to me. He embodied everything in what it means to be a cadet, and every single word of the verse inscribed on the Memorial Student Center. If you've never been to the memorial, I suggest you do so. It is absolutely beautiful, and it's hard to find a place that can bring you to an absolute sense of peace like the memorial can.

The memorial that sits on campus is beautiful though I wish it wasn't there. I wish the victims would have survived and lived their lives fully.

I worked across the street at the 707 center... The sound of the logs snapping and watch it fall down.. Sound of snapping twigs brings this back up and still get chills..

I remember driving around the block where the Aggie Bonfire was being built. I said out loud to myself "You couldn't get me to climb up there. A lot of students are going to die because of that one day." Class of 1976.
