A.I. art having a place in games I'd say depends on the game in question. I think it fits right in with Bonelab's setting due to it being a physics sim, imitating reality, but not quite there, like an Uncanny Valley effect. Much like how A.I. art is currently really good at imitation real artwork, but doesn't quite get some aspects right, like human hands.
Curiously despite claiming most of this art didn't make the cut; I found almost ALL of the art in the game... Look for posters, billboards, plastered across the rooftops, etc. They're all over the place.
I think the a.i art fits right in within the game’s universe. Because the game is inside a simulation and it’s in character for monogon to put a.i generated portraits in mythos
this is my main fear about ai art, that 2d artists will be out of a job for creating cool in universe ads and posters to the detriment of mood and immersion. its not really that bad here its unsettling in a place where thats expected but overall im more worried by the precedent. imagine if all the re2 ads had been ai art.
Never realized that it was ai art but I do like that it is. do you know if the art for the information slabs(big thick stone things with information on them about avatars or controllers and whatnot) was ai generated; I really liked em.
I actually think this is really cool! I feel like it shows that instead of going against ai art we can use it as a tool and work together with artists to use both ai art and real art!
my first thought when i saw those was "that's definitely ai generated" i had used ai art generators before and the style becomes recognizable the more you use it, even though it can imitate any other art style. its strange
This feels scummy. Instead of making shit posters for your game set in the future, why not hire actual artists who have spent their lives perfecting their skills? I thought bonelab was about embracing creativity, not replacing it. Patch 4 may be good. But this is the worst possible decision they could've done. And don't come at me with the "It fits in the lore" bs, if we're in the future, dont you think the ai monogon would use to make the art would be so much more advanced than the one we have now??? They absolutely need to change this.
In the final level home in the house right before the big door upstairs is a room with a poster with a man from the medieval times with a medieval vr headset that was made using ai
AI art used in games would depend on the game and what its about. If its a world with no computers then no. It'll make the game feel cheap. If its a world where AI is HEAVILY to make everyday life "easier" like some distant future setting, than maybe. Would also depend on the world story telling and how its used as well. For the most part, I'm pretty against AI art with how its currently being used and the direction its going. Until people stop trying to be lazy thieves with it, I don't want to see it in anything.
“A memory that never was” was a great choice of music for a video like this also a few of the maid posters you showcased are used on the rooftops level and I think the super burger is used once or twice in street puncher but I might be wrong about that
How in the world do you 100% the game? I can't figure out anything on what to do because even after doing every single level on the hardest difficulty, a category still won't be completed.
Huh, I never looked at them closely to tell. It was was literally a one off thought in my head that came and went. AI art like that is what we would probably see if we could see into people's dreams.
I get the argument that AI art fits the lore of BONELAB, but also, SLZ probably has enough funding to hire *actual artists*!! I can get smaller indie devs using AI art, but for SLZ, I personally think it's inexcusable. Also, if their team uses AI art, it sets a bad example as other companies might try the same thing.
