I know this never happened in real life but imagine Travis hearing about the legendary bear hunter, soldier, scout, etc then he busts out a fiddle and goes to town on that😂
The song may be an anachronism to this movie but I want to know one historical or based-on-a-true-story movie that doesn't have anachronisms in it. Because every single one that I've seen does.
Not only was the original version of this song not written until almost twenty years after the Alamo fell, this "quick step" version of it would have been even later. This is a nice rendition of it, but it's a glaring anachronism for the time portrayed in the movie. It'd be like a musician in a movie set in 1936 playing a Beatles song.
Any fan of classic bluegrass knows this is almost note for note the version made famous by the Flatt and Scruggs Foggy Mountain Boys in the 1940s and '50s, bird calls and all. This "quick step" breakdown with the bird calls was one of their signature songs for years in live shows and on radio and TV. Davy had apparently been listening to the Grand Ol' Opry on the radio and was a fan of Lester and Earl. Let 'er goooo, boys! 😄
Yes, but the original 1855 version was about someone dying and a mockingbird singing over her grave, so it was a slow, sad song. This version is pure mid 20th century Flatt and Scruggs on the Grand Ol' Opry, right down to the bird calls.
