As a young man growing up in foster homes, I wasn't surrounded by many people who looked at themselves and their relation to their fellow man...I always questioned who I was and where I fit in the world. Music was my escape from the sometimes. horrors of life...I found in the A.P.P musical catalog, another way to interpret what was going on around me. Some of the words in the songs really struck a cord with me...I saw that others questioned the world around them as I did...I am forever grateful to the people who gave me the music, and gave me the opportunity to know that I wasn't alone in the world...

I was moved from a group home in a smaller city to be closer to family to another group home in a metropolis. They had a stereo with a decent turntable. That's when I got into this good stuff. Ran away from the place when I was 16, stayed on the run for 2 years until I turned 18. Also went through the foster homes and detention centers. Music is a sure way of escaping when you can't actually go places and feel free..."

Being young in the 80's was a great time, no social media crap, great music on the radio, and not to mention no mobile phones. It was a great time to be alive. The kids today don't know what they have missed. These are crazy times. Stay Safe everyone...

You are so right! Wish back the 70-80th..best times, and the music was great and timeless! Todays music content 80% crap! I don´t listen much! I play one of my 800 Lp`s everyday! Iḿ a big Parsons Fan, got all records! Sadly this kind of music don´t exists anymore! Also the fucking world today is absolutely crazy and more dangerous! with some fucking Idiots like Putin! I think there are very bad times ahead! Take care, and stay safe!

Your absolutely moronic comment is the disgusting epitome of "ok boomer". Even from the perspective of a 43 year old, you just sound like a hateful, cynical old piece of fucking shit whose worthless existence only serves to hold everyone else down until you're mercifully gone. Fuck you and everyone like you.
@Pete-eb3vo
@Pete-eb3vo Год назад
@@sharky9493 Putin ain't the only problem to your world buddy. Where the hell where you when Obama destroyed Libya and killed at least tens of thousands of people? Loads of people were slaughtered during the Ukraine takeover of 2014 as well and the country turned into a even bigger nanny state than it already was, don't act like they're bunch of angels! If you're going to constantly whine about how they don't make music and culture in general like they used to anymore, then maybe hold some goddamn accountability to the governments of America, Canada, Europe and Australia as well who put in the money for their degenerate "entertainment" to be produced in the first place! If you're looking up to leaders like Justin Castro from Canada and all the others like him and their version of "taking care" and staying safe" (which translated to freezing the bank accounts of those who didn't comply with his tyranny), then no wonder why this world falls apart so goddamn easily! Look at what the U.N and those who funded it have done, and maybe then we will get somewhere better.

I am 70 and i remember back in the the day how special AP were. Hours spent listening to the tales their music wove. Listening to this got me to thinking back then it was common to listen to the entire album. No so any more. My, my what we have lost. All the people who talk about the 80’s and how magical they were. If any thing it is understated. The music in so many ways became a part of you and to some of us is still there!!

The Alan Parsons Project -- -The Turn of a Friendly Card---The Turn of a Friendly Card is the fifth studio album by the British progressive rock band The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1980 by Arista Records. The title piece, which appears on side 2 of the LP, is a 16-minute suite broken up into five tracks. The Turn of a Friendly Card spawned the hits "Games People Play" and "Time", the latter of which was Eric Woolfson's first lead vocal appearance. An edited version of the title piece combining the opening and ending parts of the suite was also released as a single along with an official video. As with the band's previous albums, The Turn of a Friendly Card is a concept album with its theme focused on the gambling industry and the fate of gamblers, with more than one reference to Las Vegas (e.g. "there's a sign in the desert that lies to west" from the title piece). Musically it's a more melodic and accessible album than its predecessors. Up to this album, all Alan Parsons Project albums had been packaged in gatefold sleeves. Increasing budgetary constraints of record companies made The Turn of a Friendly Card the beginning of all subsequently released Alan Parsons Project albums to be single-sleeve packaged. The album was recorded in a record short time of two weeks in Paris. Usually the Alan Parsons Project would take many months to record an album Track listing All songs written and composed by Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson. Side one No. Title Lead vocals Length 1. "May Be a Price to Pay" Elmer Gantry 4:58 2. "Games People Play" Lenny Zakatek 4:22 3. "Time" Eric Woolfson 5:04 4. "I Don't Wanna Go Home" Lenny Zakatek 5:03 Side two No. Title Lead vocals Length 1. The Turn of a Friendly Card, Pt. 2 (3:22)" Chris Rainbow (i, ii, v), Eric Woolfson (iv), none (iii) 16:24 Though numbered as a single work, "The Turn of a Friendly Card" is split into five tracks on most compact disc and all digital and streaming releases. - - - - - - - - -- Personnel- - Stuart Elliott - drums, percussion David Paton - bass guitar Ian Bairnson - electric, acoustic and classical guitars; pedal steel guitar on "Time" Eric Woolfson - keyboards, piano, harpsichord, lead vocals Alan Parsons - Projectron on "Games People Play", whistling and finger snaps on "The Gold Bug", Clavinet on "The Gold Bug" and "The Ace of Swords", harpsichord on "The Ace of Swords", additional vocals on "Time" Chris Rainbow - lead and backing vocals Elmer Gantry (Dave Terry) - lead vocal Lenny Zakatek - lead and backing vocals The Philharmonia Orchestra, arranged and conducted by Andrew Powell

I bought this album on cassette in Italy in 1981 whilst on holiday from the UK during the week that Diana married Charles. I had a very nice Technics sound system and played the cassette as one of my top five. I had a Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6l soon afterwards and fitted an aftermarket sound system (as was the done thing in those days). I had a Sony XM1000 (1,000 watt) amp for the rear shelf (7 speakers) and for the front a Nakamichi PA400 amp (2 x 70 watts). Playing this album in the car was like sitting in the middle of the band/orchestra - absolutely amazing sound quality, and fantastic bass. I still have the two amplifiers in my shed somewhere! I don’t know where the cassette disappeared to - probably a casualty of the digital age! Tonight is the first time I have listened to the entire album since the 80s and I remember every single note - it takes me right back!! I now drive a Peugeot 208 GTI - maybe I should dig out my amps and see if they still work!! It’s amazing that I’m not deaf as I did crank my music up to 11 when required!

I heard Time a lot on the radio as a young child, then I didn't hear it for a long time. I heard it in the Spring of 2020 when my fiance and I shopped at the local grocery store in Chicago and it played on the store speakers. The Covid lockdowns had just started and I wasn't even sure what would come next as far as people being separated by the government orders. I stared at cans of tomatoes as "who knows when we will meet again" was sang. We got married later that year, we have a 2 year old boy and still live near the store. The memory although recent is etched into my fading memory of the contemporary days.

I went to Ireland to meet My German Friend with 4 of His other German College student friends in September of 1979. We met at the train station in Cork. The goal was to climb the highest mountain in Ireland. They all begged me to come with them to return to Germany. So much that I could articulate about that turn of my adventure. But this is where I heard this music. My last night in Germany at the dormitory of one of the 5 who were in Ireland now in the city of AAchen, My next days departure station to be on my way back to England and onward to Scotland and Fly Back To America. There was a Slide Show of climbing by those Germans in Austria and this was one of the background APP Albums that just has never left me the same. Oh yeah, this trip as to Backpack and I never spent one night in a paid room that entire 60 day tour to Europe. I even was in a small town (ein Dorf) Picking Grapes and drinking the best House Wein while there in Germany where nobody spoke English. I love the APP.

Currently at my 20s and I can't thank life enough for blessing my ears that one September afternoon back in 2018 with "Games People Play" and this album, HELL, even Alans Parson as a hole, and i deeply regret not knowing about them sooner.

We hold closer to the values of melody, those of us who enjoy tuneful escapes.......be they Rock, Soul, or the meditational offerings of great instrumentals. Interesting to see the reactions of those ONLY locked into a world of Rap narratives. Strange to see their facial expressions when they hear sounds that grace the air with melody. Melody, as well as powerful lyricism, was ALWAYS what fueled the productivity of Alan Parsons Project. I salute YOU......musical comrades, as your quest for catchy riffs and memorable sounds finds you HERE. Been an A.P.P. follower from way back. Enjoy the adventure, folks. I know I ALWAYS have.

In that time probably everyone gives big valor to the things around, no cellphones, no social midias, just tv and radio to watch and hear music, flowers was not vulgar, poems was the way to show how people was in love with each other, sit over or front of a tree and watch the sunset or sunrise, that was to live really..

Suddenly, i am in the mobel home, out Junction Creek, in the Junction Creek trailer park. My girlfriend (who would be my wife, now my ex-wife) is coming in from Denver for a three day stay. It's mid winter, there is 240" base at Wolfcreek, and almost half that much at Purg'. The storm is full rage, wind and snow. No one is on the road and i am concerned about Laura crossing Wolfcreek Pass safety. I have this turned up loud enough that i can hear it while i chop wood for the stove to heat the moble home, my home. She gets cold easier than i do. This is home while attending Fort Lewis. Back then, i had my whole life before me, wow it has been different than i would have ever guessed. Sad, ...glad, ...mad, yes and all at the same time. That was 44 years ago and the music makes the memory feel as recent as this morning.

they definitely mapped out the territory and the "hangups" of spiritual awakening, coming to terms with the power structures of politics and world media, the philosophical isometric that most of us go through in existentialist crisis, the concept of "personal" versus external realities. In the last few weeks I've decided their catalogue is the required listening for anyone tuning into world events.
