They made this song at the height of disco in 1977 and actually made it acceptable to the “disco sucks” crowd like myself adding elements of soul, funk and rock to a disco beat! The Stones did the same thing with Miss You. And Pink Floyd with Run Like Hell, Grateful Dead with Shakedown Street, Steely Dan with Glamour Profession, Rod Stewart with a number of songs, including Do Ya Think I’m Sexy etc.

@midnightrambler7716
@midnightrambler7716 3 месяца назад
Well…it has musical notes and is a song…so I guess it has that in common. But other than that…nope. It hasn’t got any of the timing signatures or disco beat or anything else common to disco songs of the era. Try dancing to it. It’s a rock song. Also the album it is on “It’s Hard” came out in 1982. Disco had been dead for about 3 years by then. Why on earth would any band like the Who put out a disco song in 1982? That would be career suicide. Although their 40 years or so of “farewell tours” started around then. So maybe you’re on to something! 😂

You can tell he cut his teeth as a sound engineer (Abbey Road, Let It Be & Dark Side Of The Moon as three VERY notable credentials!) This song indeed has such a funk groove to it. HIGHLY recommend the 16+ minute suite: The Turn Of A Friendly Card - then you'll see how sonically beautiful and progressive The Project could get! Cheers!

Alan Parsons was producer and arranger on the Project albums, but he rarely played on the actual recordings. The music compisitions, lyrics and concepts came from his Project collaberator Eric Wolffson who composed most, if not all, of his works on a piano or keyboard. The days of real/analog only instrumentation and real analog tape. In the case of APP recordings done at Abbey Road Studios, London, England.

I remember clearly hearing APP the first time. I was in a record store in the 70's. In those days you could listen to songs off albums in the store, sort of try it before you buy it thing. The clerk recommended "The Raven" off of their "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" album (which I highly recommend an album review to). I was blown away and immediately bought the album, each song based off of a work by Edgar Allen Poe. Do your ears a favor and give it a listen boys. You'll thank me.

This is one of my two favorite albums by Alan Parsons, the other is Turn of a Friendly Card. You nailed it, their musicianship and production is flawless. Such a great sound. As others have mentioned, they created Concept Albums, which were intended to be listened to in one sitting. You just put the album on, sit back, and let them sonically take you to another plane. The mix, the sonic flow, from one song to the next, just enjoy it. And vinyl is the way to go! Thanks for the great music and the insightful dialog.
