The Aldgate Pump Epidemic = The story of a well & water pump, in Aldgate East London! Not only is this an extremely old & historical piece of London's history "it's also the symbolic start/marker point if the East End of London."
What makes this dark little story, all the more interesting = is an event that occurred during the mid 1870s (THE ALDGATE PUMP EPIDEMIC) = This once clear & much favoured water supply "in an age before indoor running water" = Became poisoned by of all things "the dead in the churchyard, that originally lay much nearer the well." This culminated in the deaths of several hundred people = & led to the eventual relocation of the pump!!
Join me on the 29th March, from Aldgate = where we delve into the dark history & story of The Aldgate Pump Epidemic + visit the churchyard in Aldgate "which started the problem." Then go to East London Cemetery = to the mass grave "where those remains were moved to in 1990."
