Another WWII historical novel, but is this one really any better then so many WWII historical novels before it?
Where else to find me?

I think most people stick with a certain genre because they wind up having a certain similarity to all other books in the same genre and setting. This one happend to be well written and, as you mentionned, kept you engaged. As far as romance: I think that gets injected into almost every book. But to be fair, times of war are times of heightened emotions and when emotions are heightened they all are heightened. And ALSO, I think the romance serves to soften the heaviness of topic, in general

My main thing with the book was that the world war one timeline was so much more interesting than the second world war timeline most of the time, so I often found myself impatiently waiting to get back to the first world war timeline.

I totally agree with you. I happen to love WWII novels but there are so many and they are not done very differently from one another. Except The Forest of Vanishing Stars. Loved that one.

This was a well-thought-out review and you articulated it well. I have not read this book but may pick it up from my library if I get some free time ( my TBR is insane at the moment ) 😅

Thank you for your review, interesting and useful!! I've just finished the book. Didn't expect much from it, was more interested in easy reading in English (listened and read). Same, I can't say it's something outstanding, but I'm under impression now. The plot is fascinating, and I enjoyed love lines. Have read and watched a lot about both wars while reading.

Thank you for your review. If you were going to recommend one world war I/world war II novel, which would it be?

Hi. I read this book and wow you have some great points. I did find this book was very hard to read in some parts.

Great review, I just finished and gave it a 3 star. I think your “killing an intruder” allegory is right on . I wouldn’t trust Finn

Same on the "sameyness." It's hard to find one that's different. I don't like romance to be in books if it isn't necessary. My novel purposely doesn't have romance as an element. Ick! LOL

Right? I just want to find a unique WWII historical fiction! And romance can be used well, but it shouldn't be thrust into every book, I agree!

It is apparent that the reviewer didn’t read this novel because this is set in World War l and not WW ll.

Lol, you clearly didn't watch my review. Eve's timeline is WWI, but Charlie's is post WWII. So the book is set equally during both of the wars.

Not really. The major events and story about female spies is set in WWI - specifically between 1915 and 1919. There is very little description about anything occurring in WWII - only what Charlie finds out about her cousin Rose. We read more about Charlie, her predicament and quest to find Rose which all take place in 1947 after WWII. And so it is not "your average WWII novel" as you state.@AnneWilliamson
