I'm an Interpreter for over 20 years and I have to say the expression shown and the way he moves is FANTASTIC. You do an Awesome interpretation of this song, Russell. You are my new hero. Thanks for sharing your gift with us. Semaj
Russell, I must say that after seeing "Ghosts Among Us" and meeting you, I told my ASL class that I would check out your videos, since I was the only one who hadn't seen them. You are absolutly amazing. I love your interpretations of the song and the others you do. I am so honored to be able to say that I have met you.
I love how you performed this song, I am in an Interpreting Program, and have decided that when I finish I want to Interpret music. I try to find all your videos to study and watch. You are totally AWESOME!!!!!!!
I really like how towards the end of the song you change your body movements and signing to reflect the fact that more voices chimed in on the refrain. It's amazing how you do that!!
I agree:) As a student in an ITP program, I love seeing Deaf people getting more parts in acting and in the media. And I love how Russell Harvard can show people that..."Deaf can do anything" just not hear:)
Cassandra-- Sometimes switching dominant hands helps convey two separate ideas (i.e. "truth be told I miss you" and then "truth be told I'm lying"). In this context, it works well :)
Like Jukebox below, I'm just discovering your videos - they're really enjoyable! Thanks for putting them online :) On a side note, it seems most of the signers I like here on RU-vid are in/around Texas... odd... LoL
Hi Insaneymaney, yes there are two signs in this song but they're interpreted in ASL and in a visual way. There is another sign for hell by the way. Yes, location in the stomach... boiling heat and furious were the signs I used for hell. Hope it helps.
HEY OMFG. this is an amazing video. I am HoH and dont tell many ppl they sign good but i watched all your videos and they're amazing you could get a record deal to sign with signmark a famous deaf rapper
I think its extremely fun to point out right now, that a d/Deaf person is helping other members of the d/Deaf community to understand this song better. ;) There are A LOT of sign videos I dislike because they are hearing people who honestly have very little knowledge of sign language and sign poorly. I don't mind hearing people signing videos if they can actually do it well. :P
Do you ever do live performances in Austin that have public access? Like, can I buy a ticket to see you or use my cousin's ACC ID to sneak on to the campus and see you when you perform?? I'd really love to see this in person!
It's possible. Seriously though check out his "sexyback" video. The last Uploader comment says "truly deaf at heart. I can hear but that doesn't make me not deaf" or something similar.
Interesting...all of his bios say he is Deaf and he went to the TSD school,.....where only Deaf children go. He probably has some hearing (many deaf people do) so he can hear some sounds or music but he refers to himself as Deaf because his language is ASL and he is a culturally Deaf person. I have known deaf adults who can use a telephone and still consider themselves culturally Deaf, and some deaf adults with no hearing whatsoever who have have never been a part of the deaf world.
