Look great to me, someone who doesn't game on any pc. I think this would work for me since I'm a senior who read email, uses Office 365, surfs the web, watches movies and listens to my music. 👍🏻
If they had one for about $200 with usb4 and 16GB of ram, it would be a done deal for me. But i definitely need that usb4. I could use a mini egpu that has PD charging.
I would love to see this in a setup replacing a smart TV/streaming device and how it would compare to say a Fire TV Stick MAX or Apple TV. This is getting really close to the prices of the beefiest set top boxes. If this can be done with some remote accessory, it could be a great alternative to those devices finding new fun ways to flood my TV with ads.
That's exactly what I did with a similar N100 powered stick. Works great on Windows 11 with the Jellyfin Media Player. I bought a $15 remote from Newegg which works well.
intel for a long time ia not good for games on such mini-pc or small portable consoles. n100 is very poor cpu. mini-pc for similar price easly may be on much powerful ryzen.
Dude these mini PC's are fwcki g amazing. We came along way since the rassbery pay. That is very cool. Personaly i am using my samsung with dex from time to time.
Do an endevour os Linux video! I saw this pop up out the blue. We haven't advanced in computing significantly over the last 20 years. But the way we can cram them into such small hardware. Phones aside. The implications and possibilities to pre load systems like this for schools, departments, the third world. Insane!
I think for anyone who just uses the PC for browsing and light tasks this would work great. Grab a USB-C 24" monitor or whatever and wireless keeb/mouse for 40$ and you're good to go
Would be interested to see this as a mini proxmox box. Would be great to also include uk / european / other pricing info in your vids - in the uk, this device costs the equivalent of $250USD!
Yes, I'm a daily Linux user and would love to see Linux featured more. I am looking for a small form factor PC to make home Linux server (i.e., file server, NextCloud, etc.) And, yes, I have subscribed. Thanks, and, God bless, 🐧
I would like to see you do a video running this completely via battery of some kind... And tethered to an Android tablet using the app super display, which allows you to use an Android tablet as a pen and touch screen for a Windows machine. Do it!!
Ordered one yesterday to replace an old 18.3" HP laptop that's gotten old in the tooth. Dell UltraSharp 24" and a backlit wireless keyboard complete the setup.
I really want to see Linux on this. I was just puttering around with Pop OS on a NUCbox G3 with the same memory and it is very snappy. The one annoyance is that the USB C port is adjacent to the power button. I'm looking to use this with a magnetic USB C tip of disabled individuals and it would be perfect for a docking station if the power button was on the other side
You dirty dog!! I mean not really - but I read that as $100, and was like, ohhhh what's this. My stupid eyes took a min to realize it's S100 lol So maybe Minisforum is the dirty dog
I'm seriously considering getting one of these for my RV, because of the price, size, and power consumption. This could run on solar basically forever.
@@betag24cn I'd say it's more about full compatibility with all the hardware. Intel and AMD have great compatibility with CPU but other component manufacturers don't.
Know what video I would watch - over and over again - if you'd do something like a top 10 or best 3 in each price category for retro. Like under $100 top 3 devices, under ~$200, etc... It's hard to go through all your videos when i'm making recommendations to friends to find what the best device is today launchbox and retro.
Thanks. Love the 3.2 alt-mode 1-cable, a minimum for me. Can live without thunderbolt for good price it is. But will wait for more powerful n97 or n200 CPU for Linux distro use & emulation. Please review more mini PC units with n97 or n200 & 1-cable PD & display. N100 is history.
How about the noise? I have a morefine m6 and it produces very annoying constant pitch noise. In the reviews nobody tells it! In just one review measurements shows 29dB... really? It's very annoying for 29dB! I have another miniPC with 30 dB in measurements from the same blogger and it's much more silent! And this is about this minisforum in the news: "the device operates at a noise level of 24dB when it's idle and 43 dB at full load" 43 dB... Really? It's VERY loud for this small size, isn't it? Big bee buzzing detected? I'll be waiting for more and more reviews, because I hate my miniPC because of the noise I couldn't expect after reading and watching some good reviews...
I'd like to use this as a poe thin client with capability to convert to full office PC (linux). Does the usb-c port support DP multi stream transport to attach at least 2x wqhd (x1440) ?
Damn.... I know the Morefine M6 with the N200 you reviewed the other day didn't feel worth it to get rid of my Intel N5105 off brand mini PC for. But that PoE is REALLY comfortable since I leave it plugged in all day as a linux server and removing a power cable + extension cord would be worth getting this.
I could put linux on it to learn that OS then when I feel I'm use to it put linux on my main PC, then switch this back to windows as a back up for when windows stuff is needed again..
Could you use something like this with the iPad? I have seen someone power a Pi from the iPad, and control it over VNC. Is that possible with a mini pc like this?
1:48 THIS! I needed this so much oh God! Curious if it will work with USB hub on monitor, so you would trully plug single cable. And I wish it had 12Gb of RAM
ha ha ha great video, so this minis forums s100 story popped up in my news feed yesterday, and my first thought was " I wonder if ETAPrime was going to do a gaming video, on this model and here it is brilliant. I think we should take the tdp all the way up as far as it goes and if you have to point a desk fan all over it, that would make one helluva video anywho great to see
UFS storage... yeah, I'll stick with one of the N100 builds that has an actual NVME drive. This would only be an option if the size is a primary concern.
Great video! Just wondering if you could use single cable operation with the iPad Pro m4 as a monitor? Installing steam on this for lighter games and emulation, using iPad as a monitor would be an amazing little on the go set up!
Too expensive for the performance offered. For that you can get a refurbished laptop (Dell, Lenovo). Mind you, with a display, battery, keyboard and the same number of connections that can do everything that this mini PC can do. What's the advantage here? Because without extra peripherals the thing is useless.
S100 is a weird name, because that was the name of a whole architecture of computers in the 1970s/early 1980s, it's like advertising a TRS-80 for Linux, an Apple ][+ Macbook, a Commodore 64 Windows PC... oh wait they actually did that last one.
I think it would work fine for this use case but personally I would rather get a nice used Mini PC for that use, you could get a more powerful unit for about the same price or cheaper, which would also allow for upgradeability/repairability and could support the use of an NVME drive. Sure, it’ll be bigger footprint than this unit, and not quite as power efficient, but I would prefer it still. I’m currently using a Lenovo ThinkCentre m710q with a 7th gen intel processor for exactly this purpose. It’s nice because I use an NVME drive as the boot media and I also have a 2.5” rotational HDD which just keeps a mirror of all the data on the NVME. So when I’m using the unit I get the speed of an NVME drive, but just in case the NVME drive fails there’s a rotating disk HDD inside keeping a current backup of the data.
After watching this video, I bought this mini PC directly from their website, and I ordered a cable from Amazon. I was not sure which type of cable, so I bought a USB-C-to-DisplayPort cable, but it won't power the mini PC.
I think Linux will be awesome. Of course, it is not for everybody. However, idle CPU usage looks high in Windows 11. Unless I am playing a PC game, I think in every other aspect, Linux does the best.
