Glad to see a DTC ebike brand that UL certifies their battery packs and e-bikes. The industry needs to do more widely-recognized third-party inspections and certifications to address the concerns raised by poorly designed or made models. Those cheap plastic pedals are going to break fairly soon though. Odd choice given they use sturdy thru-axles instead of QR spindles and 4-piston brake calipers.

How does this compare to the XPedition and the Abound? I believe you have previously reviewed both. I have been cross shopping those 2 but this has thrown a wrench in my planning... This bike seems like a good comparable...i really like that this is UL rated - the ones from Lectric and Aventon don't advertise it so i asume its unlikely they have this great safety feature. The range on the XPedition really has my attention cause where i live is really hilly so double battery and it's hill climbing ability makes it stand out to me. Aventon stands out for its various safety perks on the Abound - turn signals + active brake lights are huge, as is brakes and suspension from known quality suppliers...now this bike...the decision making is getting harder and harder...

nice coverage! I wonder how this compares with the Aventon Abound. I noticed that you guys didn't have a video on that and would've loved to see.

That is a well designed bike. A proper useful cargo bike. I like the design a lot more than those cargo bikes with the cargo in front of the rider and a weird steering linkage system. It makes sense to have rider in front, cargo in the back. It needs two big side baskets, so you can do a load of shopping on it. There is no need to drive a car to the supermarket when you just need a few bags of groceries. 👍

@@MikeinNJ .. do you live in England or something? I did three years with a onewheel as my main transport, shopping was great fun and riding to the gym etc. A little bit of light rain doesnt hurt you, just wear a jacket. And if you live somewhere that its just miserable and pours down all through the day, move out of England. 😎

@@MikeinNJ ... sorry to hear that. One good thing about using a onewheel as shopping transport, at the supermarket I just put it in my trolley and keep it with me. Then when outside, just put it back on the ground and ride home with my groveries. With an electric bike (if I had one) I would chain it up outside the supermarket, they have bike rack etc and normally there are security cameras.

How come nobody makes a full-suspension cargo ebike? You'd think people want their cargo not to get banged up and tossed around over every bump, especially if that cargo is live.

Velotricbike It seems that this bike is not suitable for shorter individuals. I purchased the bike that is recommended for Rider Heights between 5’1” and 6’4”. Unfortunately, my wife and I, who are respectively 5'1" and 5'2", have to hop off the seat every time we come to a stop, which is uncomfortable and inconvenient. I tried to return the bike, but Velotricbike wants to keep $200 plus 20% of the purchase price, which is not a fair deal for me. Additionally, I have to pay for shipping, which only adds to the problem.

It looks like it can be stored standing up. Is that the case? That would make it a lot easier to store in an urban environment. Also, how would you rate this against the Lectric Xpedition?
@Andrew-vt4jt
@Andrew-vt4jt Год назад
Xpedition has more weight capacity in the rear and a bigger battery, but no suspension up front and offered only in white. I like the looks and ride quality of the Velotric Packer 1 more than the Xpedition.

@@Andrew-vt4jt Thanks! The two things that are preventing me from buying a cargo bike are storage and the pretty harsh return policies of most of these online purchases ($200 restocking fee plus shipping). It is hard to buy one without testing it first...

I like the design, but my only gripe with it is that it only has a top speed of 20 mph and I would rather see it at 35 to 40 mph, because, for me if I'm using an e-bike like this and especially where it's more intended for deliveries and cargo, I'm going to want a faster speed to at least keep up on arterial roads in the city, so, that I can do deliveries safely and keep up with traffic.
@freshlycharged
@freshlycharged Год назад
Do they even have cargo ebikes that go that fast?
@jds-universe
@jds-universe Год назад
@@freshlycharged that's what I'm basically saying is that there are really no options for that and if they want people to utilize this bike in a way that it was intended for, then, they're going to need to unlock that cap or at least give the option to unlock more speed with an upgrade, because, if my scooter can do deliveries also and it has a top speed of 50mph, I'm going to take the scooter because it can keep up with traffic, whereas, this bike is not going to do that because of it's slow speed it's more of a danger in my eyes when doing deliveries and trying to maneuver around the city, especially, with cars going much faster than me.

I think those are called electric motorcycles...
@2000bvz
@2000bvz Год назад
@@jds-universe I feel like once you are talking about those speeds, you are beyond the range of what an e-bike should and could do. That is the realm of fully motorized transportation - like an electric motorcycle (like dariusx4829 says). e-bikes should be exactly what their name implies. A bike that has electric assistance, not a fully motorized, high speed motorcycle. Those are great, but they aren't e-bikes.
@chow-chihuang4903
@chow-chihuang4903 Год назад
There are some that can go to 25 or 28mph, thus staying within ebike classification. I set my Lectric XPedition to support up to 28mph, mostly because safe cycling infrastructure where I live and need to ride just doesn’t exist, so I have to ride alongside or within car and truck traffic, which sometimes goes along at 40-55 mph (posted 35-45mph, but they’re wide, multi-lane stroads and speed limit enforcement is almost nonexistent). Whether you should go those speeds is a matter of what you’re carrying and where you’re riding though. I do notice with bulky items sticking out of the large panniers and strapped to the tops of front and rear racks, or towing a loaded cargo trailer, most drivers give me more space than when I ride a non-cargo bike.
