The Apple Magic Keyboard. The Pencil is good, but I no longer use it for work since I changed jobs a few ago, now I just use the iPad as a RU-vid viewer.
I agree about using the two screens. I am a sped teacher and have been using a 13” screen with Split View. Using your two screen set up will be a game changer for me.
I agree and only down side of it is it does have that extra usb c port otherwise it would be the perfect alternative but still like the Logitech combo a lot
The edge pro mount looks like a great idea. The major concern to me would be that much adhesive on my expensive new iPad or MacBook. Better could be a case that holds both that opens like a book.
I’m spoiled by the pencil I have. It’s from ESR and it magnetically charges, works even with Bluetooth off, it is space grey, and the best part is the capacitive “eraser” end which I use all the time instead of my greasy fingers to tap etc. It’s also only around $40 Canadian and seems to do everything the Apple pencil does except the double tap and pressure sensing. Love it. I don’t think I could go back to using a pencil without that soft capacitive “eraser”, I don’t know why more pencils don’t have that.
Great video, I just got an iPad Pro 11 I’m going to try it out for 6 to 8 months before I decide to go for the 12 inch . I will definitely be grabbing some of these accessories.
The one accessory I use that's similar to one you use is the OWC Thunderbolt 'Go Dock'. It's made to be portable and it has 2.5 gig ethernet instead of 1 gig.
I do like the newer 12.9” Keyboard/Trackpad case that ESR has. I did not notice any issues aside from using the battery quickly when the backlit keys fired up.
From also owning that Anker power brick, it is definitely not comparable to any other power bank I have used before. Definitely recommended if you don’t mind carrying a slightly heavy power brick.
4:40 yes, please bring universal control across iPads. Maybe iPhone to iPad? 8:16 solution to enabling multiple concurrent audio streams beyond the iPad’s only one. 13:37 Will you need to enable game controllers on iPad in the Settings/ Accessibility?
Great video. I agree about the Apple keyboard/folio/Magic Keybaord with the exception of 'when it works.' Have you ever experienced the "Accessory not supported" when attaching the iPad to the Magic Keyboard? Very frustrating. Appreciate the video, always great to see how others use their devices and accessories! Will be following your videos from here on out! Glad to be here.
Great Accessories Chris, i will try the magnetic holder on my ipad. I do something similar with my samsung tablet and phone because Samsung has it multi Control (similar to apple Universal Control) across its tablet and phone. It is amazing. You can use your tab keyboard and mouse on the phone. It works for laptops, phones, and tablets, so you can use 😮 or takeyboardord and mouse across all 3 devices. Hopefu, apple will introduce that.
The “iPad backpack” for the Magic Keyboard honestly looks useful for bags without many pockets, too bad I went for Logitechs Combo Touch keyboard cause it has a bigger trackpad and lets me use the iPad without the keyboard while still keeping it protected and adding a kickstand. Also it prolly costs >$100
Hi Chris - could you please tell a little more about your video call setup with the Guermok Capture Card and your external camera? Would it be possible to hook an additional microphone too?
Great video. You covered a lot of tech in a short time. Do you know of a good file manager for iPads? I have a Mac and need to transfer files to and from at times. Thanks
Thanks for pushing the iPad content forward. I can't use one for my work (game development), but would much rather use my iPad for use while on trips. I recently bought an iPad mini and it's been fun to use as a portrait screen for my 14" MacBook, the height is nearly perfect. I actually got the idea from you, using your 12.9" as a "second" monitor in your setup, it's aesthetically pleasing. On a side note I have a feeling I will regret my iPad mini purchase so close to the March Apple event!
Hi Chris. I've been following your shortcut videos for a long time. Especially for use on the iPad. I recently bought a Macbook and I still haven't found a way to run the shortcuts on the iPad through the Mac and vice versa. Do you know if it's possible? If so, could you recommend me related content? Thank you and congratulations on the content!
I’m glad you mentioned the capture card using a iPad as a monitor it’s a game changer using my iPad as a monitor for my Mac mini for a portable pc set up. The charjen usb c hub is the best for the money since it’s got uhs 2 sd card speeds. I recommend the cover buddy Magic Keyboard case with the pencil holder so you don’t lose your Apple Pencil and protects the sides of the iPad better than the Magic Keyboard alone. I prefer silicone pencil covers over a paper like screen protector cause it gives resistance when drawing but doesn’t compromise screen quality. Also wondering why you don’t like editing externally? I’m assuming you lost some files in the process..?
this is kind of ridiculous 😅 in some way, but I have to admit - you're absolutely passionate about the whole tablet setup, and it indeed looks fun! cool!
I’m looking into making my iPad and Magic Keyboard combo into a “Cyberdeck”of sorts, just for fun and aesthetics. I like what you have going on here, giving me some good ideas!
Hello Chris, I really love your content, it's very impressive your setup and work with the Ipad and productivity. However, I am kinda curious to understand: why do you use Ipad over the MacBook? I don't think it is Apple Pencil because you already said that you don't write on iPad screen (which is also strange you recommend Apple Pencil and paperlike on the video). If you justified by the "versatile", I think a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro 14 inch can be also versatile and easy to put in a bag from work outside of home. Also, IpadOS is very limited. Really, I am a data Engineer and as a developer, I don't understand to use iPad as a "computer". I see iPad more like a "creative" machine (or like me, I use for studies, books and notes). However, don't get that as a criticism, it is just a curiosity as I said in the beginning! Thank you again! :)
Great video. What is your workflow when recording what the Podtrak P4? Do you edit audio for podcasts in the iPad, say in Ferrite? How do you move/edit/duplicate files?
So, if someone can replicate this or know how it’s happening it’s you. I watched this video a while back, and love the idea of the magnets. It’s not silly at all, and totally gonna try it. But messing around with some settings, I all of a sudden moved my cursor towards the top on my 11” M4 and it went to my iPad mini! Ok, I thought maybe a computer was connected so I closed the lid on both my Macon pros and, I can still control the iPad mini! So I thought, ah maybe it’s somehow connected so I shut down both computers, and am still able to control it! No, I can’t drag files or photos, and I can’t move the location of the iPad mini (always towards the top).
Tbh the iPad runs so smooth it’s a small sacrifice for versatility. There’s limitations for certain use cases but for photography it makes my job more fun I’d take that over sitting on a laptop like I’ve been for 25 years. Different ways to do things is nice. All the iPad needs is more ports.
Definitely not for me, iPads are our daily drivers for personal and business use. I wouldn’t even consider going back to MacBook only unless Apple adds a rear facing camera and onboard cellular capability.
I have an IPad Pro 12.9 inch as well as an M3 MacBook and I wish I could use my iPad for everything including work due to the fact that it’s cellular and I don’t have to worry about WiFi and it runs just as smooth as the M3 with an M2 chip but unfortunately certain programs I use, the iPad doesn’t support through mobile browsers. I feel my IPad Pro could easily run Mac OS but that would make MacBooks completely obsolete.
OMFG you can connect your iPad Pro to the switch? Why haven’t I thought or seen this 😂 my god 🤦🏽♂️ I carry my 11 inch pro and Magic Keyboard in the same bag as my iPad lol… I always carry the doc and hdmi JIC along with 2 external batteries…. See, this is why I sub to this channel haha I use that very same anker battery along with INIU 20k battery that’s 65w… both batteries are plenty for all my tech.
My only issue with the Magic keyboard (and Apple’s other offical iPad ‘cases’) is that they don’t protect the device at all, which is surprising to me since the Logitech Combo Touch does, for a lower price. Sure I’d love the stand of the magic keyboard, but I’d much prefer good protection of my $1249 AUD device. Edit: i had realised i worded the last sentence weirdly and have corrected it.
Love the Rolling Square products! I even added some magnets to my monitor stand that allows me to click my iPad Pro to it. Great list! Some possible additions: * Rolling Square MagSafe puck for Edge Pro - Lets you charge your iPhone while mounted to an Edge Pro. * HyperDrive 6-in-1 USB-C Media Hub (Mounts flush to the iPad, and also provides 3 media control buttons) * Travel accessories organizer bags (I have several grouped by activity type, so I can quickly throw sets of accessories into a backpack (as well as get to them easily). Also makes airport security easier if they want to unzip a bag. Especially useful for keeping batteries+chargers+cables+adapters together. * Apple Pencil Holder (various). to keep the pencil from coming off the magnets and falling to the bottom of my bag. Especially like the Spigen DA20.
logitech keyboard far better with some trade offs but overall a better keyboard. Logitech comes with a casing and it is angle adjustable. The keyboard feels relatively the same but a little bit lower quality. Apple keyboard just looks nice but it really isnt overall.
Apple made us crazy, buying and buying for what we bought and ....convert your room walls to display and connect everything to eachother, and a Wi-Fi connection to brain.
thats not true you can drag mouse to the side a few times and your mouse goes between ipad mac seamlessly back and forth i do it every day i actually did it on accedent
i really dont understand y you wasting great brain resources to use ipad as main setup. everything you do and have problem could be done on mac or windows?
I got it and I will have a video very soon on it. I was taking my time with it. I noticed a lot of people were rushing to be first and got a long wrong. I want to make sure I am covering this right and that takes time.
mine: external portable monitor from Arzopa. wish it had touchscreen, have to mouse and keyboard instead, using wireless logitech mx mouse 3 and keyboard which inuse with m1 mac mini or other iPad. wishlist, maybe a touchscreen portable from innovision or
The absolute best tip I have ever seen was mounting the mini on the Magic Keyboard. Could a person use Orion and the capture card to use the mini as a second monitor? Then turn on stage manager on the iPad Pro?
