It is, my brother in law bought an M3 cabriolet last year, I dont the style & dont know if they'll make an m3 estate but seeing the Alpina touring, dont care, I love it & just need to convince the other half to sell a kidney or one of the kids (tbh it's good value)
The Alpina B3 takes the 3 Series platform, and makes it even faster than the new BMW M3! Built on the very same line, it features the S58 engine with enough torque to make it a very, very fast Autobahn cruiser - as I got to find out during a test drive. Is this the ultimate sleeper?
Shmee would you take this over the new M3? Me personally, as much as I love the way the B3 looks there is something about a BMW M car that makes it more exciting.
Love Alpina. The B5 Touring is my "attainable dream car". The whole ethos of Alpina is so elegant and, as the title says, such a 'sleepy' way to spice up your driving life.
My dad was the first buyer of the Alpina B4 in Australia, and we were invited to the factory back a couple years. So amazing to see the new generation!
I went from M4 to Alpina...the interior was tremendous and the ride was sublime, I urge anyone who is thinking of M3 to try Alpina when demonstrator are available
Why have I never seen anyone driving an Alpina made after 2009 before? Shmee, with you travelling around the world non-stop for the better half of a decade, what makes you happier: Waking up in a 7 Star Hotel in somewhere like Dubai or Miami, or waking up in your own bed in London?
@@Shmee150 so don’t feel sorry for you. You’ve acknowledged it’s hard work and we agree, but it’s a dream job and a dream lifestyle for millions of people.
They make fewer than 2k cars annually, worldwide. In terms of the F3x generation of B3 and B3S, Touring and saloon combined numbered somewhere fewer than 50 built for U.K. customers across 7 years. They are more rare than all but the most exotic marques or limited edition specials. It’s one of the things that attracts the small number of us who are fans of the brand.
My first car was a 1999 3 series and I thought it would be ‘cool’ for me to replace all of the bmw badges with alpina badges. One day I randomly saw another e46 that was a real alpina drive slowly past me and my jaw literally dropped. The lady driving saw my car and my reaction and laughed as she passed me. This was in Massachusetts and the only alpina I’ve ever seen in person besides newer b7’s, I never saw that car again. This was about 6-7 years ago when I first got my license.
I’ve just been to the Alpina configurator but it doesn’t allow English translation. I would love the green wagon with that tan interior, stunning understated spec Perfect for a run across Europe without drawing unwanted attention. Great vid
ALPINA makes one of the best understated cars ever. I would have an ALPINA over any of its Bavarian counterpart. Big fan of these. Good behind the driver seat pov as well.
Wish these were available in the US. I owned a B6 a couple years ago and moved to an X5M when I needed more room and I loved that car. It was everything...a canyon weapon, a road trip dream and a perfect daily driver. Now I’m buying an F80M3 as a weekend toy but would love a B3 as an option.

I saw an Alpina badged BMW as a kid & always wanted one - now we can (just about) who cares if they make an m3 estate or not, that alpina tourer is perfect
I fell in love with Alpina when I was a 10yr old kid playing in my friends Dads E21 Alpina w/ Rear disc brakes and a factory 6 cylinder. Didn't see many of those in the states, especially in the 90's :)
Alpina is just the grown up and classy bmw. It has all the power you could want but it also has all the elegance you could want, also it doesn't scream performance like a m3, perfect for the germany sporty business man
You mentioned that the alpina b3 has 150 nm more than the new m3, but the competition version has 650 nm which isn’t that far away from the b3’s 700. Awesome review though shemee 👍🏻
It’s interesting how that sounds completely different than the G80. Apparently it’s the same engine but the sound in the cabin is completely different.
