Although, I'm not from England this film reminds me of how everyday people like me cope with harsh, cold reality. It's precious to have an imaginative and magical childhood before you reach an adulthood so you can stay strong to go through the hardship of life.
So sad that Lynne Frederick (Lucy) passed away at such a young age. I had forgotten that she was married to Peter Sellers at the time of his death. An expat in Florida.
Love this film have it on DVD . See it when I 8 was in 1972 at the pictures, fell in with Lynn Fredricks (Lucy) Watched about 30 times since then . "We three Kings of orient are " .
When I was a little kid in the 80s there was a stretch where this was on TV once a week for a month or two. Cant remember the channel, but I want to say early Nickelodeon. We had one of the old cable boxes that looked like a keyboard. Every channel had its own button. 😅. But i remember seeing this movie several times for that short stretch and I just loved it. I wanna say I was only 4, my sister wasnt born yet so 1986. Then it didn't come on anymore and I was so sad. Time went on and I'd forgotten the name of the movie and even the characters names. But I always remembered the story, the plot, and the music. Throughout my life I'd periodically describe the movie hoping someone would remember it, but nobody did. Then about 7 years ago I was 35 and saw a childhood friend who rode on the schoolbus with me when we were little. We were just having drinks and reminiscing about our childhoods and I decided to ask her if she remembered this movie. I described what I remembered and in an instant she goe "Oh? The Amazing Mr Blunden?". I leaped out of my seat because she was the first person in over 30 years that seemed familiar with what i was describing. Sure enough she was right. The personal nostalgia when I got a copy and was able to watch it again was epic. I own the special edition now. Looking back I'm surprised nobody remembered it all those years. Sure its not the best known movie but its certainly not unknown.
Not sure if this film ever played in the US - very British, after all. 😀 And hard to believe that was Diana Dors under all that makeup and costume, as I remember her only from her early days.
This is a fairy tale with wicked adults, greedy eyes, innocent children, and hero’s young and old. 🥺 And it is a tale of time travel, righting wrongs, ….and maybe magic. (Mrs Wikens is a weary nasty piece o work!)
Every child should be blessed to find an old, sprawling mansion that begs for exploration. Full of dusty books and cobweb covered attics. For me and my friends it was the ancient and abandoned Cumming's mansion in Tiftonia, Georgia. A massive testament to an antebellum era long gone. Full of lonely ghosts and long dead secrets. With overgrown marble pools flanked by lions, and marble fountains clogged with the dust of time. We snuck onto the estate and marveled at a hinted lifestyle none of us were privy to. Just poor kids with active imaginations and a sort of bravery that only the young are capable of summoning. I wish I could gift every screenlocked child with those sorts of sacred places. It's the sort of thing that you carry with you for a lifetime. So my suggestion to every parent, and to every child is this. Seek out such places and keep them close to your heart. They fuel the adventure of childhood, and remind us that the real world is overflowing with magic.
being realistic never truly helps anyone. the magic is in your imagination so keep imagining beautiful things no matter what. that is the sign of a strong soul. may you be blessed ❤
Enjoyed very much, didn't know any of the cast but they were all great. ♡'d it! ThnX 4-Upld w/Eng Language Subs 4Us Hard Of Hearing/Handicapped Old Folk. ;-*)
Steer well clear of the Mark Gatiss travesty "remake". This is definitive and needs no other. If you've never seen this, you're in for a treat. If you HAVE seen it, the same. Enjoy.
Did you know... The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life throught Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 You and I broke the law and Jesus paid the fine. God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 Believe and repent today! The consequences are eternal.
