Re-posted with corrections. Many aborted attempts to get this through the copyright cops. This version is shorter than originally intended because I had to drop two songs. But I think the end result is OK.
I love these segments that highlight each month from the 70's. You do a great job picking the right music from that year and I really like the Magazine Covers.
Was 15 in April '75 and TOTALLY anticipating Driver's Ed coming that summer when I would turn 16 and then DRIVER's LICENSE!! WOO HOO!!!! 1976 Best year of my life!!!
What a glorious time to be a kid! I was 11 and living in small town in Ohio. It was the Bicentennial and the build up to July 4th was well underway. Everyone had a flag or red white & blue bunting displayed. I was so looking forward to all the parades, parties and celebrations. I was also going to the Boy Scout National Jamboree which was being held at the Air Force base about 15 minutes from where we lived. It was certainly going to be an amazing summer!
Thank you thank you thank you for mentioning the bad news Bears that was released in April 1976 my very first non-G rated film ever. It was still one of my favorite films ever.
It's nice to get treated to a FredFlix video before I retire to bed tonight. Another great video, and thank you Fred!!! I played little league baseball like so many kids and can remember seeing Bad News Bears at the movies. Such an innocent time to be a kid. Honestly, those were the best years of my life.
@@Dorthy-wx9fq Well, thank God for Fred and all his hard work in giving us a chance to remember this wonderful time. The Seventies were the best decade, especially when it came to music, movies, T.V., etc. Despite the problems going on, people seemed more united and positive about the future, especially compared to today.
I was 12 yo and in 7th grade in 1976. The bicentennial and the merch that came with it, the bicentennial money that was issued. Everyone had their US flag proudly displayed! Even made US flags into clothes! I wish the patriotism was as prominent now as it was back then. Some Americans are even comparing the US flag to a hate symbol!? What has happened to the America I grew up loving?
Exactly. The Bicentennial Minute series on TV between shows. The fire hydrant painting contests, all red, white, & blue. It was the best year ever. All the kooky merchandise was amazing, and now it's very rare to find in antique stores, and I'm not sure why. There was so much of it.
I grew up in the 1970's and there was nothing like it. And it got better as became a teenager and went to high school. I miss those times and these videos that Fred makes bring back good memories for me, thank you
I remember watching a particular ABC Monday Night Baseball game in the summer of 1976. The originally scheduled game was in a rain delay and would eventually be declared a rainout. So ABC switched to their alternate game, the Los Angeles Dodgers vs the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. That night the Pirates' left-handed pitcher John Candelaria pitched a 2-0 no-hitter. A great baseball memory of a historic game, even though neither team made the postseason that year.
Big baseball history fan from Canada 🇨🇦 here. I love your Monday Night Baseball story about the John Candelaria no-hitter. You have a good memory. Thanks for posting and take care!
I like the 2 songs that were picked out for the video of "The America 🇺🇸 We Knew"; the first one was by Peter Frampton and the second one was The Bellamy Brothers..
I was getting ready for the birth of my first child in July of 76. Bicentennial baby. I always know how old the nation is. They sure got a lot of mileage out of those Miller Lite commercials. Fun video 😊
"Helter Skelter" -- George DiCenzo, who was primarily a character actor in countless supporting roles, gives an absolutely convincing performance in a starring role as Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi .
Jeez Fred, are you an insomniac? I see the RU-vid police got you for something. Man I was transported right back to '76 with this one. Though I wasn't a Carter fan, I bet he could run the country better now in his current state than the zombie whose " running" things now.
Hi Fred: Thanks for the respect shown for All the President's Men, It wouldn't a complete tribute without it. One of the finest movies during a decade of great movies.
April 76 little league started and I was playing for the Bears. Of course the Yankees were the top team. Had to write a term paper on charisma for my 6th grade Social Studies class. After watching Helter Skelter wrote it about Charlie - got an A. Keep the memories coming, Fred.
Very, very well edited Fred. I absolutely remember that “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” ad. The Vietnam reports terrified me as a kid. I wondered if I’d be fighting there one day because to a kid like me it seemed it would never end. Guess it seemed that way to some adults too.
I read "Helter Skelter" when I was a kid!! Freaked me out -- I felt the worst for the kid Steven Parent who was "just visiting his friend" when he was shot in the driveway... turns out he may have been there for more nefarious reasons than an "AM/FM Radio repair" as we were told at the time
Really enjoy these videos from “the times of my life.” And was really happy that weird America church choir song was gone from the opening here! Thanks for your great channel and vids, Freddy! ❤
1976 was the first year I knew what year it was. There was a bicentennial calendar on the wall of my kindergarten classroom. I asked what one nine seven six was and the teacher said that's what year we're in. I remember understanding what this meant without needing more detail.
Yes, 1976 wss America's Bicentennial year, which was wonderful to remember, but I want to forget about April 27th, 1976, because I was ordered to write a letter to Vincent Price as punishment for my over-reaction to something that he said on The Hollywood Squares game show that day, and if I hadn't had a crush on him at the time, I would never have overreacted or made a complete fool of myself over him saying "No" to a question and not speaking immediately after that. The letter to him was never mailed, but had it been mailed, there was no telling what kind of an answer I would have gotten from him.
Nolan Ryan was the only athlete in the TWA commercial who wasn't a reigning world champion. Interesting they did not get anyone from the Cincinnati Reds "Big Red Machine" that was dominating the middle of that decade. I think Ryan's only championship was as a back end starter for the Amazing Mets of 1969. Rick Barry led the Golden State Warriors to the most improbable NBA Championship in history (arguably -- the Houston Rockets had a pretty mediocre team get an NBA Championship in the 1990s)
No, but it was his first film under his own name. He starred in the 1970 movie Hercules In New York, billed as "Arnold Strong" (the movie also features Arnold Stang, the voice of Top Cat the cartoon character). It's a really stupid movie, but if you're drunk/stoned enough you might get a kick out of it. He also had an unbilled role in The Long Goodbye, 1973. So Stay Hungry was his first as Arnold Schwarzenegger. He had a couple more roles in '79, before Conan.
You’ve been knocking it out of the park recently xilFderF. And you could make me a mixtape anytime. Guaranteed it’d be outstanding. 🎸🎹🎺🥁 Peace, live long and prosper my terrestrial friend. 🖖 💫
Yes the Ford Pinto breezes past the Toyota Corolla and the rest of the competition. But pray to God that rascally Corolla doesn't ever-so-slightly bump against your rear, because your whole Pinto will blow sky-high. Not the good old days there, that's for sure. That is, if I may very briefly wipe the rosewater from everyone's glasses for just a sec. Ok, back to your regularly scheduled nostalgia!
