Did he really say the Okinawa's highest temperature was 86 degrees (@29:10min)? I lived on Okinawa for twenty years, and it definitely gets much hotter than that. I remember distinctly one evening returning from Naha airport about 1997 when a lighted clock said it was 2330 hrs, the temp was 97 and the humidity was 97. -Gunny T sends

Unlike whoever wrote that about the Franklin. I knew one of the sailors. And the capt was such an ass . They try not to talk about him when giving the account of the bombing. He wanted to court marshall men blown over board for Desertion. When he got back the navy gave him a desk to command.

The commanding officer of USS Franklin subsequent to the horrendous fires and loss of life attempted to court martial 230 officers and men from the Franklin for the military capital crime of desertion during time of war, as a direct result of their actions during the disastrous fires and explosions that day on the Franklin that was hit and crippled by the Japanese bombs. Gehres specifically attempted to court martial all crewmen who were either blown off the ship as a result of explosions, were forced to retreat from the flames onto the adjacent assisting ships while their bows and/or sterns pressed into any non- burning location against Franklin, and crewmen who were forced to jump into the ocean from as high as 60 feet from the burning flight deck to escape explosions and flames. He included in his charges crewmen of some of the organized damage control teams who, because of their particular location on board the Franklin while conducting damage control fire suppression were forced to retreat back onto the decks of the other rescue vessels temporarily until their original path was clear of flames so they could safely step back aboard to continue their efforts at fighting the fires. Captain Gehres was a psychotic megalomaniac and had shown the signs of his mental illness long before this attempt at a mass court martial. At the initial change of command ceremony when he first took over from the outgoing skipper, virtually his first words to the crew of the USS Franklin, in front of their outgoing commander, he told the crew of the Franklin they were incompetent cowards and are not worth a damn until he (Gehres) has had the time forward to train them properly. He was directly referencing the Japanese suicide plane that had crashed into them previously that October 30th, 1944 resulting in 56 crew deaths and 134 wounded. He specifically said to the crew of the Franklin that the Japanese Kamikaze strike was because of their complete incompetence and poor anti-aircraft gunnery skills. He told them all those dead crewmen were their fault. By the way, when Franklin was later bombed while under his command, the ship’s combat information center, knew of the inbound Japanese bomber 16 miles before it reached Franklin, and Gehres refused to allow the ship to go to General Quarters until the bombs had struck his aircraft carrier. He said they had previously been on General Quarters too many times earlier in the day and it was probably another false alarm. Now…, I probably know what you’re thinking so If you don’t believe me about this very awful individual, please…, don’t take my word for it. Do your own research, check him out. Its all there, It’s all public record.

The lack of context in each video is hampering. I appreciate that you're largely reading out of books, but your video titles give no clue as to the topic. I like the personal recollections, but a little organization would help us in following your topic. It goes along that when you assay a topic (Midway, Guadalcanal, etc) title them such that the viewer might follow sequentially. "Midway-1", "-2", "3", etc. You present a lot of good information and insight, but it's so poorly organized that the viewer is hard-put to find any grounding. The random starts and stops make digesting the information you present very difficult. The separation between book quotes and narration is difficult.

@@csulb75 Boy o’ boy!! You got that right!!! I like YT, it sure beats what television has to offer, but is wish they had just left it the way it was and not “improved” it! I too hate this new format. We’re paying for premium service and still getting inundated with piles of advertising and stupid unsolicited mindless shorts nobody asked for all rammed down our consumer throats. Currently, RU-vid content creators are more than ever justifiably terrified of the “Great And Powerful YT “Oz” [The “all knowing-all seeing”algorithmic censorship machine] It’s especially gone into hyperdrive since the time after RU-vid, Inc. was bought out by Google, Inc. Ya gotta wonder why!?! I’d rather have to put up with steaming piles of dog shit pro-Nazi, pro-socialism, pro-communism channels, etc. and totally eliminate the present censorship machine they’ve been operating against content creators and just let people decide what they want to read and view for themselves.
