I love the JCM 900!!! My ex-wife made me sell mine as it was "too loud" 😢... but soon after our divorce 11 years ago, I bought another one & they'll have to pry it out of my dying hands before I'll sell it!!
I LOVE my JCM900 4100. It was built in 1992 so it has EL34s (native). I recently had it modified by Jens (Kruse Kontrol) in LA. He added a Master Gain Circuit and did some adjustment to the input gain stage, to me it sounds like the harshness was drawn down. I absolutely LOVE the sound now. I play through a Mesa Oversized cab with 2xV30's and 2xG12H-75 (creambacks) so I don't have any issue with Low end loss. I understand the complaints that people have with the Amp, but there are simple things, some cheap, some a little pricy, that can help with those issue. But to just arbitrarily hate this amp is just silly....there is some great tone in this thing!!!!
They are cheap to get on the second hand market. I paid 450 Euro's for a DR 100W combo from 1996. I replaced the pots for 100 Eoro's because they were scratchy. Tubes were new. So you should find one made in England in mint condition around 500 to 600 Euro if you live in Europe.
Absolutely loved this video Carsten. The JCM990 was my pride and joy. Then I started reading reviews and people were saying it was a crap amp. On top of that I also had the Sound tank Tubescreamer and apparently that was crap too. Everything i thought sounded great to me, was now all of a sudden rubbish. I thought, what am I missing. Thankfully guys like yourself and the Studio Rats of late have come out and said how they love this amp. Thanks so much for your video, and by the way mate, your guitar playing is amazing.

Still playing mine, 30 years on... One set of tubes per decade and a couple of pots. It's been played...a lot, taken a few dives and never let me down. 4501.... 50 Watt 1×12 Combo sitting on a closed back 1 X 12 angle cab of my own design
We used this in 1994 with ATTOMICA thrash metal Brazil as an invention, I used this equipment live at concerts, it is for concerts with the JCM 900, the roof fell in due to the power of the head equipment
Sweet Sound. I own a JCM 900 4102 2x12 100 Watt combo with dual reverb. Marshall gave it to me when my JTM 622 died. Once I got it re-tubed and the potentiometers fixed it has become the best amp. One of the best clean sounds of any Marshall.

Great! I have my 900 Hi Gain Dual Reverb 4100 since 1999 had the Diodes clipped right from the start. I Love this amp everytime I'd play out people would always compliment me on my sound I've only used a Morley PDW pedal with it. Could never understand the hate for this amp it's truly a workhorse. I practiced and gigged with it for over 20yrs so far is never let me down. This was a Great review you have some tasty licks, you do that 900 Justice. Sounds Great! 🎸🤘 I payed twice for mine too! Actually twice for all my equipment I have once when I bought it and one more time in my divorce! But it was worth it. 😂 Lol
Love my SLX ...LOVE IT !!! I have many 70's Superleads I customized, and the SLX shines with an equally great color of tube overdrive. That way everything doesnt sound like AC/DC's plexi's lol! Just kidding, but not if you know how to use different effects and guitars!
You make it sound nice no stupid noise reduction bleeding the life out of the sound or adding bunch of stupid top into it I mean you might that thing really nice man
My first tube amp was a JCM900. It has a picture of a Marijuana nugget pasted inside near the tubes so if you looked into the vent you'd think, "oh I left some weed in there!" I had it hotrodded by my local shop and was a faithful ripper for me until my next tube head.
I have had four or five jcm 900:s just love them. Better than JCM 800s since they are more consistent and versatile. Not bashing the 800s just that I love the 900 more
Sounds absolutely awesome, but I can't help but wonder how much of that is your playing. I sort of hope they stay underrated though so they can be picked up for good prices. Thinking of getting one to use in the punk rock bands I play in.
They are versatile monsters and will work perfectly for punk rock. I used to play a lot of Green Day in my cover band back in the day and the JCM was a great choice for it!
I’m pretty sure this is the case, but please tell me you’re playing through a 1960b cab with T-75s. This sounds great, and the jcm900 4100 and t-75s are the most hated things on the internet guitar gear-wise. I already knew neither thing sounds bad, but more people need to hear the sound from video.
The amp can sound muddy if trying to go lower than Drop C, might not be great for modern metal player, might need an EQ and a TubeScreamer engage to correct the low frequencies before hitting the amp to get more bite. Makes impossible to play with the neck pickup while playing a 7 string guitar and get anytime of definition . The Victory Kracken is trying to emulate the JCM900 high gain channel on its Gain 1 channel... I think people hated the JCM900 because Marshall added diodes clipping to the preamp chain, the Lead 100 mosfet, is also a "bad" amp, but actually sounds pretty good, sometimes better than a JCM800... depending the application. @17:50 nobody has ever really understood why Valvestate amp got recorded and why people can't really copy those tones with a JCM800...
The thing with 900's is they can be pretty hit or miss. Some sound awesome, some sound pretty horrible. I've played close to ten 4100 DR 900's all from different years, some were EL34, and some 5881's, and I only really liked a few of them. The 4100 DR is one of my Fave Amps when it's one that sounds good, and when they don't they can be pretty bad. I think that's partly why they got a bad rap from some people, but obv some people were just haters, as is the case in a lot of online forums.

Secret tip: Right now, all across the world, studios, P.A. companies, and churches have gone digital and have no use for high-end 31 band EQ's like Klark Teknik, Ashley, BSS, XTA, Symetrix. Its time to pick them up for next to nothing, and use them in the FX loop of your guitar amp! We've all been searching for that grail "tone" for all our lives, and a 31 band EQ can give you whatever tone you want. Depth, cut, sizzle, mid boost, you name it and you can get it, and cheap! How cheap you ask, $150 to $300 , no kidding. Take a look online for a used one today. All you need is an xlr male to 1/4" ts and an xlr female to 1/4" ts, and then patch it into the send/return of any amplifier.
Awesome video dude. Amazing playing. I dont know too much about tube amps. Im gonna play this amp next friday. What do u recommend me to get clean distorsion tone like led zeppelin Greta Van Fleet. They use clean 70's distorsion. channel a? with high volumen? Channel b? im amateur lol thanks in advance.

There is something I didn't like in the sound of these. But I love the feel of the notes. The perfect amount of compresion and dynamics. In JVM410 I did love the sound, but hated the dynamics and feel :) I really wish I could afford a place to play even a 1x12. I am using a tube amp with a loadbox and completely resigned from a speaker. What do you think about JCM2000?
I know what you mean with the JVM410! Loadbox is also a great solution when you can't crank an amp at home. I love the JCM2000! Another great amp I might need in my collection.🙂
I just bought one off a friend in my band. I also use an Ibanez Tube Screamer in channnel B....sounds a lot better...but what would you suggest for the best settings on the head? I still need to tweak mine a bit for a better sound. Great playing by the way!!!
Thank you very much! Depending on the cab I‘m using I run the presence relatively low (between 9 - 11 o clock) Bass, Middle, Treble at 1 o clock. Maybe Middle a bit less for metal. Nothing too fancy setting wise. The cab makes a huge difference!
@@schorschharrison UPDATE: Sold the Marshall head and bought an EVH 5150 Iconic. No matter what I did with that Marshall head, it sounded really harsh when I cranked it up loud. I eventually found out that the tubes have not been changed in 8 yrs and it was never biased in 8 yrs as well. Love the 5150 head I just picked up. I will be cranking it up at band practice tomorrow. Thanks for the reply Carsten, I really appreciate the feedback and info on your settings regardless that I sold the head.

It does! And to be honest it did too back in the day. It's got quite a lot of gain on tap. Throw a boost pedal in front for leads and you're good to go! Our ears have changed over the years I swear! 😂 We couldn't appreciate it in the 90's because everybody told us that the amp sucks.😄✌️

I bought it because of the name, but it sucked imo. My second pedal was the Ibanez MS10 Metal Charger, and that one i loved! Chees from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹

@@godsinbox Preamp gain in the Dual Reverb is diode / opamp driven. It’s almost entirely solid state. All but half of one preamp tube is dedicated to other functions.
