Sound on. From conch shells to carved wooden flutes, humans have been making musical instruments from natural materials for tens of thousands of years. What did prehistoric music sound like? Take a listen, and then hear from an expert who explains why humans need to make music.

It's so amazing we can hear that recording (if that's the correct word for it) from the 1850s.

We really feel the sound of bygone days as if it were only yesterday. What is time? There was once, but when? It turns out for a long time, but as if it was yesterday. Was it? It was. Perhaps now there is, but only in another universe parallel to ours. Perhaps life in that universe (in that world) did not disappear in time, but exists like ours, but only in another space. Someday, with the help of technology, a person will get there and it will be a reality. Musical instruments that were then you can hear and see, perhaps learn how to make them.

IMAGINE if the Sqiiggle recorder images had took off? We might not have had playbackable recordings? The could have put the squiggles through a thing like a stylograph to make a more readily legible phonetic written script... accentuating particular shapes where they are clearly common amongst certain sounds ...?

if those people made that music with stone gongs and stuff. Music would have been abandoned.
