@Jim Spencer I've been thinking that exact thing! except that lots of people especially kids don't watch TV networks anymore so what if we started something online? like a website or streaming service that exists to provide kids, adults and everything in between with quality family friendly television? a service you can trust. just let your kids go over to the PC and watch both new and old quality shows on "ffss.com?" (family friendly streaming service.com)
Of course that makes so much sense let's bring back a show that has all white people and no sign of person of color. Perfect time for that show. I wish RU-vid had an award for most ignorant comment I've ever read in my life.
My favorite show ever and I still watch it today. I'm 57 and ny Grandsons grew up watching some. They don't my Television shows this great anymore. Pure love of Family and friends ❤. Thank you dearly for sharing
I'm 60 years old I grew up watching Andy Griffith. Best show ever! That's the America I loved. Life was simpler back then , common sense was the key. Common sense today isn't so common anymore.
It's surreal seeing this. I just moved to Mt. Airy a couple of years ago. I work next to the playhouse, and live (no kidding) about 200 feet away. People are so very kind here.
Best family tv show ever. American family values and story lines that touch are hearts. The musical theams throughout the show set the stage for highs and lows for each show. I tear up still because of the back ground music that helps with the story.
I went through Mount Airy about a year and a half ago and I wish I had more time to stop and see different things there, but I was happy just to be on the Andy Griffith Blvd on my way to Raleigh.
I just recently went and it was awesome! I’m probably one of the youngest mega fan I’m 13 and I’ve seen most of his movies and listened to most songs as well as seen every episode of the show at least 4 times each but most more than that! Such a wholesome show!
Fan of the show visited mt airy july 2015 want to go back would recommend it to anyone also visit couzin garys restraunt in pilot mountain best buffet best food you will ever eat!
My Family would watch Andy every night at supper time. He was like a 2nd Dad to all of us he taught us so much. Craziest thing happened the day my real Dad passed, so Did Andy our adopted Dad. It was a day that we will never forget. Was very lucky to have been able to absorb the wisdom of 2 Great Men. Thanks much for sharing and keeping His memory Alive EYL Chris from Chicago ❤
RIP Betty Lynn who died at 95 today 10/17/21. What a great show!! Now only Opie is still alive from the original cast. (Elinor Donohue is still alive, but she was only on the show for one year).
Nancy Bullis I was in love with her as a boy haha! I loved her Brown eyes and how she would look at Barney. As far as I know she never married and no children.
My father in-law is a Mount Airy native so we didn't spend must time there. We spent 2 days in Pilot Mountain. There was a event happening. Such kind a graces people there. Tons of Barney memorabilia, lots of food. Still the best Chow Chow I even had. Only disappointed that we didn't go to the drive-in that was still open at the time.
" early American Life " come on I was a kid when those shows are the first time I'm 64 now and that's not too old early American life would be like the 16 hundreds and the Jamestown settlers
I Loved and STILL DO The Andy Griffith Show. My #1 Show of ALL TIME. I grew up with them as I was born in "58 and have been by Andys Manteo Estate several time, never going to the house though, but I knew he lived there. Im still a North Carolinian just like 'Ole Andy and only live about 3 1/2 hours from Mount Airy. I never dreamed at the time I was so close to where my favorite show was located. Although I know some scenes were shot elsewhere !!!
I lived in Mt. Airy for a short time around 1961-61 as a child. The town wasn't as Mayberry'ed" is it is now, so I have my own memories of it. The Andy Griffith Show was in full swing at the time and I was certainly aware of the connection. I knew Charles Dowell, the owner of "Snappy Lunch" and Mr. Russell Hyatt at what was the model(?) for the Floyd's Barbershop. Our house was on Forest Drive down the hill from Haymore Street where Andy lived. I knew many people who knew Andy very well; he had even attended church where we did at the time, but not at the same time. I talked to Andy's parents, and met Andy briefly when he slipped into town. It was very short meeting--mostly a "Hi Ya", a handshake, and he was gone. I *do* have Andy's autograph in his own hand--something I'm told was hard to get. Rumors were that Andy could be a bit grouchy when approached by fans, but I suppose because I was a "home folks", I was able to get it with no trouble. He was very nice to me, tho, so I don't know about the rumors...……… I've heard that Andy was a bit ambiguous about his hometown, and was not very well treated prior to his becoming famous. I found my own experience to be less than welcoming and we didn't remain in Mt. Airy long. It IS (and was) a pretty mountain town, and, except for the commercialization, remains pretty much as I remember it. I recommend a stop at the Snappy Lunch for one of Mr. Dowell's (dec.) porkchop sandwiches. Due to the tourist trade, it has expanded somewhat; in '61, it only had the narrow area with a few tables and the lunch counter.
Mayberry had nothing to do with Mt Airy. Hiatt the barber had nothing to do with Floyd the barber. There is a video on RU-vid featuring Griffith and he explains there is no connections between the two. My Airy is Griffith’s hometown. That is all
rmc rmc how am I a moron when Andy Griffith himself stated that Mt. Airy didn’t have a damn thing to do with Mayberry? The town saw an economic advantage of riding the coat tails of a man born there that left the dump of a town. Do a little research and you can watch the video for yourself where Mr Griffith explained the town is full of shit.
We visited the museum a few years ago, and it's worth a look if you're in the area. Be sure to go downstairs where there are more Mount Airy displays, including one about Chang and Eng Bunker who lived nearby.
You should go, Mt. Airy is really a neat little town. The main street is full of all kinds of stores and restaurants. Be sure and eat a pork chop sandwich at Snappys, they are awesome and the place is full of pictures from the show.
My 7yo grandson loves the episode where Opie kills the bird with the slingshot, the one where Jubel Foster's barn burns down, and the one where Opie is throwing a fit for an increase in his allowance.
I think the irony of ironies is the apparent fact that, even though Andy Griffith was the anchor of the show, he never really "got it". I guess what I mean is, he never really got it and understood it like us, nor did he really understand us who love the show. If you notice, and all of the things he has said over the years about the show, he never talks like Betty Lynn did in this video. He never expressed the kind of love for the show that we have and like Betty had. And he never really expressed a heartfelt feeling of love for having done his part in the show like Betty expresses here. Compared to what Betty expresses here, her heartfelt feelings about the show, it's like he just thought of it as a job (a job he did quite well in the first five years) and not something truly special as Betty says. He never talked about really loving the show, watching the show over and over like Betty and us, and, to my knowledge, he never attended any of the Mayberry functions (like Betty and many others from the show) except the ones that were honoring him specifically. But, despite all this, the show could have never ever been nearly as great as it was without him. I don't believe there is another actor who could have made the show such a success like he did.
Our family has been to Mayberry Days twice so far. If you arrive early you can get a fairly good parking spot in a central location. Everything is laid out in a very accommodating way. We had a great time. And the places we chose to eat at certainly did not gouge you like some tourist attractions. A must see for any Andy Griffith fan.
That is why they are called actors. We enjoy the entertainment they give us, but try not to push it too much further than that, or you will be disappointed.
Made a visit here several years ago. Was disappointed that the barber shop was closed that day. Wonderful visit. Still wondering though where this town was in North Carolina that had no Black people.
Does anyone know if some of the characters in the show were based off of real life characters in Andy’s real life. Otis the drunk. Floyd the barber. Wallys fill’n station. Gomer Pyle. Was Barney really the way he was back when Andy was a kid. Things like that.
I spent a lifetime loving Andy and was heartbroken when he turned out to be a Hollywood liberal. Apparently his homespun American decency was a charade. I remain very disappointed.
I watch The Andy Griffith Show on Amazon Prime. No matter which episode, it’s rated violent, drug use, sexual, or any combo of ridiculousness. My husband can’t figure out why this makes me so upset. I’d welcome anyone to look and see and please explain to me why this wholesome show is rated with such things. I don’t get it at all.
I'm from MT. Airy NC and trust me it's nothing like they portray it to be. Everybody is on drugs, stealing and they are making money off of Andy's name.
I live in Lucille Ball's home town and what you describe is exactly what it's like here too. Making money off her and nothing but a cesspool of drugs, drug dealers and run down properties.
Hate to burst y'all's bubbles, but the show was never filmed in North Carolina. Filmed entirely on sets and studios and production lots in Hollywood, Los Angeles and Culver City in California. Never made one single show in North Carolina and none of the stock footage is North Carolina. All California. When I was a kid I used wonder why everyone on the show was white. How come no people of diversity?
Watch it closer, the episode where earnest t. Bass is trying to join the army, there are 2 black guys in the physical room. There's several episodes with blacks in it, just gotta look.
I grew up with the show and watch it today. Andy was a great actor, to bad he was a flaming liberal! and in the end did commercials with Ron Howard for that idiot president we had named oboma! you cant find the add today, they buried it with shame!
@@santini1953 You don't know a dam thing about me, and assume far to much. Typical statement by a divisive person trying to stir up trouble and troll. You did know Andy Griffith supported Obama and was a liberal and they had to pull his ads that him and Ron Howard did because of death threats from the far right! Doesn't matter the side you are on and I am not political and don't care, I care about people, and it is apparent you only care about creating problems.
@@DeaShelton death threats from the far right? haha, well you must be proud of antifa who burns looks and pillages! and i know this, Trump will win again moron!
