Aston Martin continues to push the boundaries of luxury and performance with the announcement of the Valour, the second in a series of three bespoke V-12-engined Astons. Following the success of the one-off Victor introduced in 2020, the Valour is limited to 110 units and is already spoken for, as are the other models in the series.
Priced at approximately $2 million before further customization, the Valour is the least expensive of the three collectible cars. Customization options include a wide variety of colors and trim materials, with the most extreme version featuring a fully exposed carbon-fiber body with a choice of red, blue, or green tint. The car's presence is undeniably impressive, but how does it perform on the road?
Aston Martin has built nearly two dozen V-12 models over the years, but in recent times, manual-transmission versions have been rare. The Valour and its sibling, the Valiant, mark the return of the stick shift in these limited-edition cars. Both models share the same twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V-12 engine, but each has a different tune. The Valour's quad-cam 48-valver puts out 705 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to reach 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of around 200 mph.
Free from digital distractions and ergonomic complexities, the Valour invites the driver to fully engage with the experience. Three driving modes (Sport, Sport+, and Track) adjust the damper settings (Sport, Sport+, and Track) at the touch of a thumb switch on the steering wheel.
Despite its size, the Valour boasts exceptional steering precision. Along frayed edges and treacherous potholes, its precious honeycomb wheels may succumb to the occasional curb rash, but the car's handling remains unflappable. Track-mode corner carving evolves seamlessly into controlled drifting on damp roundabouts, showcasing the Valour's remarkable stability and composure.
The taut suspension and stiff sidewalls of the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires contribute to a ride that transforms from brittle at low speeds to supple at high speeds. Undulations are effortlessly absorbed, enhancing ride comfort. However, significant transverse bumps and patchwork surfaces can induce momentary wobbles and a faint tire shriek.
