The bull snake (Pituophis catenifer sayi) is one of the most charismatic species of reptile we have here in the midwest. In this video, I talk about this snake species and what makes them so interesting, as well as plenty of other facts about bull snakes. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments section below and I should be able to reply. Make sure to check out my other videos and social media and until next time, I'll see ya later!

Awesome! Good job busting out the snake facts in one long continuous take. My favorite part was the constant relentless hissing. Kankakee's are such a cool looking locality. :)

@@loopytoopy Wow yeah I keep bull snakes as well of course bought as captive bred since they are protected where I live. I got a pair of bulls from Texas but seems everyone I talk to say the Kankakees are very heavy stout bodied compared to others and they also fairly expensive in pet trade.

Man! That is one gorgeous snake! Thanks for all the info on bullsnakes. Out here in south central BC, we have the Great Basin Gopher Snake (Pituophis Catenifer Deserticola) which looks somewhat similar to the individual in your video. The only live Gopher Snake I have encountered was an incredibly mellow snake, luckily!

Thanks! And yeah, some bull snakes are like house pets and they don't bite or even hiss once, but some are like this individual that don't stop until they are released.

Wow!!! The coloring on this bull is awesome, I hadn’t known anything of the IL-IN variation. Across the board it seems pretty common for the spot/blotch color of bulls (sayi subspecies) to go from dark brown/black, to medium brown, and back to dark brown again moving from neck to tail. But wow, this guy is striking (no pun indended) and unusual-the blotches seem even darker. Awesome catch, and great video/information!!

I don't understand all the variations of bull snakes, Kankakee, gopher snakes etc... They all look like what I know to b a bull snake
@loopytoopy
@loopytoopy 5 лет назад
Well they all are the same species, but towards the eastern extent of their range, they will look slightly different as far as pattern and color go. Of course here will be individuals that look very similar to other bull snakes out west, but some of the bull snakes here have a lot of black coloration on them that they don't quit get further west, as well as the head coloration.

So they r all bull snakes just known by different names depending where u r n the country?
@loopytoopy
@loopytoopy 5 лет назад
@@e-reptiledysfunction2243 Other than gopher snakes and pine snakes which are a different species but in the same genus (Pituophis), bull snakes are all the same species. Kankakee bull snakes are just a color phase essentially.

What is it with the Eastern US that makes the snakes more "pissy"? Eastern Hognose are usually more "pissy" compared to Westerns too
