An Abenaki elder (native american) once told me that he know when I was about to arrive, as a murder of crows would proceed me by about 5 minutes or so!! Not sure he had second sight, but others have noticed this occurrence too!!
My parents had a large cat that slept in my crib with me as a child. SIDS runs in my family and she would alert my mother when ever I stopped breathing. She also killed a black widow that had crawled under my blanket.
as a young and only child I often saw a wolf as my friend , not unusual as many children have imaginary friends , as I grew older the ability to see him went , but i have never lost the feeling that he is still with me . great video well explained Arith . Have you ever thought of writing a book , it would be so helpful to many , ....
Hello there! Hehe, well you already know I'm writing those Norse-related short stories, eventually I shall make a book out of them just to see people's reactions. If it's possitive I shall publish a book more spiritually-oriented. I've writen a dozen books but never got to finish them, but now I'm preparing a new one for future publication, and I hope it will help.
That is so fascinating that the people perceived fyglja before someone visited. I think we've all experienced moments when we think of someone and they call. Maybe it's the fyglia....
Hi Arith, This is such a great video!!! The Fylgja is real, at least to me. I had a dream once that a woman pushed me against a wall and held me there as some people, parents and children passed by. After she stopped pushing me, I turned around and asked her "why did you push me forward?" She said, "I didn't want the children to touch you." The next day eve, I was at Yoga and I remembered the dream and I intuitively moved forward. So instead of planting myself on my usual spot by the heavy plastic steppers, maybe 40 of them, that were stacked together, I moved forward quite a bit. This was very unusual for me. But I remembered the woman in my dream! Towards the end of the 1 1/2 hour class, the steppers, ON THEIR OWN, moved and fell! There was a man nearby, but he was able to roll, yet his ankle was nicked. If I had been there, I would have been injured! I have some questions and wonder if you could help me: 1. Do Fylgja have names? How do I find out? Or can I give her a name? 2. How do I help her? I love her so much. I know she takes care of me. How can we help the Fylgja? Are there prayers? Runes? Chants? Food? Things? Offerings? 3. Something really interesting. The Yoga instructor was a young woman. She had just come back from India! She was the best yoga instructor ever! But suddenly, about two weeks later, her knees went out. She had to have surgery. And you know, surgeries often go bad. She was in her 20s. So my question is, is it possible that people PICK UP spirits or energies when they go places? You mention the Fylgja goes places ahead of time of the person. This is probably to protect the person? Could it be the young yoga instructor picked up something when she traveled? 4. About the Fylgja and the protection of the person, how can we protect ourselves when such "children" spirits are around? And how can we protect the Fylgja? Thank you so much Arith.
Very interesting video. I really appreciate how you put such complex concepts in a simple and relatively easy-to-undeestand way. At the moment I'm not in a good moment in my life, and your videos help me through. Perhaps I should also stop just watching and try to live it, too.
There is a certain comfort in knowing that nothing lasts forever. As I usually say, we are never too long in good times nor in bad, but a balance inbetween. Eventually the trials of your life will bear fruits, and when that which sustains your very existance is no longer available, more trials and conflicts will arise, so you might become stronger than before. You shall survive and learn, and with knew knowledge you become wiser :)
You remind me of that quote that says "diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handles stress really well" :) I'm just human and I won't turn in any piece of stone (unless I'll be so lucky to become a fossile, but that'd take me some time...),but I'll try to handle the pressure around me the best I can. Thanks for your words, I appreciate that :) (By the way, is there any chance you could be hooked in doing a Rune course here in Rome?)
I’m sitting in my car and even though I need to run into the store AND use the bathroom I can’t stop watching such a fascinating, thoughtful and well-presented video👍🏻😜 Blessings to you and yours, my friend.
When I met my newborn nephews for the first time I called them turtles. I don't know why or where the feeling/ thought even came from. I wonder if this was something along the lines of being able to sense someone's fylgja/totem.
About ten years ago, I started seeing owls everywhere. Not ones in real life, but pictures of them online, in magazines and newspapers, on TV, in sculptures and paintings, even in designs on people's clothing. It continued for a couple of months. Ever since then, I have a special liking for owls. When I was little, I had a turtle that I loved that someone gave to me. Do our fylgja change during a lifetime, or do we have more than one?
Depends on your beliefs. Some believe multiple come and go at different points in our lives, others believe we have one Fylgja that changes as our personalities and selves change. Either way, they’re an extension of us and mirror us in some way throughout our lives. I for one believe that our Fylgja grows and changes as we do because no one ever stays the same their whole life.
I have dreamt multiple times that I am a hawk, once that my deceased father visited me as a hawk and once of a red tailed hawk waiting for me on a trail on a stump who then turned into a copperhead rattlesnake. Also I have had so many encounters in everyday life with hawks. Ive always thought of them as my ancestors visiting me, watching over me etc. Now i learn about Fylgia in this and I'm wondering if this what is goijg on. So interesting. Thank you for a great video.
I simply wanted to say thank you, deeply, for the concepts you explained here! They gave great insight into the concept of the fylga for me. For reasons too complex and too personal to explain here, your insights helped to confirm all the more for me that Crow is, indeed, very much my fylga, while giving me even greater insight as to how he came to be mine. For this, I am extremely grateful! Thank You!
One of my favorite things is just watching his hands when he talks, everyone talks with their hands to an extent but it's just funny lol. Another great video though
One of the reasons I started making videos, was because blind people told me they couldn't (obviously) see what I wrote in my blogs, and had others to read for them. So I've started making videos so they could listen. I soon realised that deaf people also wanted to understand my videos, so I not only started to write the subtitles in english, but also started to move my hands a lot, in the rythm of my words and show some body-language, so they could easily accompany the subtitles and my lips. This is why I move my hands as if they had life of their own and wanted to take over me :p
@@thraftofcaanan281 since I know little of sign language, I do my best :p but I would like to have someone who knows it, to put the person in the corner of the videos doing it. But that requires currency I don't have, yet. But it's a wish still on my mind
I don't know about dreams... But while awake I do. I have second sight (still learning how to master it while fully awake), but I was able to see mine yesterday by smoking Jane and Catnip in large amounts. The catnip was sold as tea for drinking, for human consumption. It gets me high, or higher anyway, I just followed the inner voices instructions, so I would encourage doing similarly... Do what feels right. Follow your intuitions. Afterwards, I could feel and see her with my eyes closed, a psychedelic looking energy butterfly. She was calling to me my whole life, but now I understand why butterflies have meaning to me. I also seem to have others, not sure yet. If I were to hypothetically use DMT... I know I could see her if I tried... Because, hypothetically... I've already seen other spiritual / energy beings and Magick in action with my then boosted second sight. DMT (Regular type, N,N-DMT not 5-ME0-DMT which is more potent/different dose and far more dangerous to do without trip sitter), isn't for everyone and doesn't play well with mood altering medications like SSRI class drugs, which can even be fatal if mixed, serotonin syndrome... And Ayahuasca is basically DMT plus MAOI herbs to make it last longer than 15 minutes, but these are also dangerous especially when mixed with certain medications and medical conditions. Do your research, no matter what you do, be safe friends and listen to your guides.
@@ArithHärger Doing great thank you. A mite tired of living in Americae perhaps, but I'm almost done here. I think Germany is next. I love your chanel, awesome work. Perhaps someday I will send you a phost an tell you of where I'm from and how I was raised. Anyway, love an respect. :)
Thank you, Arith, for what is, as always a deeply enlightening and highly informative video. It's shed a great deal of light on a concept I've been struggling to understand for quite some time now, and is therefore greatly appreciated!
Very interesting. Maybe a modern association to this could be aura or even the stories of people seeing doppelgangers? Do plants have fylgja, possibly a collective one? I suspect that Mr Thorstein could be your fylgja manifesting itself because of your desire for mead.
Mr. Thorstein is indeed my fylgja, or rather, the personality I would like to have - not a care in the world, completely aloof and happy, no troubles on my mind and always quick to laugh. Mr. Thorstein is what I would like to be, ignorant of the world, hehe. I have to bring him back. He comes back after the darkest moments pass by, to cheer up a little and bring some sunshine.... and mead of course! Nã, you know I've always been about beer, and lately something a little more sophisticated - red wine! :p
@@colinp2238 I have yes hehe, but I didn't have the time yet to explore that. I don't even know what I could do with it in terms of images. I have ideas for, perhaps, 3 or 4 symbols related to me, but because I seldom talk about myself, there isn't really any specific symbol or icon people will immediatly associate with me. So I'm not sure yet.
Maybe it's your own Fylgja coming to the physical world to protect you because you were not taking care of yourself that well :p and now you need a 24-7 guardian to ward off evil with barking :p
Well said, and good discernment of the records. We still look at personal attachments with these individual spirits and World Spirits in a similar way, as it has been for untold ages. A funny story for you: At one point I was working with unusual intensity with Bear, and we conversed often as we went about the day. I wanted to please it, perhaps to flatter, to give it a treat through the body, and so in the grocery store I suggested we should buy a salmon as it must like very much indeed. It roared at me. "NO SALMON!" it shouted. "Twenty million years of eating fish, and you think that's a TREAT?! I'm sick of fish! No more fish now! Get me something new and different, a bird or a pig or something I haven't been eating every season since long before your kind even walked upon the earth." It gave me an image of a monkey-like creature in a tree, what humans came from when Bear was already established in the world. I had to stop and laugh right there in the meat department, for the joke and my personal prejudice was so obvious. I was trying to think like my idea of a bear, as a symbol or a stereotype. I wasn't thinking how a real bear would actually think on that day in a grocery store full of great varieties. This was part of the lesson, that to make best use of what it could offer and teach, I had to let go of what I thought I knew about it and just let it be itself. That day, I made some sweet & spicy fried chicken for it, and things were good between us.
Wait so they can or mainly appear in dreams so that must explain why bears are my main concept in some of my dreams like one I remember is that I'm in the POV of a grizzly thundering through the wintery woods hunting for boar or elk . or another it being when I was younger me playing with a bunch of bear cubs in the woods . so does that make mine a bear ?
@@ArithHärger Well in traditional nahualismo as it's still practiced in some indigenous communities in Mexico there is a belief that everyone is born with a nahual, it is a spirit that is part of you but also separate and it manifest as an animal and the type of animal reflects one's nature. It shares your fate and if it gets hurt you do too. While most people are unware of their nahual and don't interact directly with it those who practice nahualismo do interact with their nahual and can shapeshift into it in dreams or send it out like a familiar. A nahualli sorcerer or curandero can acquire other nahual familiars but the one attached to you is the most important one. If a curandero suspects that your nahual is lost, trapped or hurt the curandero/a may travel to the underworld in dreams in order to find it and free that lost part of the soul. This animist system of magic survived the conquest in remote areas of Indigenous Mexico, anthropologist Timothy J Knab has written about the subject
any info would be great, study for 35 years old norse everything, for about 20 years have a reoccuring dream of a lovely and loving female entity visits with me and i feel great connection with her (it) we sit in the woods in the graveyard ,in the shadow of the white mountain, by the lake. any idea who she might be,part of the self, a separate entity, or a deceiving spirit.
Is it possible a fylgja is not an animal for whatever reason I keep imagining a tree with a face on it like a humanoid tree something straight out of lord of the rings. Just an odd image that crops up not sure if it’s just my over active imagination but it’s hard to ignore it or let that image fly by. Just whenever I set the intention to communicate my mind stays stuck on this tree image thing. Also I’ve been weirdly conscious of random surrounding trees lately like my usual walk it’s like this hyper focus on trees I see every other day but now I notice them can’t describe it too well. just an awareness of random every day trees. Kind of like me walking by and being “hey I see you there tree” just random acknowledgement i guess
Hum... the way i deal.and see my totem and animal spirits is more similar to a fylgja than it is neo xamanic, i always was the odd one out maybe not so much now. Somebody said that once a pagan always a pagan...
Indeed neo-shamanism takes away some of the older spiritual perspectives and adds new ones to accompany our reality. It's good to help us in our modern lives, but it doesn't answer the questions we have about the world that surrounds us and the spiritual sphere. Neo-shamanism is a "pleasant" pill to release some of the stress and fear, but a lot of doubts are still kept. It's important to try to understand older ways that, spiritually speaking, will truly gives us some answers ^^
@@ArithHärger agreed 100% that's why I love your channel, it connects us with the old ways without losing sight of the times we are in, just how I like it, just how i am. That's why I always feel out of place in new age or neo something or other groups, its washed up paganism lacks depth, to me. Thank the gods we have people like you! Much success on your journey brother!
As the wolf is deeply connected into my persona, I disagree deeply on the description of holding ill intent. Wolves are regulators and keep balance. We don't apricate being fucked with and tend to bite and stand our ground. But when respected wolves are loyal trusting and keep harmony with the Earth Mother. But the shepherds started that war, then got fat and lazy... Wolves endure, shepherds gave wolves that bad name. And now they will fall not by our teeth, but by their own doings. Seek balance or seek over abundance, the more you take the less freedom you have... wolves know that but shepherds always want more. They will all choke consuming their own tails.
Yes, if we look into the myths. The animals represented there seem to be the fylgja of the gods, also in the sense of shapeshiefting, which is also related to the fylgja, as we see in some sources people shapeshiefting into their own fylgja. For instance, in Icelandic sagas some wizards have a fox as their fylgja and when they shapeshieft they adopt the appearance of their own fylgja. In mythology the same goes to the gods. Snakes are everywhere. Odin's fylgjur are not just the ravens and the wolves, but also the snake, for instance. The ravens seem to act as the manifestations of his own conscious, so they represent a type of fylgja related to parts of his own existance. As I've said in the video about the parts of the self, the "soul" of a person in the spiritual perspective of pre-Christian Scandinavia was divided into various parts, and some of those parts have their own special forms. The snake is definitely a fylgja for many gods.
Tótem ...? Pardon the goofiness ... mine would be such a complex ... Pokémon kind of creature I guess... not trying to ofend due the very well explanation . @)
I GUESS you COULD say that...My "fylgia" "died" with the forced medical treatment that was administered to Me when I was tricked on going to the hospital and forced to stay there based on a "conspiracy". 🙁😢
@@pazu_513 lol, if by better you mean twisting his interpretations of history to paint a xenophobic picture of germanic peoples to fit into his narrative of "white genocide" and support of neo-nazi ideology, then sure. Whatever floats your boat bud. 🤷♂️
@@Scar-jg4bn buzzword buzzword buzzword. Refusing to apologize for your own heritage is not hate. You are literally incapable of writing a sentence without using made up words. You literally can not be considered to have a consciousness.
@@pazu_513 "not apologizing for your heritage" isn't the same as supporting ethnofascism (noone cares about your heritage), nice try with the false equivalency though. Twisting your "heritage" to be some sort of validation for racism is not only morally wrong, but historically incorrect as well. That's what people have a problem with. Heritage doesn't = neo-nazis larping as vikings, which is what I've seen alot of modern "heathens" appear to be, while using the "I will not apologize for my heritage" line. 😂
