y'know, it's weird how much everyone remembers the stones and the beatles. why aren't the animals remembered in the same regard? they were pretty damn good!
What a band! Just heard we lost Hilton Valentine rhe lesd guitarist. My condolences to his family. There will never be a more intimidating sound and feel alive music. Loved them in the 60's and love them now. Please turn on the younger generation to this band. They should never be forgotten. They will not if anyone listens.
@@idontcare2851 I’m 24 and I been an “Animal” for the last 6 years! Trust me history repeats itself! All it takes is a famous Instagram influencer or celebrity to have their picture taken wearing a shirt with the band on it for millions to google and listen to their music just because their favorite celebrity is doing it lol so good music will live forever! Whether it be for the right reasons or not!
The Animals are one of the best groups of the 1960s. One of the most underrated bands ever, but if it were not for The Beatles and The Stones, they would have been regarded as either one of them.
Eric Burdon's shouting and roaring voice sounds very appealing and philosophic. He is a great and wonderful singer but I think he is kinda underrated. He is one of my favorite singers.
+Jeri Faris Labib As you told, I left some similar comments in several the Animals' clips. It means that I have a crush on this group and especially, its singer, Eric Burdon. But they had several other covers like "The house of the rising sun", "Don't let me be misunderstood" and "Bring it on home to me" and their popularity came mainly from such covers. Of course, they produced their own stuffs, "I'm crying", "We Gotta Get Out of this Place" including this song. Moreover, the original line-up was split up too early. Eric Burdon formed Eric Burdon and the Animals with a new line-up later. They released "when I was young". But they failed to transport as much popularity as thought. That's the way the market trend was at that time. In spite of my subjective and arbitrary opinion, his voice deserves to have so much more than he actually does at least.
Eric Burdon is hands down one of the greatest singers of his time. If you listen carefully his voice is an amalgamation of Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison. Fantastic singer!
paul harris Uh, no, idiot. Eric Burdon's been putting out albums forever, even though his voice is shot. Why in the world would you, someone who knows absolutely nothing about the subject, write authoritative posts on the subject as though you do? Get lost.
Born in 1950, I am so grateful I was able to enjoy the Animals, The Who, Dave Clark 5 and the Beatles, My favorite Group then was The Who, but listening to the Animal's songs now....Its the Animals. Eric Burton is an awesome vocalist. The first song I learned to play on my guitar was The House of the Rising Sun.
Eric Burdon...one of the all time greats. Summer of '66, I drove my red Mustang fastback to a concert in upstate NY. The opening number was "Don't Bring Me Down". On the opening power chord, a gigantic speaker mounted 20 feet above the stage exploded. I kid you not. After a 30 minute delay, the band came back on, and this time the speaker held up. Eric Burdon continued through a 90 minute set, and, I tell you, he was the real deal. They did virtually every song in their record catalog, and more.
from where did you drive your Mustang to Upstate NY? Thanks for sharing your memory. Reminds me of when I was asked to choose a song during a group psychotherapy session. Each torture victim chose a song for the counselor to play. The counselor loaded my song, then foolishly walked away from the player. The opening banging bars of "Crazy Train" song by Ozzy Osbourne nearly knocked my unknowing counselor off the floor as he walked towards me away from the speakers with his back facing the player. Made my day. At least I laughed.
I was 11 when this aired. I was 25 when I collected all the Animals songs. I'm 65 now and have never gotten tired of these classic songs that have endured.
It’s 2023 and I heard this on one of the classic radio channels on XM and I thought I wonder what they look like I was just picturing this Rowdy Rebel looking dude, singing the song and of course I forgot about the suits and everything back in the day, I thought it was such a good video to watch for the talent he Was -yes he’s 82 years old now. Wow.
***** Hilton Valentine also had a Futurama and Gretch Tennessean just like George Harrison. The Gretch was used on House of the Rising Sun and the Vox he owned was a 12 string Brian Jones' Vox was a six string if I remember right, but had the same teardrop shape. He is playing a Rickenbacker in this video.. Hilton has a web site telling about the equipment he has used though his career.
I have listened to this song for almost 50 years now and it never gets old. Along w/ gotta get out of this place, don't let me be misunderstood. Just great music that has passed the test of time, will always sound like it did the first time.
You are so right Vic. 50 yrs. later & its still a great song. Don't forget their all time classic.....House of the rising sun.......... Its been the ruin of many a poor boy.............And God....I know....I'm one.
When "The Boss"- (Springsteen) says Eric Burdon had a tremendous influence on him in his youth thru his range and devotion - the Animals were truly a treasure!!!
One of the most underrated singers out there. Sure, you hear about Jagger, Lennon and McCartney but Eric Burdon's voice tops them all. (Jagger has the best stage presence of course!) Why can't they make music like this anymore? People with real raw talent. At this point, it didn't matter how they looked or how marketable they were, it was about talent, ability and most importantly the music. I wish we could go back to simpler times. It seems like music was so much fun back then instead of the insanity it has become. Sorry to preach. It just came out.
Excellent song. For those of you lamenting the demise of music, we have Anton Newcomb of The Brian Jonestown Massacre carrying the torch of great music
it's so strange to think this video was uploaded when I was a child in 2007 which to me feels like a lifetime ago, yet the day it was uploaded, the song was already over 40 years old which is longer than I've been alive. My mind simply can't comprehend how long ago the sixties was, yet whenever i listen to these songs they still sound so fresh, so modern, so original. idk if it's just me or if the songs were just that excellently crafted, maybe a mix of both, either way, i do hope this music never dies. it's a genuine miracle that the internet exists and we can access all these songs literally in the palm of our hands
Time Is all relative for someone in d roaring 1920s d 60s would of seen d future in d 2100s they will look at d 1980s n 1990s like we look d 1800s were all dust at d end d old men used to be young n d young will be n old men n d sun will die out n life will cease to exist
He comes from a British working-class background, and so many songs have the theme of getting out of that treadmill existence, and of gaining freedom from that rigid fifties mentality of what was and wasn't acceptable. (hence the title of the song, and also "We Gotta Get Out of this Place")....a common theme then in rock, and among us kids, too. Oh, boy, it was a fun time.
Yeah, yet another great song by the Animals . Quite possibly one of the most underrated Bands . Plus they had Chas Chandler playing Bass . The guy Who brought a young Jimi Hendrix to London.
@Chief BigToke Not gonna happen, ever again, the UK is fundamentally different, the entire English culture is basically dead in the water, the Scottish rebelliousness is no more and the same goes for the Irish.
One of the best songs ever written. Nobody but Eric Burdon and the Animals could have made this so popular back in the day. I saw them at a teen club when they were just hitting the states. Eric was still singing as far as know and he can still belt them out.
I'm not young, damn- I still listen to them several times a week and Alan Price when he went solo. Eric Burden will ALWAYS be an excellent singer and sexy too and their repertoire very, very good...
The Animals have been and always will be on of the most highly rated music groups of all time. When they came on the scene we loved them as much as The Beatles and Rolling Stones. This song is one of their best; dynamic, soulful and cool with great changes, lyrics and delivery.
The great song itself had some pretty creepy lyrics. "There'll be women and their fortunes Who just want to mother orphans Are you gonna cry When I'm squeezing them dry? Taking all I can get No regrets When I openly lie, ha And live on their money Believe me, honey That money Can you believe? I ain't no saint
Something so often missed... was that this sound, this musical style, was SO VERY NEW. These bands were laying down the paving stones for bands to come. And some pathways could just never be repeated. The Animals were such a creative, original group. I only wish they'd held up longer, added more music to their archive for all time.
Eric Burden is 81 & very much alive. This video cracks me up, girls heads as hunting trophies on the wall boppen their heads, OH MY GOD i could hear the screams of sexism today & demanding it not be shown. Simply said they couldn't pull off an act like that today on network television or many cable channels. Great talent.
22, one of my favourite songs. the vibe in this video is immaculate lol. sorry, i can’t describe it. the way they present in this era is so cool. stiff posture, polite suits, and rocking the house 😎 animals4evr
RIP the two members of The Animals Chas Chandler (December 18, 1938 - July 17, 1996), aged 57 Hilton Valentine (May 21, 1943 - January 29, 2021), aged 77 You both will always be remembered as legends.
THE ANIMALS ARE GREAT. I SEEN THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND THE SHOW WAS GREAT. I LOVE THERE OPEN MINDED ATTITUDE AND THE WAY THEY SAY WHAT IS ON THERE MINDS.. THEY ARE LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS AND PUPPETS.
