Donald Trump may have started the Republican presidential primary strong with wins in Iowa and New Hampshire - but nearly half of GOP voters there didn’t vote for him.
When those voters were asked if they’d vote for him in November, if he was the nominee - a good percentage of them said no.
So who are these Republicans that won’t vote for Trump? WSJ looks at the data to see who this is and what it could mean for Trump in the general election.
Chapters:
0:00 Trump’s problem
0:47 What defines these voters?
3:43 The stakes for the general election
State of the Stat
WSJ breaks down a key stat or data point to explain the current state of the political system - and why it matters.

"Willing to break the rules to get things done" just means "engages in authoritarian practices to go against the will of the majority of American people." They're barely even coding their language nowadays.
@marcusonesimus3400
@marcusonesimus3400 4 месяца назад
It certainly is a case of the ends 'justifying the means'. You are right, authoritarian regimes or movements tend to use that precept as an excuse to violate the law, even as they pretend to uphold 'law and order'. Trump's monumental double standard in thsi regard could hardly b more glaring. On the other hand, speakjng as a Christian, I must challenge the notion that the majority is always right, even though it may sound 'abti-democratic' on the surface. Were the segregations in your Southern states right when their will was the will of the majority-----at least of those who had the vote at that time? To take a Biblical example, were the majority who mocked at Noah proven right or wrong when the Flood overcame amd destroyed them? It is widely agreed that 'democracy' has many advantages over rigidly authoritarian systems, for which reason the latter usually make some pretense of being democratic. But an idol should not be made of democracy, any more than any single political leader should be treated as a 'god'. Nor should we forget that by nursing movements like Communism, Nazism, or Trumpism through electoral processes, democratic institutions undermine themselves.

The problem with a conspiratorial political movement is that they'll let losers call the shots. Trump and Kari Lake are the best examples. While Republicans around the country are fighting for their lives in competitive races, Republican voters decided to make their most extreme members, Big Tech CEOs, and billionaire lackeys the face of their party. It's a fatal weakness that no one is interested in correcting. And thank god.

It is the political football that rep. party believes will activate their voters. And the fire will be demonizing an illegal immigrant before the election. RNC tying the Ukraine support to that issue has me wondering if they are figuring the bot farms from foreign countries and maybe show they have a number they have figured into the mix. These strategies are all calculated to activate voters they want to vote. Biden's school loan shot (young people), Biden's natural gas shot last week (environmental). The list is long on both sides.

Interesting analysis. What's interesting, as well, is that a lot of longtime Republicans have left the party since Trump came on the scene in 2016. I don't know if we can quantify that definitively but anecdotally I think it's significant. Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million in 2016 and by 7 million in 2020. He was able to narrowly win the Electoral College in '16 but it was too much of a deficit in '20. If he's not reaching out, as this video confirms, how does he climb out of that hole?

I've been a registered Republican (moderate R) now independent and was a strong McCain supporter here in AZ but the way Trump talks about soldiers as being "losers" and "suckers" and the way he dishonored McCain saying he is only a hero because he was captured (not because he served), has turned me away from ever supporting Mr. bonespurs and for now will continue to vote for Mark Kelly (former Navy Captain and former NASA shuttle commander) a real hero. R's have lost my vote till the GOP comes to its senses and gets rid of Trump and his enablers in Congress. Not the only former R here in AZ (though had 2 friends move out of AZ last summer and both are Republicans and both moved their families to FL with pretty much same reason that AZ is becoming too diverse for them).

I voted for him in 2020 due to how positively he has affected my life. I've been called racist, sexist, and the whole shabang for that. I don't see why I wouldn't support him. The other politicians label me things negatively and do nothing to help me. I will vote again this year for the politician that's actually helped me. The "criminal" stuff seems ridiculous to me.
