I agree with what he said about the paranormal. I think that if a refutation of antinatalism even exists, it has to be something supernatural. For instance, if someone proved that souls existed and that by procreating we pulled these souls out of hell by letting them incarnate, I would start procreating right away. As much as humanly possible. 😁

Regarding the best argument for Pronatalism: I think making decisions should be based on one's best knowledge and not on one's beliefs (in this case the paranormal). Just look at what different belief systems have done and still do in this world. It's madness.

Great interview Lawrence. I heard Karim on Exploring Antinatalism. Brilliant mind. One notion I have really sticks out in my mind. Would ever-increasing sophistication of AI-Robotics remedy at least the worst aspects of population decline? Thereby allowing a declining population a comparatively soft landing. I'm particularly thinking agriculture and upkeep of infrastructure.

There is another option regarding the reducing human population apart from smaller separate 'tribes' gradually getting smaller and further apart, which is a condensing or gathering of people as the population declines. Kind of like the exodus from the Great Rift Valley but in reverse...

Main raison d'etre for antinatalisam should be complete lack of cosmic meaning, nonsensical nature of this reality and futility of existence. Suffering is just one of many imperfections embedded in the fabric of existence.

31:05 - on a "pre-sake ontology" - one is not making an assumption that one does not exist before being born. Even if a *version* of you exists (say in some temporally prior configuration space) which precedes your existence, the absence of any memory of the event is a hard boundary condition. Subsequent development of the contingent self is entirely induced, non-consensual, and catastrophically destructive. At the very least a second and topologically segmented iteration of "you" has been created. The "pre-sake sake" argument for procreation is nothing more than a goal-post shift, functionally similar to "god did it." It is either an appeal to unfalsifiability (and ignorance) or, in the case of someone who has experiences of some kind of prior sake, purely experiential knowledge and not frame invariant information. I would never deny someone has whatever experience they have, but if you want to convince me you came from a pre-birth bound phenomenological self-condition you would have to present objectively measurable and independently verifiable/repeatable tests and evidence for it. There does not appear to be another way of apprehending frame-invariant facts than induction and science. I don't like that at all, but my search for alternatives (psychedelics, meditation, learning from others, etc) have failed.

The clicking I didn’t not hear during the actual recording and could not fully remove it during the editing. I was looking at Karim the whole time on my laptop. The camera is above the laptop so from that angle I am looking down.

15:08 I have to disagree slightly here. Hear me out.... The reason why people reject veganism is because they lead with their MIND rather than their heart. A true heart could never conceive of enslaving other beings for their own selfish pleasure and benefit. It is the desire-filled mind (which is constantly looking for more and more and scheming of ways to benefit the self) that is the culprit here, whereas the heart wants to give everything it has to others. It is the mind that is the enemy. The mind and heart must be in alignment, and most people's hearts are completely corrupted by the desires of the mind.
