The Apartment Every New Yorker Wants… But Can’t Have

This NYC Apartment Has Everything - In Unit Laundry, Classic Vibes & Modern Finishes, but there’s a reason you and I can’t have it. It’s in Gramercy by Madison Square Park south of Midtown Manhattan. There are also a ton of restaurants and local cafes in the immediate vicinity of the building. I definitely think this is a sweet apartment, but again someone (and his friend) wont let you have it or else they’d be homeless! Check out this nyc apartment tour and let me know what you think!

As a New Yorker , I can say unequivocally, the front facing fire escape is the poor man’s balcony…..and a great deal of memories had been created there , without question. Speaking of poor ……those rental prices are definitely not for the poor , or working poor. I guess the pandemic effect has worn off because these are surely pre pandemic prices. Great location though Peace

I always wonder where the low end wage earners , like waiters & cashiers etc who work in NYC live..
@creaturecore13
@creaturecore13 2 года назад
Usually out in the burrows with 2 wage earners or NJ. You don't live in Manhattan unless you are well above 100k salary or willing to share a closet with someone else and have your entire salary go to rent. Unless you were lucky and your parents lived here years ago, most never change their address from the apartment. When they die they take over the cheap rent. Landlord can only raise rent a small percentage until the tenant leaves.

@@rebeccaa2433 Yes, but still not enough for manhattan. Waiting tables will bring in more then a start up lawyer, but not an established one. Waiting tables at an upscale restaurant pre covid would get you close to 100k a year if lucky. Not enough money to be spending 45k on an apartment in Manhattan a year after you add in taxes. Same with bellmen at a busy hotel. Usually make high 20s/hour and tips come to close to 100k. Still not enough for Manhattan. Building engineers, front desk staff, security, ect usually turn in 65-75k.

The kitchen is tight but has everything someone would need. The tinted glass shower is a great idea, too. The living room has windows and both bedrooms are large enough to be comfortable. The neighborhood is he draw, although things are expensive, so the tenants would probably try to eat at home most of the time.

Random question…How do people wash dishes in NY? The kitchen sinks in soooooo many of the apartments are smaller than the bathroom sink. Why? I guess I’m accustomed to a large double sink. I don’t place pots and pans in my dishwasher. Those sinks are often too small to hold anything that I’m thinking if.

I’m thinking most people living in apartments like that don’t cook much anyway. Doesn’t take much space to wash a fork and a coffee carafe.

Laina Bobaina If making big pots and pans of food is your joy, you would make a big sink a high priority. It's a matter of your own lifestyle. Personally, I want a freezer and wouldn't be happy with a mini fridge. As far as the bathroom sink, a lot of people do some laundry there, among other things, and a larger size is helpful.

There was so much happening here...... First off, I wonder how much time it took you to buy that drink and 7-11 when you factor setting up your camera walking through the store. Do the employees look at you weird and wonder what you're doing? I also wonder how often residents in that first building really use their functioning fireplace. Would one want to if they mount their TV directly above it? What was up with that mini fridge?!?!? Was that alcove odd where they couldn't get a bigger one? That second unit seems a touch cramped for it to be a 2br. I'd lose that wall, make it a 1br and I'd think 4K is justifiable since it's an all-inclusive unit with w/d and a dishwasher.

So, you pay more for an apt with a real woodburning fireplace, then you go out & spend a ridiculous amount of $ on some real wood, drag it back home to use in the fireplace, but it won't light cause the wood needs to be dry & yours is wet. The apt fills with the acrid smell of wet burning wood. Which is really not the ambiance you were hoping for. Then you need to drag all the half burnt wood out of the apt & pay for someone to dispose of it properly. And then the landlord hits you with a $500 cleaning fee to rid the apt of that lovely wet wood burning smell. 🔥 Total $ spent for ambiance $1000 But it has a fireplace !
