My dad took me to the Apollo theater to see Jacke Wilson when I was a teenager. I think we were the only Italians in the audience lol great memories

Harlem is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOW.....GENTRIFICATION.....when i met my wife in Brooklyn in 1998 i use to go to NYC to visit her like 2 times a year....we would travel over all 5 boroughs because i wanted to see NY so much, Harlem was hard to see a white person but now you see them all over Harlem.

I remember visiting Marcus Garvey Park one Sunday morning just to see what it was like. Ignoring the red flags that were actual piles of human feces and discarded syringes, I walked up a path a couple of feet to witness one homeless dude giving it to another homeless dude. Neither of them looked like they were enjoying it. That was the beginning of my first full day in NYC. What a trip.

Have you been to Camden lately ? It's slowly being cleaned up , I lived there back in the late 90's you needed a armored car then , now it's flooded by the new Camden county police

Honestly I haven't been to Camden in several years, it is great to hear things are turning around there, that is good news. In New York many parts of the city which had been written off have made dramatic comebacks as well, Williamsburg and Red Hook Brooklyn, Long Island City Queens to name just a few. But good for Camden.

New York lost its edge. I remember 42nd street and Brooklyn well. When it rained in the Bronx the debris would float. lol

Harlem has gone through a lot of recent gentrification. I must say it really looks nice....from what I can tell. :)

In 1958? My brother and I 10 & 11 ,two white kids, used to walk to a big market with a terrific bakery across the street from the Appolo. There was a soda fountain that we could climb into a newsstand and watch Red Fox in a bar giving a monolog

hard to believe this place was the "hood" at any period of time .. this about as rich of a city as you can get . I don't typically judge the hood by its main St.. and try to wait till you make a left or right into the heart .. not just in theSE videos .. but I'm talking just in life in general this looks like we're affluent artists.. and Bankers live

Right I remember Harlem in the 80's and 90's. It was nothing like this. There is still some hidden ghetto areas in Harlem, but they made sure the areas you are likely to see look nice, and are very expensive too.

CharlieBo313 if you ever in Cali . I'm sure la gon be your first stop but after that please make sure you come to the IE. and drive thru the city of San Bernardino.. guaranteed to get some good footage. and come down to Riverside.. downtown . off university or 14th st. on the east side . or HEMET!

I lived in Harlem from 2010-2017. There were white people moving in more frequently and driving up the rents but it's still mostly black and latino families and professionals. My rent was 1800 for a one bedroom. Crazy, but it had cool bars and restaurants. I will miss it.
