New shooters, have questions about which reticle is right for you? The Reticle Wars video series will cover BDC, MOA, and MIL reticles in future episodes, but we need to master some basics first. What really happens to make a bullet arc through the air creating its trajectory? What does point blank range mean, and when can we use it? If we’re smart, what can we do to extend our point blank range by setting up a battle sight zero?

In the next 15 minutes you’ll get a handle on all this and even more. You’ll learn why Swampfox Optics prefers the 50/200 battle sight zero for AR-15s chambered in 5.56 NATO, what battle sight zero strategies are used by the Army and Marine Corps, and what kind of accuracy you should expect to achieve using it out in the field. You can do quite a lot with just a single point of aim system like a red dot, if you understand the physics involved and keep your expectations realistic. So let’s head to the range and get started!

Does this zero work with the Bdc reticle on the 1x6 arrowhead or do the hoods become inaccurate. If the holds stay true I’m interested

If you check the user manual, you'll see that we actually incorporated the 50/200 battle sight zero into all our BDC reticles. So all Tomahawks and Arrowheads using the BDC as intended should sight in at 50 yards, not 100 yards. --SF Mike

Nice. I'm a huge fan of the 50/200 yard zero. Btw, I have an Arrowhead 1-10 with the bdc reticle and I'm in love with it. Only gripes are the center dot being a bit larger than I'd like. I prefer a fine aiming point, specially on a second focal plane optic. Also that it's in second focal plane. Can't wait for that ffp 1-10 to come out. Keep up the great work.

I consider the 50/200 to be the best point and shoot sight in there is. In my area of the U.S. your maxium shoot would be 200 Yards because of the typograhpy in my area. The 50/200 is good for self denfense at close range and no bullshit hold overs out to 200. It is in my opion the best sight in there is for 5.56.

Yes I seen it too, sometime these guys just push more equipment. But I dont get into their hype. What is your goal an AR to protect your life, family or stop govt over reach stops at 300 yards.. After that you need a big boy lime 308, or 6.5 creed. Or 7.62x 51 to stop threats like a sniper. This Shit is cool to have but make the weapon fit the protection level. I have level 4 body armor and plan to stop terrorist and govt under 300 yards and win a fight. We just cant keep up with thd cool shit every tuber runs for us. But I sure love me some swamp fox optics its priced right coming from China the country that will take us down thanks to Biden the china ASSET...

Awesome! I just got my Blade prism and hope to take it to the range soon. The problem is - getting a 50 yrd zero on a 25 yard indoor range. I think point of impact should be 1" below point of aim on a 25 yrd target. (using 55gr, FMJ, 223/556 ammo with a 12.5" barrel)
@glock23fan50
@glock23fan50 2 года назад
Ya you gota really find a 100 yd outdoor range bad... I have the blade swamp fox but the green chevron is very small compared to a 2 or 6 mil red dot. There is also a 36 yard sight in as well. But consider whats the barrel twist and cheap 223 with 55grain is cheap ammo. your bullet grain should be 62 or higher to have accurate hits up to 300 yards and should go to 5.56 to get these accurate shots.

All knowledgeable shooters know a zero is a placeholder. It’s like where you parked your car. So from where ever your scope is parked you simply adjust it to where you want to go. The bottom line is sure you can have a battle sight zero but is there a point to it?

1st and foremost Swampfox optics hands down the best available at each price point and hold up favorably vs similar optics that cost 2x 3x sometimes 4x more…my question is how much variation is there using the bdc shooting a 62 grain vs the 55 grain that was used as a benchmark?
@richelle9563
@richelle9563 2 года назад
50/200 zero means "Heashots out to 200 yards without adjustment", How bout that.😎 Common AR-15 can print 6 moa at 200 yards which is exactly the size of a human head 6" width and 9" length.
@moonpaws1
@moonpaws1 Год назад
Little confused here. So if you had a laser bore site tool, you would have to put that red laser dot a little above the center of target at 50 yards and adjust your scope/iron sight to that red dot from your laser tool. Otherwise if you match the sight to the red laser right on center, theoretically your bullet will be low.

Question: would the blade reticle work at close range with a 36yd zero? I don’t think at close distance it would really make a huge difference, but it’s something I’m considering to replace my RD and irons on mine.
@SwampfoxOptics
@SwampfoxOptics 2 года назад
Uhhh... you jerk! How dare you! Don't you see what you've done here? Now I need to bring my Blade to the range and re-zero it for 36y and see what happens. I don't trust ballistic calculators to get the math right on the close quarters holds, they aren't really intended to do that sort of calculation. So it's actually going to be easier for me to just go out and DO it and find out. --SF Mike

Swamp, if zeroed for 100 , and my bullet impacts 12 “ low at 300, if I now change my zero to 300 , will it now impact 12” high at 100 ?
@SwampfoxOptics
@SwampfoxOptics 2 года назад
I'm not sure what cartridge you are referring to here. If you're shooting 5.56 through a standard carbine you'll have about 8 inches of drop at 300, and if you have a 7.62x39 AK you'll have about 22 inches of drop at 300. But to test your theory I made a bit of a silly configuration in Strelok Pro, of a 6.8 SPC II with a crazy long barrel, like a 24 inch long barrel, so that the drop would be 12" low at 300y with a 100y zero. Then I "re-zeroed" my virtual rifle at 300 yards. Bullet impact at 100 yards was only 4 inches high, not 12 inches. But even then, this is only true for my make-believe virtual rifle programmed into StrelokPro. If you had a different caliber with a different ballistic coefficient and a different velocity, but it still hit 12" low with a 100y zero for whatever reason, you would get a different result running the same exercise. Remember there are a lot of factors and variables involved, but the one that matters the most here IMHO is that bullet drop increases as velocity slows. It's not a straight line that is easily reversible, it's a curve-- so swapping zeros just puts you on a different area of the bullet's trajectory. --SF Mike
@ChipSpencer123
@ChipSpencer123 2 года назад
Where would you hit at ranges below 50 yards. Do they still fall in the 8" circle?
@SwampfoxOptics
@SwampfoxOptics 2 года назад
Yes. Up close you do have to worry about "height over bore" which is created by the mechanical distance between the centerline of your optic and the barrel of your rifle. This manifests as hitting the target about two and a half inches low at close quarters battle distances-- what I call "spitting distance" of 5 to 15 yards. The Swampfox Blade 1x prism has a reticle in it that is designed specifically to compensate for this issue-- we call it the Bullet Rise Compensating reticle. But Blade is a niche product that way-- intended for home defense and law enforcement shooting, it is the master of close quarters and not any help at all at longer ranges. --SF Mike

In combat you would have miss your target, 300 yard zero is for torso size targets and in a practical combat scenario most enemies shoot at a defilade and only their head and arms expose to shoot and peek.
