This is a brief tutorial on how to play my new Carbon Fiber Arabian Penny Whistle. Concert tuned and available at eriktheflutemak... Goes great with drums... If I only had a drummer.
I own this flute and let me tell you, completely worth the buy. Such a beautiful flute, easy to improvise, amazing sound. Just in love with this flute. Amazing work!
You reminded me of Dumbledore. I salute your talent.I hope I can improve myself in the future.I just bought a tin whistle yesterday but that Arabian flute sounds exotic. I'm inlove with it😍
erik through all your videos ive learnt so much, ive applied everything from this arabian scale to the way you express yourself through music, i apply it to my sax playing and its helped lift m depression, the Arabian penny whistle is on my list thanks erik
The penny whistle with an arabian scale? Ive never heard any scale on a penny whistle except maybe the standard scale on irish tin whistles. Sounds beautiful!
Just received mine today, so 🤗!! It sounds great & is easy to play, arrived well-packaged and within a week. Excellent quality. Very happy with this whistle and the lovely bag you’ve included.
I have one of Erik's Arabian Carbon Fiber whistles and can confirm that it's great! The tone produced by the carbon fiber really goes well with the arabian scale. Very melodic, easy to play in both octaves, and you can even get a few notes in the third octave. Recommended!
Hiya Erik, Love the Vid'. The whistle is fab' and I love that melodic scale. A tune that would be perfect for this whistle is the Turkish tune Misirlou, which has a really great Eastern 'edge' to it, a partly re worked rendition of it was used for the title music of the film, Pulp Fiction. Thanks, David.🐪🌞
@@nickmageiras1 You two are both right! It is a folk song shared between cultures, traditionally played on the Turkish Buzuk or Greek Bouzouki, two very similar stringed instruments. Dick Dale, who re-worked the song in the 60s, learned to play the Bouzouki when I was young, which is how he learned the tune.
Beautiful!!! As a flautist I collect so many variants.. BUT THIS ONE is phenomenal!! I love lower tones mainly, so do you make this in a thicker/longer bore? Do say that one right there is divine!!!!
It looks like you use seven fingers. With my regular high D Irish whistle I play by ear only, with six fingers, and by how it all feels, like I feel out the songs I play. I also feel it in my throat, and find my throat strangely changes somehow, like I'm kind of singing too. Going by feel with this Arabian whistle, and playing by ear, is it more difficult to learn when to use that seventh hole? What key is this made in? Why are there seven holes? What does the seventh hole do. You're playing is phenomenal. Is this whistle very loud? You have a real sense of humor! Thanks for this video!
Me too! When people enter my shop after I burn the holes they always comment how sweet the air is. Due to the sugars in the bamboo with the burning. After burning, when my kids were small, I would come into my house and put my hands to their noses and say, this is the scent of your dad. My stained yellow hands would smell wonderful for hours. Carbon fiber has its benefits as they will not crack. Having said that, in the year 2,000 I pulled a cracked flute out of my inventory and liked it so much, 16 years later I still play it most every Sunday at my church and other places. Regards, Erik
Which flute would you recommend to someone who has never ever played a flute at all. I dont like the low tunes but this flute sounds awesome! Is the flute your showing in this video good for a starter? Or would you advice me to learn of with a recorder?
The arabian penny whistle is very easy to learn on. If you like that sound, go for it. Many start on the Kiowa Love Flute. Others who want to copy tunes find the penny whistle a great place to start. A recorder is actually a hard instrument to learn. Erik
Excuse me please. Which is the scale for this arabian penny whistle? And is this scale the same that was used in the transversal arabian flute? Thake you so much.
I never played that instrument but I want... I want to know if there's a big difference between tin whistle and penny whistle? Can I use tin whistle for Arabian style muzic?
Hi Melinte: A tin whistle is a penny whistle made of tin. A penny whistle has 6 holes that gives the 8 note major scale. It will also play in minor and pentatonic. My Arabian scale is more exotic with holes of different sizes in different places to give that Arabian feel. In my opinion getting a penny whistle opens a great world to a player. My Arabian whistle has its strength for what it gives. And is easy to play. I also offer other penny whistles in the major scale at eriktheflutemaer.com with tutorials. Regards, Erik
It is tuned in C in A440, the universal standard of tuning. Means when the note A vibrates at 440 vibrations per second it is the A the world says it ok to play together. People tune to electronic tuners and after that a whole bunch of people can play together. Hope that helps, Erik
You can play a Sax right? Same method. It helps to puth your cheeks It is a Challenging Instrument, but not impossible to play, and I'm confident you can master it. Also with the same amoun of Flinger whols you could imitate that like how you make a Whistle. The way of playing The Duduk is using your lower parts of your nuckles and then your pinkies fingers can cover the other two, plus the fhumb whole. It is a Facinating instrument and dates back to biblical times even before the time of Jesus when He first came into the World. From Flute Maker to Flute Maker. You have a awsome place for making flutes, I'd love to have a place where Bamboo grew like that. I live in a city but some bamboo grows near The River close, so I have some thing though, some one been cutting them down, I hope it the City lol.
Hi Joshua. The link above will take you to my Arabian Whistle page. Or go to www.eriktheflutemaker.com then to my Carbon Fiber link on top. Regards, Erik
