Man oh man, this video took way longer than usual to produce. I'm sure if you watch you will see sorta why. I am satisfied enough with it though. Shout-outs to Iceberg Tech, he rocks and his content is rather enjoyable sips tea but also, shout-outs to you for reading the description! I still am on schedule to release 3-4 videos really soon, so look out for those ones when they do release. Honestly, I don't have much else to say other than, that I am glad this video is done. I will say one thing though, I will revisit this card soon™ so be ready whenever I give me (hopefully) final thoughts on it. And yeah...

Kind of wish that there was a special edition Airbus version of the Arc A380. But yeah, the A380 fits a market segment that doesn't quite large enough for it.

Having budget cards require ReBAR and PCIe 4.0 was the dumbest thing ever, because for the longest time, the only systems that could handle both things, were Ryzen 3000 series on B550 & X470/570 boards, which are NOT budget build systems.

I found the bin references on this videos quite funny and really fits comsidering your channel name. The A380 issues people encounter is unfortunate but its a 1st gen product and the amount of hardware combinations of PCs the 1st gen Arc cards are being used/tested on is so much that I just applaud the driver devs for making them works across very different combinations of hardware.

I was working on a friend's computer and he had a x370 gigabyte board on the orginal bios from 2017. When i went to update the motherboard. Gigabyte had 6 different versions of this motherboard, and it took me forever to figure out which version he had before we could update it.

Honestly, I started to support Intel as the underdog by oddly choosing the a380 for an ultramodern lowend build (paired with g7400 Pentium). I didn't skimp on RAM, or storage - as I meant for this test system to become a real one. I used a business class motherboard, which - sadly - undersupported the DDR5 RAM but allowed me at least a bit above DDR4. Older games, those 2 cores/4 threads with the Arc? Well, yeah, they did it, sometimes well. Overall, it honestly seemed that the CPU was lagging in the sorts of games I was playing - cRPGs (like BG3, I had to go to my real system for that one... Owlcat's stuff, some really old shit). It did OK. I bought mine for around $100, little bit less, and it was fun. Not 980ti fun. Not Titan Black fun. But fun, like a 1050ti, yeah, like that ;)
@BudgetBin
@BudgetBin 6 месяцев назад
Yeah I think 1050ti fun would be the best way of putting it. Nothing crazy, but nothing to count out either.

Resizable BAR isn't one of those arbitrary requirements Windows throws at us every now and then, the GPU really does need it. AMD and NVIDIA GPUs still perform well without it because their driver architecture is using it as an afterthought; finding something to use it for to improve performance in some places they thought of. Intel didn't do that, because they wrote much of their driver from scratch after resizable BAR became a thing. They had the opportunity to use resizable BAR from day 1 and build it on the assumption that resizable BAR would be available, with some fallback solution if it wasn't available. Let that sink in for a minute. The same performance gains we see on Intel with resizable BAR is probably available to AMD and NVIDIA too if they were to rewrite their drivers from scratch. This is just a qualified guess but I think NVIDIA has the most to gain from it because last I checked their driver is very sensitive to CPU bottlenecks compared to AMDs drivers. Optimized memory buffer sharing might be just what NVIDIA needs to squeeze that last little bit out of their cards. On the other hand, AMD was out ahead on the implementation so they might be able to deliver on it sooner. Regardless, Intel is both the winner and the loser here. They win on the basis that they are way ahead on the competition on utilizing new features, but they are doing it at the cost of having computationally expensive fallback solutions when those features are unavailable. Who knows, maybe that will make them dominate the used market in a few years when those features are commonplace even in aged low end systems, or maybe they will always keep pushing the envelope and render their cards useless on anything but the cutting edge. Only time will tell I guess.
@BudgetBin
@BudgetBin 6 месяцев назад
I agree, only time will really tell. It really is a double edged sword and it could be the next best thing since like you said, with the used market getting slowly newer and better parts that support its architecture (motherboards and CPUs) we could see this becoming a great option, especially with the newer generations that Intel promises to bring.

I bought the Arc a380 with the intent to use it for 1440p60fps AV1 encoding paired up with my 7900XT (Since AMD's encoder's suck for recording and gobble up tons and tons of space) very recently did I need to RMA my 7900XT and I was left to use my arc a380 as my primary GPU for a few weeks. and with that, we gamed! Unnnntttiiiilllll I was constantly having significant frame time issues on CS2 of which lowering my Grapic's to 720P low did NOT fix. anything I did did not fix the stuttering and the issues I had with this playing CS2. which I found really strange that the frametime was god awful regardless if I had resizable bar enabled. regardless if I lowered my settings down to an absolute potato and got it running at 200+ FPS. Hell even swapping the PCI spot on my motherboard this card took to the big boy slot. the first x16 slot which I haven't done initially mostly cus I was really lazy and dint think it would effect the performance all too much. and to be fair it really really did not do anything as far as fps and frametime goes. All I could chalk this up to was CS2 just not being compatible with at least the intel arc a380. at least for me it wasnt. This card seems like it was designed more so for my specific use case I bought it for. the encoding... Cus oh boy... does this thing **encode**... Its really REALLY good for that specific use case. Though I dont see much value in it in any other use case imho. For gaming at least if I had to pick this over the RX 580. Im gonna pick that 580 any day of the week. (Iv also personally had that card when initally building out my system before upgrading to my 7900XT and it was a very stable and good experience)

I ran into a similar bios update issue on a gigabyte H97n motherboard, there is seperate bios updates for the Wifi Version and the one with no wifi, and mine is the latter. But it still has the MPCIE wifi card slot so all the circuitry and whatnot is still there, but when i tried to update using the wifi variant updatez it kept failing saying "mismatched bios" or something to that effect. Drove me insane for a day or two as well until i found the gigabyte support webpage for the non wifi variant lol

If it’s possible to find it cheap on the second hand market, it would pair well with streamers
@BudgetBin
@BudgetBin 6 месяцев назад
Something I definitely will talk and maybe test in the future with it is that exactly. Because if you got it for a sub $100 price tag, I could see it being a much better deal in that respect. Also, AV1 encoding seems to work great now that there is clear support for it, so I also agree with you on that one.

I have one in my system that I use daily and it has had no issues. I use it as a dedicated encoder for streaming as a second card so that my main GPU (RX6900XT) can focus on the games. So much better than dropping $1K on a new RX7900XT to have the same performance.

Was windows installed as MBR or GPT? I recently enabled ReBar on my Ryzen 3600 and 5700XT system and had to make sure Windows was in UEFI mode before doing so.
@BudgetBin
@BudgetBin 6 месяцев назад
This is something I do need to look into because it could be that windows is in MBR. At the same time that would be strange since I did a fresh install recently. If it is, it would explain a lot, but also be rather irritating to know.

@@BudgetBin Check with MSINFO32. It'll tell you if you are in Legacy or UEFI. If the drive was setup as MBR and CSM was enabled, Windows probably installed in legacy mode. If your install disk isn't UEFI, it can cause Windows to be installed as MBR as well.

It's so weird that the resizeable BAR is tied in somehow with the boot method. They should be totally separate functions. I don't know the exact details, so I might be wrong, but I feel like ASUS is to blame. I recently started to hate their BIOS too. I have an otherwise excellent laptop, still going strong at 7 and a half years old. When I had to disable XMP for the RAM because the timings were no longer able to be reliably met (can't tell if it's the RAM sticks or the IMC, but I had constant random blue screens and memtest revealed that it's RAM issue with bad timings) I was blown away at how bad the BIOS is. And I couldn't disable XMP or change the memory bandwidth/timings in any way, I simply was lucky that I still had the original RAM stick which had quite bad (slow) timings and I put that in and solved it like this. Then, several months ago, I had to disable Intel RAID so I can install Linux, and I was again blown away at how bad this BIOS is. Absolute bare minimum. I hate it!
@tommytimberlake9008
@tommytimberlake9008 6 месяцев назад
@@Winnetou17 CSM forces REBAR off because CSM requires the old school 256MB VRAM blocks for BIOS legacy support. You can't have CSM and REBAR because they are trying to accomplish the opposite things as far as addressing VRAM.
