No whip? Or revolver?! Just kidding. Love these. Keep ‘em coming. 😃

I am strongly of the opinion (coming from british archaeology) that for fragile finds one should never use metal tools. I have a lot of wooden sculpting tools for when excavating human remains, this means I don't have any chance of damaging them creating micro scratches. Same with lifting metal finds, something about metal on metal makes me shudder aha. Love the vid btw! really interesting to see the differences between my toolkit.

Indeed! We do have a special set for bone and other fragile remains. We did a dedicated video on this topic where we show them (in Italian), also in the thumbnail ;-): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fqLNc_Ox0pU.html Anyway, thanks for poining that out.

Thank you! I'm planning a novel and, instead of using flashbacks or just stating how past events happened, I thought archeologist characters would be an interesting take (both for the historical importance of the profession and to show how interesting it can be). Think was really helpful!

Very interesting video..Not an archaeologist, but have helped out on a couple of digs,and have a few of my own tools..One thing I would say is a necessity is knee protection. That could be in the form of knee pads, or my preferred option, builders/construction pants with the pockets on the knees to hold foam knee pads. Many of the youngsters on the digs relied of the provided foam kneelers, but IMHO, they are barely adequate on hard stony ground. ,

Indeed! Especially during long and/or precise painstaling excavation activies. Thanks for pointing that out!

Those trowels don't look much used. My "standard" trowel (like your middle-sized one) is half its original size after less than 10 years of excavations! I also find a "bucket trowel", which has a rectangular blade, useful for getting really clean sections

Just revisiting this very helpful video while getting ready for another dig...Does anybody know the model number for the 2 1/2" WHS trowel? Or is it simply a customised/ cut down 4" trowel?

What, no whip? You gotta have a whip. Indiana Jones had a whip, so you gotta have whip!!!

I used to love gadgets like this. Now, after twenty years in archaeology, I say that 75% is unnecessary. One treuel, brush, 3 small tools, including one wooden one. Everything fits into a resource belt designed for archaeology.

Points of view. No gadgets, only useful tools ;-) I am in my 25h year of work. It all depends WHERE you are excavating and WHAT.

You haven't been on any of the digs I've taken part in then unless, of course, you're one of those annoyig people who expect to borrow essential tools from someone who IS properly prepared for the excavation!

@@migranthawker2952 Unfortunately wrong on all points. I have my own brand of archaeology. I have employees and equipment for them. I have experience working since 2006, from Cardif to Rostov-on-Don. I lend equipment to someone and I have no problem with it. Think twice before you write something. Best regards and Merry Christmas

Is any certificate needed to be a archeologist sir?
@CAMNES
@CAMNES Год назад
Hey, good question. Well, you must have a degree to be considered an archaeologist and hold responsabilities (BA, MA, PhD etc) BUT there are several projects in which you can take place (paying or as a volunteer) in which you can do archaeological work.
