Kinahan Cartel kingpin Liam Byrne has been arrested on the holiday island of Majorca after slipping home from Dubai to meet his family.
The 42 year old is wanted in the UK on serious firearms and organised crime offences and will face extradition to the courts there.
The arrest comes after his lengthy career at the very top of the criminal ladder and marks the final blow to the once powerful Dublin branch of the Kinahan Cartel.
Nicola speaks to Niall Donald about the breaking news story about Liam Byrne's arrest and about his long history in violent crime.

Liam Byrne is not Stevie G's only link to the criminal world. His cousin/second cousin known as Uncle Bobby handed himself in 2014 after 3 yrs on the run over £60m importation. He got 14 yrs and should be due parole soon.

Jaysus he got of light enough for 60 million. Bomber kavanagh (Byrne's brother in law) I think just got 22 years for only a single shipment he plead guilty to. They don't mess around in England on sentencing, Ireland is now catching up now on huge sentencing as well. I think Stevie G likes having criminality around him. Needs to be careful though, he could be on that list of 600 the yanks have banned from entering.

Slippy is clearly not involved in trafficking but growing up in Liverpool and seeing the damage drugs do, he really is guilty of complete stupidity. You shouldn't have friends who are involved in killing and destroying communities with drugs. This will damage him and may even prevent him entering the US.

@@patkearney9320 it won't be the SCC. The Irish Garda don't mind that the Brits have him first. Apparently Byrne is one of the smartest ones and never ever got close to drug shipments, so they may have nothing there, it's guns the Brits have him on, still facing 20 on that though. Byrne won't set foot on Irish soil again till he's at least 60 years old.
