I recognize Andy Cheng as a prominent member of the JC Stunt Team, and as a world-class Tae Kwon Do athlete. Loved seeing him in a fight scene with Donnie Yen! Great stories from him about working with Jackie Chan and how he visualizes fights and camera framing: how he multi-tasks while shooting scenes! I agree that the less western directors interfere with the his fight sequences the better. Jackie just knows how to do action films! Awesome that Jackie also saved his life at one point! Also happy to know he worked on Into the Badlands and The Rundown! Now I'm so excited that Andy Cheng is actually involved with the Shang Chi Marvel movie!!! Superb episode, Scott!!! I was floored that there was a new one right after the Segal interview, and I'm not complaining!!!
Scott Adkins is awesome, for doing these wonderful interviews. Everytime I watch, I learn something about these men and women, I respect so much. For me, I grew up watching Martial Arts films and action films, so they mean alot to me, just like the individuals who are a part of it. Andy seems like a really nice guy. He has alot of knowledge, when it comes to Martial Arts, fight choreography and experience in the world of film making.👏👏👏👏👍👍 TERRANCE OUT
Once again Scott you bring joy to each of our Martial Arts loving hearts!!! This series of amazing guests and interviews is THE best thing!! Thank you mate!! 👍👍❤
I am a huge fan of jackie chan and believe he is one of the finest martial arts actors out of HK. but i am watching 'Art of Action' to learn more about the actors and stunt actors like Andy cheng who I know so little about and rarely get an interview opportunity in the western media. but i am starting to see the conversations more about JC and how good he was.
Interesting interview with Andy and fantastic insight in HK style of Jackie ACTION movie. Jackie choreographed on the spot as well as edit the action in his mind. Most great action movie does that...even raid director Gareth Evans does the edit on shoot on the spot but with a laptop.
Not a single dud in this entire series. Even people I've never heard of, like Mr. Cheng here, has provided loads of fascinating information into action filmmaking, behind the scenes, techniques and anecdotes. And I always come away with a movie or two I hadn't seen from the discussions. Thank you for doing this, Scott Adkins good sir. This might be my favorite youtube series, ever.
I always congratulate Scott for how much humility and passion he is showing with these interviews that they are a treasure for us passionate. I think it is a unique format of its kind. The only regret is that he only collaborated with Jackie on The Medallion (which was certainly not a masterpiece).
Another great episode. Thanks Scott for all the great guests you have on your show. You are a big name now. I guess everybody likes to have a lil chat with you. Looking forward for the next one.
Sir, you've done very very interesting discussions with top knoch stuntmen and fighters. In all of those conversations name Jackie Chan pops up. Can you do a one discussion with Mr. Chan?
Mr. Adkins please interview: Lorenzo Lamas, Bolo Yeung (with his son David to translate English to Bolo), Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Robin Shou (from Mortal Kombat 1&2)
Love all your interviews, Scott! Serious suggestion: get Master Ken for an imterview. He's the most underrated Martial Artist there is, except by bis students. Look up the Enter The Dojo Show here on RU-vid.
Oh wait what? this one is for Today! i though it was for next week!!! lol 2 interivews in one week, that's great! This means Mr. Adkins have a couple more under his sleeve .. or... maybe he'll be busy next week and won't have time to upload so that's why we are getting 2 now.
What a great interview. Would really love to see you interview Ernie Reyes Jr, if at all possible. He's a local legend here my in hometown in California.
Martial law came around midnight on Dutch tv. I was pissed off and sent a letter to the television station explaining that the show should be on prime time. I just stayed up and recorded it with the VHS.
Shang-Chi is going to be a genuinely great action movie if Andy Cheng is involved! I've often felt like modern superhero films lack the raw excitement from traditional action films that used to come out. I've always held the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films and Dark Knight Trilogy to a very high standard when it comes to the superhero genre, but Shang-Chi gives me hope
@@rushaholic in argentina in 2004 a friend share me a compilation video with his skills and tricks, unbelievable! The fight vs jackie chan in Gorgeous is so spectacular
I hope Scott would interview Brad. I really like the guy in Jackie's movies but I think he was really highlighted in Gorgeous. And he was the one that made me go, "oh, asians can grow bigger than white guys," cause I always thought when I was younger that caucasians were gigantic compared to me and other people I know.
Mong Cha Cha has a name tho... LOL. If you don't know, it's a term you can use to call someone unaware and oblivious in a bit of an endearing way. It can also used to describe a situation in which you cannot see something clearly (foggy, blurry, etc).
In ur show pls call Jackie chan,Donnie yen,Jet li, Matt mullins ,Mike moller,Daniel o niel, van damme,Bren foster, daniel o'neill, Tim man, Anis cheurfa,Marrese crump,Dan chupong.
Scott go and watch the martialclub youtube channel, make contact with them organise to make a movie then come back and find me to give me a role and some dosh. they make some really good action and comedy video's.
Andy said it really well, and exactly how it is regarding Who am I ?, the choreo's are on the spot shooting almost straight away, while nowdays you have pre viz workshops etc etc. days before, (so your mind can prepare for intense scenes) but jacky is realtime and Scott knows it as well, so yes first movie hard hard, lucky I could control, hold stop the legs else it could have been even dangerous with the speed Jackie is operating. Choreo and remembering is one, but then the rhythm and tempo is like another dimension added on top of this. Compare it with a beginning actor getting 5 to 8 dialogue lines 2 minutes before executing a scene with full emotions, memory of the lines and flow. This is what it does to the mind. We literally got 1-2 minutes rehearsing before executing these combos, then on top you have the crew, wardrobe, after each take who corrects your suit, make up touching you up, and you talking to yourself... ok ... next take... kick higher... little longer on the stop..... look at jackie after the last kick.... turn faster...... .. Then 20 seconds later you hear... 'ready and ...action...' This is how it is... You need all of these tiny details to get amazing fight scenes. Later after years and years doing it, you start to automatically do many of these, like driving a car..its embedded in your system *** Crazy thing is at the same time I lost my job, and the dutch stuntteam wanted to beat me up....as they wanted to do the scene, one of the stuntguys even stole my suit to show Jackie he looks better than me and could do it better... To be honest any movie after Who am I was relatively less pressure, as people know how it is to work with Jackie, thats also why Jackie is a master and his movies are amazing. If some very honest stuntman would speak out, even people who are in the business long time they even feel pressure, everyone has doubles, thats movie making. Jackie, hes a master, I would say grandmaster.. and my first real teacher in action movies and the best...Many thanks to him for giving me the opportunity !!!! *** I fought Scott Adkins himself in Ninja II, 20 years after Who am I ? and it was one of the most smoothest fights I ever did... it was a long take with some important timings and reactions (Dojo scene), Scott is great to fight, people who did can tell that !
@@GothamKnight84661 thank you so much, really action movies is my life, I was young I gave all I had. And never gave up, actually amazing things are happening as I always kept going, it was a little bit hard after the documentary my stunts, as I got bashed and it was slightly a twisted version of the story. Mostly the people who bashed me were the action people themselves who secretly wanted to fight Jackie. This business is a very complicated one. If they were in my shoes they would have felt it I can tell.. I couldn't do more it was a lot of pressure. So Yes Andy said it totally perfectly as it really is. And thank you of course... I always say - Life is Action
Andy himself has nothing but love and respect for his Dàgē. the fact that jackie chan jumped into the water while everyone else stood, watched and hid shows how much he cares about his crew. Regardless of his fortune and fame he risked it all to save Andy; this is an amazing story. Nuch respect Scott for bring Andy on the show, can't wait for Shang Chi now! Now get an interview with Andy On and Phillip Ng!
I recognise Andy's face but never knew much about him but he is really engaging and the story about how Jackie Chan saved his life is worth the price of admission!
I am so glad that you're asking so much about Jackie in a few videos so greaaaat! Born in 92 but Jackie was already famous in Europe and first movie I saw was Armour of God 2, still one of my favs ever
Don't forget the women: Michele Yeoh (of course), Yukari Oshima, Michiko Nishiwaki, and maybe Sophia Crawford and Kim Maree Penn. Sibelle Hu, Cynthia Khan and Moon Lee would be great too, but I've never heard them speak English.
When i hear the name of jackie chan, I get goosebumps, Big respect to the legend and to cheng... Love you scott... Keep bringing more... Your fan from india...
I hope that Scott Adkins interviews a whole lot more i hope he gets Wesley Snipes/Van Damme/Billy Blanks/Don the Dragon Wilson/Bolo Yeung/Jason David Frank/Ted Jan Roberts/Chuck Jeffreys/Chuck Norris/Erine Reyes Jr./Austin St. John/Robert Wall/Karen Shepard/Shannon Lee/Max Elliott Slade/Gary Daniels/Sho Kosugi/Michael Dudikoff/Jackie Chan/Jet Li/Donnie Yen/Sammo Hung/Michelle Yeoh/Robin Shou/Lateef Crowder/Matt Mullins/Jason Scott Lee/Hakim Alston/Taimak and Simon Rhee it would be freaking AWESOME i hope these people are on that freaking incredible list.
This is one of best videos to date and that is saying a lot. We get a closer look at the mystical animal called Jackie Chan. And Andy was able to give us an insight to how the great master works. Like Andy, I was disappointed they cancelled Into The Badland. The story was getting bizarre, but I still love the action sequences. I would have loved to see Scott in the show, but it would have blew up the budget and the series would have ended after one season... hahaha... Scott, "you are a big star"... hahaha... The last segment on how Jackie saved his life is amazing. It was sad and scary how close we were to losing him. I am surprised there were no divers around the boat to make sure everyone got back out after the shot. Great interview as always, Mr Adkins!
I remember years ago searching for who this guy was because I seen him in rush hour 1 and 2 and found out about all the work he’s done in his career. Andy is the man.
Maybe this is a Hint to the next interview with Jacky Chan it would be funny if Jacky does one of his own stunts and jumps in from the roof or top of stairs and says hi Scott, hi everyone, I made it ha ha!😂
Man, I would have loved to have seen an interview with Brad Allan. Tremendous loss - the man was a fantastic martial artist, onscreen fighter, stunt coordinator, fight choreographer, and second-unit director. Amazing. We miss you, dude.
Very good episode. The last bit was quite a story. Reminds me of a time when I almost drowned. Gonna have to check out that flick he was in with the blonde hair. Really liking the content Scott. Been updating the movies I need to see.
