In episode 40, Scott is joined by Olivier Gruner who has appeared in over 40 films and four television series and is best known for his martial art and science fiction action films. Gruner is regarded as an "action hero" due to his portrayal of Alex Raine in Nemesis (1992), Lt. Sean Lambert in the Interceptor Force franchise (2000-2002), and of Dirk Longstreet in The Circuit franchise (2001-2006). He also played Caution Templar in the film Mars (1997).
His credits also include the urban action movie Angel Town (1989), Automatic (1994), Savate (1995), Mercenary (1996), Savage (1996), The White Pony (1999), Kumite (2000), Blizhniy Boy: The Ultimate Fighter (2007), Lost Warrior: Left Behind (2008), One Night (2010), and Beyond the Game (2016).
As a martial artist, Gruner was a full-time kick boxer in France for 8 years from 1981 to 1988. He became France middleweight champion, then middleweight full-contact kickboxing world champion in 1985, and again middleweight kickboxing world champion in 1986.

@@golemraven7765 I think you are referring to "Cyborg Nemesis: The Dark Rift" which was an unfinished prequel to the Van Damme 'Cyborg' film, and was to have Gruner star in it. It is unknown if it will ever be released as director Albert Pyun retired and withdrew from the film.

Those fighting movies from 80's and 90's are really bad and cheesy. I liked them when I was a kid, but now the only reason to watch them is admiration for choreography, ma skills or physique of the actors. When it comes to script, directing, acting... they are really, really bad, but they definitly left a significant footprint in a movies history.
@tashadent150
@tashadent150 Год назад
@@smesh141 yeah, they were pretty terrible but now, they are like a guilty pleasure.
@smesh141

@@tashadent150 Yeah, that's true, but I think from that era Best of the Best is pretty good. It has some story, decent actors, it's something diffrent, more like sports drama than just brainless fighting, shooting and screaming without too much sense. But some of those movies are so bad and cheesy that's kinda fun to watch them XD.

Savate, Automatic, Nemesis and Interceptor Force were really popular on the TV in Russia when I was a kid, watched them so many times, really grew up on the Olivier's movies. Thank you for the great content, hope you'd have Mr. Gruner for an additional episode.

Thank you Scott for your great mission and labor of love. You're not only an awesome martial artist action star yourself, you have the decency and gratitude to do a RU-vid video series in which you track & successfully get to interview some if not all of the great martial artists and action movie actors that seemed to have been forgotten as the years past. I've been asking myself, as a martial arts loyal fan, practitioner and a fan of action movies, whatever happened to these great people that made us jump out of our seats back when action/ martial arts movies were in their heyday. Amazing acrobats, fighters and daredevils that brought excitement into our lives & made us want to learn the arts and take better care of ourselves, to meditate and become better people. I appreciate each & everyone of them for what they did for us & I appreciate you for the same reason and for these vlogs interviewing all these stars. In my eyes they still rock!! Please Scott, bring Chuck Norris, Sho Kosugui, Van Damme & Michael Dudikoff into this as well. 👍🏻🙏🏼🤜🤛

I too (like many) grew up watching martial related movies in the 80’s and 90’s and I have to say: “Angel Town” was the one. Not necessarily the movie per say, it was more Gruner Sensei’s abilities that made that movie what it was for me. Thank you very much for this interview…
