The Art of Marx Trains Part 5: Books, Price Guides, and Catalogs

As we celebrate Book Night at Dave’s, it seemed appropriate to share some of the Marx books I have collected over the years. The pocket guides are inexpensive and very useful. The Greenberg series are very good, but can be expensive. Old catalogs can be a great way to identify the years of manufacturing. I tried to be brief, but ended up with a documentary! Hope you find it helpful, as always, thanks for watching!

Dave Thank You, an extremely great collection of reference books! Grossman a great source for parts and actual complete rolling stock! Sometimes whole sets

as a kid marx trains was all i knew, and they remain my personal favorite today. i never had a lionel train set til i bought my first as a grown young man, dont remember the name of it, but it was a steam freight with a 2-4-2 steamer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide an overview of the various Marx publications. I have a much better understanding of the pros/cons of each publication. Thank you again for sharing!

Thank you oh so much for this video? I have Greenberg`s Guide to Marx Trains, Volumes I, II, and III, and had no idea how much more literature there was available. I`ll keep this video and treasure it. Thanks again, the Plunkerville R/R Marx guy. GOD BLESS.

I really loved Friday book night at Dave's! I've watched several of your videos running your trains and I enjoyed them. You're well spoken and have interesting topics. You remind me of someone else who I learned so many things about in my trade. I have been collecting Marx for 6 or 7 years ( I think maybe 8?) but have always had at least one HO set my whole life. I'm 56 now. I have 5 of the books you went through. I was missing GB vol 3 and got one this evening for 69.95 +s&h. The fall and winter catalogs took me back. I guess they're kinda like the books but they're not for sale but you love to look and want them printed on paper more so than an Amazon page. Hard to imagine printing and shipping two big catalogs out to everyone in a year. They must've chopped down half of Oregon for the paper😂 Thanks again and Happy New Year! Bob in Frisco

I had found out through the MARX community that kalmbach Publishing isn't going to be making MARX trains prices guides anymore they say I herd do to lack of interest in MARX trains which I call that bs Because most companies these days that do produce books and magazines on O gauge and O Scale trains only focus on Lionel when their is other companies that produced or still produce O gauge and O Scale trains And it's like these media companies are trying to promote Lionel As the monopoly When these media companies should be promoting other O gauge and O scale companies and not just promote Lionel

Dave is there a train show on the west coast that has lots of Marx trains? I only see one in West Virginia in June. Thanks!

Hi Bob, i’ve been watching for shows. There’s usually one in Eugene that has a lot of Marx and there should be a couple others in the Portland area. I’ll keep an eye out! Dave
