One of my Maori Bro's work in a meat freezer. He's been a butcher for years. The Filipino guys he works with showed him a different way.. He couldn't believe the difference in effort one cut instead of 5. Mostly he never needed to keep sharping his knife like normal. So I'd say your statement is correct 👍 And now U Finish da Bite😂
@@WreckingKrew00 That's not what I mean. I meant "slept on" as it is unpopular outside of the country it is practiced. If there was a league for armed combat, I think it would be one of the most feared styles. Wouldn't that be amazing if that did exist mainstream?
Well... it's used in a lot of movies.. especially knife fights ... People just doesn't know that there's actually a martial art/combat style like that.. Maybe to them its just a normal knife brawl
@S-TH I agree. Even though it's represented in many movies, they don't really mention, let alone, explain what kind of style it is. In fact, I don't know if I have ever seen a movie where the art itself is the theme.
@@Rekora_Wulf I am a brown belt in Hapkido and Kali is practiced in many cities and countries around the world. Here in New York City before COVID hit we had the NY Kali Academy now it's gone closed permanently. Many other martial arts have taken Kali techniques into their '"fold'. I personally know a few guys who practice the art and they're very good.
1All martial arts.KuguFu included had been dumbed down to an ART. Original KungFu was life or death and we don't teach THAT to our children, we teach the art of self-defense. NOT the art of killing.
@@kevinspencer7340it’s always been a kill or be killed world, life is just watered down. Self defense is killing if it ends up that way, might as well call it what it is. You think for an attacker it’s not life and death? 😂
To those taking little jabs a the instructor's accent, he's speaking english for us being nice. Because its the only language we know. Not for him tho.
I appreciate that he demonstrated the difference between the Art (martial arts) and the discipline of combat! Real Karate, TKD, and Kung Fu were made to kill. The art is what you see on tv. Because it’s beautiful. And for all those who said TKD couldn’t win in UFC, go check with the Champ.
I hate to tell you this but using Kung fu, TKD, and karate in a real fight besides maybe supplementing your style with it, will not work against a kickboxer. MMA is not an "art fighting style" that doesn't exist. All fighting styles from history were mostly made for efficiency in mind. Kung fu has AMAZING inputs for flexibility and fluidity, as do TKD and Karate. But in a real fight, a street fight, you aren't going to do a leaping butterfly kick and end the fight with that, I garuntee you will get the shit kicked out of you by someone who knows proper kickboxing or boxing in general.
@@cromwellfaller9774 no, not that I've seen. When two individuals square off no one commits to running into the other person. Similar to Aikido. It looks great, it's a nice dance but unless you have some drunk running at you blindly it doesn't work as it does in demos or movies
it's the same for sword fencing: countless parrying moves directly on the blade with your blade, instead I can hit the opponent's arm directly: I finish the fight and preserve the integrity of my blade
@@grimmontha8023 Kali is supposed to be used with two weapons in hand. If we have two swords, they can use the first sword to parry, and the second one to cut the arm. If it's just 1 longsword vs 1 shortsword, we clearly know who has the disadvantage... unless the one using the shortsword is very skilled.
@Rezzhuanne with all respect I do not know this martial art. My comment was that I interpreted it as (waaaay oversimplified): there is a weapon coming towards me, I don't parry the incoming attack but go for my opponents body instead and finishing the fight. In my mind there would still be a weapon coming towards me even though I disabled my opponent cause of momentum . I think this is where my misinterpretation lies.
Finally someone explains the difference between class and streets. Also...you're never fight a UFC fighter In Real life. All drunks or drug users. Angry. Movies give false ideas. The moves you se in movies never work in real life. In UFC fighting has rules. Streets don't. 90% chance your opponent is an Angry drunk w a gun. What then...especially now adays
The motions and idea behind this is that you can replace the sticks with knives, swords, machetes, etc and it would still apply. That's what makes Kali so deadly. In fact, they are encouraged to practice with sticks first so they can practice disarming and thrusting techniques without accidentally cutting off body parts.
You got a wrong real history start from hand fighting without stick, but they find that very advantaged if you extended your hand, so the use tools like, stick, knife, bolos, or anything you can find in the surrounding during the fight because this martial was mostly practiced during Japanese occupation in the philipines ww2 as pilipinos guerrilla movement operating all over the country.
So art is like weapon entertainment weapon that clash bang each other. While in combat its a do or die.kill or be killed.Whenever you see an opening you have to finish the fight.
That works maybe with sticks, but if katanas are involved and the attacker is super skilled… you better block that blade while you closing the distance or changing the angle of your counter attack. Putting the left arm as guard is a bad habit that will lead to some serious injuries
Real life combat is not like the movies There are now draw-out sword fights in reality, most melee fights is often decided in split seconds once the opponent is in range one wrong move and you are dead.
