I still remember my Venezuelan grandmother visiting us in the US when you couldn’t find Pan. She used to bring a bunch of packages during her visit. The first morning after she arrived and the baked arepas. OMG. My mother who was Cuban, had lived in Venezuela for 6 years and knew how to make arepas. We were living in Chicago at the time, she found a package of corn harina that was to make corn tortillas. Very different from Pan. We were so disappointed.

I always keep my arepa really simple: queso, hamon, y mantequilla. I left Venezuela when I was 1 and a half, but my mom brought her arepa recipe with her and my dad brought his tequeno recipe (which I'm not sure where tequenos come from but I love them either way)

Not long after I saw this video, almost a year ago, my aunt took me to an arepa restaurant. Wow! I love making new types of bread, so when we left, we went straight to the supermercado. I know just enough Spanish to ask for help finding my ingredients. We made black bean burgers and delicious arepas. I still don't have them perfect; they come out a touch too moist inside and they stick to the knife. But they taste amazing, so who cares? That summer, I also made pita and savory crepes for the first time.
I LOVE arepas!!!! I used to be friends with a venezuelan girl and we would make arepas all the time..... she moved :( we used to always put this delicious white crumbly cheese in them but I have no idea what it's called

In Costa Rica we have tortillas that are like basically arenas but you add flour , water and,cheese. It's basically an arepa with cheese but it's really good

I just recently found out that literally barely anyone knows what an arepa is I was trying to explain to my Cuban friends what an arepa is and it's hard to explain because it's just the best thing ever and has a Colombian Venezuelan girl who lives in Miami I eat arepas on a daily basis
My mom's arepas were always about half that thick with salt, butter, and cheese on top because I was picky and wouldn't let her put anything else on it XD Don't know if that's how Colombians normally make arepas, but that's where my mom's from, and I have to say I'm still partial to it. Granted, now I am MORE than willing to pile all sorts of goodness on top.
Yo le pongo queso al agua antes de echar la Harina Pan, así la masa que da con mas consistencia y tiene queso por sí sola, no hay que agregarle nada si se quiere, aunqie las arepas paisas son mis favoritas y están hechas solo de maíz molido
I am from Mexico we make something similar to arepa but instead of using corn meal we use flour and add sugar make them exactly like that and add the butter they are so delicious. Now I am curious to try them like this.

Hun, cada uno le agrega su toque y por si no lo sabías Venezuela hacía parte de la Gran Colombia y luego se separaron, pero desde la colonia española eramos un solo virreinato. Incluso dentro de Colombia hay muchas culturas que son completamente diferentes, los costeños son muy diferentes a los cachacos y a los antioqueños y a los llaneros y a los pastusos y a los del valle del cauca, y a Los chocuanos y hay cosas que son muy parecidas de nombre pero muy diferentes físicamente, las hayacas de la costa son muy diferentes a las del interior y al ajiaco, así suene parecido se hacen diferente y saben diferente, y aunque fueran iguales mucha gente de Venezuela vive en Cúcuta, por ejemplo, por eso ahí tienen casi la misma manera de hablar y cocinar, no por que intencionalmente nos queramos apropiar de todo lo de ustedes, de llama migración y globalización.
Gordon Morehead te voy a dar otro ejemplo con las pizzas, estan la pizzas hawaianas y yo no veo a los italianos quemando hawaianos en la hoguera por eso 😂 al final somos la misma gente y compartimos la misma cultura. Ya tu problema es puro orgullo y de ser siempre el mejor. Ellos tienen su arepa y nosotos la nuestra, así como también los mexicanos tienen su versión, etc etc etc...
Gordon Morehead claro que si campeon, todo es conspiración pa destruirnos a todos 😉 cada quien tiene su versión, pero a final de cuentas los tequeños son de los teques y las arepas comida típica venezolana, pero no nos podemos cerrar. Entre más culturas adapten la arepa a sus gustos, más el nombre de Venezuela va crecer, mientras tanto hay que mejor preocuparse de conceguir la harina que no está facil
No Hun, te entendí perfecto, yo solo digo que no intentamos apropiarnos de sus cosas y no todos todos los colombianos somos iguales, del mismo modo que no todos los venezolanos son unos vagos que no trabajan y viven del dinero que les daba el gobierno y por eso no tienen ahora para comer, por que NO TODOS SON ASÍ, pero así se han percibido por mucho tiempo. En los santanderes y en la costa se hacen y se comen cosas muy parecidas o iguales, yo le digo a los Tequeños deditos de queso, nadie en Colombia les dice Tequeños colombianos, solo los extranjeros diran cosas como esas o el internet (en donde no todo es verdad btw). So... no nos ofendas en general si no nos conoces a todos

Lol I'm studying abroad in Costa Rica right now, and the host family I'm staying with made "arepas" once, but here they're basically banana pancakes? Made with wheat flour, not cornmeal. My fam was like "Yeah we call these arepas and they're very popular but........probably don't call them arepas anywhere else in Latin America. Especially not Venezuela."
