The Artificial Minstrels - Anne and Laurens [Caribbean Tales] 

Anne and Laurens: It's time to introduce the only love song on the album-or at least the one that comes closest to it. Anne "Dieu-Le-Veut" was a fierce and formidable pirate active in the late 17th century. Born in Brittany, France, around 1661, she relocated to the Caribbean and became renowned for her courage and determination. Her nickname, translating to 'God wills it,' reflects her resolute nature. Following the death of her first husband, a fellow buccaneer, in 1693 she married Laurens de Graaf, the renowned Dutch pirate and privateer. Laurens operated mainly in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, where he earned a reputation for daring and successful raids against Spanish settlements and ships. Together, Anne and Laurens formed a powerful and dynamic partnership. Anne frequently joined her husband in battle, showcasing her bravery and combat skills.
