This video really hits home. I spend so much time trying to find references and images and then when I go to these sites, I get distracted by all these cool pictures and waste so much time on it when I could have been using that time to just draw and practice!

Bro you’re so right. My best friend is RU-vid for looking up content especially anatomical studies, but I often get caught up by watching a whole bunch of vids that deals with studies I need in the future but not at this very moment. Now I’m training myself to focus on what I need now because I’ve allowed this problem to keep me back for years.

Man this is so true. I usally try to cosume as many art stuff as possible (video tutorial, books, podcasts, etc) but at the end of the day feel so overwhelmed beacuse all the information I took and can't even remember. This reminds me that some times is better to just active airplane mode or just disconect my internet while I'm drawing and try to eat info wisely.

To be honest people (including me of course) we get discouraged because like what kuzo said. That when we see artists that draw admazing we tend to to get discouraged. Its part of being an artist im pretty sure every artist felt that type of way. Patients is key. I guess it indeed is just straight up the best to prevent overusage of the internet and social media, or learn to use it consequently. Overall, it’s exactly whats causing a lot of problems which aren’t even noticed. It’s definitely good to take a step back, how everything ‘used to be’. Without the internet and it’s temptations.

Time sinks are all over the place. RU-vid recommended is another one so I set my bookmark to only go to my subscriptions feed so I don't waste time clicking on random videos that have nothing to do with why I hopped on youtube in the first place. A lot of time people will just throw on music, a video, a podcast, or just about anything so they are doing something and this means hardly anyone is giving themselves a chance to slow down and think. Lots of action but little to no thought behind it basically.

The point Kuzo made with pinterest really struck me out of the blue because of how easy it is to stock up on pins and just all around get lost in the colletion. Its still a nice app and a good tool for reference but when in doubt its always good to shoot your own too. Amazing Arts and Progression! I hope im get to be as fortunate. No sense in just saying though its time to start doin!

Hell probably RU-vid and Instagram I love both and both have helped me find a lot of really good artist who have taught me a lot but and I thank it for that however, I feel like both distract me a lot or make me feel inadequate compared to others. I’m trying to make a more positive effort to not do that and try and be more positive with myself

I recently found that using an art book or some other type of physical reference instead of a digital one really helps. I was drawing violet evergarden and instead of scrolling down Pinterest for hours, I used the art book from the box set. I know physical references aren’t always accessible, but when you can I think everyone should give it a try.

There are actually lesser reasons why the internet is my enemy but the good reason is I know for most when it comes to finding inspirations I don't usually having hard times but indeed somehow and in the same time there are also challenges waiting for me and that's the reason it's also my enemy. Sometimes if not criticizing your work, you'll soon realize the hidden failure on your most priced work and as long as I can remember, one of the moments or scenes from my homemade mangas like the worst things the villain I made ever did, which I think it's (let's just say) cringe to anyone else.

tiktok and pinterest are definitely my best friends/worst enemies. i love saving all the amazing artwork i find on pinterest and i follow a lot of great artists on tiktok but sometimes i do find myself scrolling for hours 😅

What you are trying to explain is the reason I'm taking a huge break from drawing, to reset my way if thinking. I was spending 4 hours everyday average on searching and overthinking but not actually doing for a year. Don't do that guys, it can mess up your brain for real. It's okay to procrastinate for a day, take a break, whatever, but don't give wrong signals to your brain of what you are actually doing. Scrolling pinterest for 4 hours isn't considered drawing, so when you say to yourself to go to draw, then just draw, don't spend more than 10 minutes on pinterest, set a limit.

I spent 6 months taking a break from art because I was so obsessed with watching tutorials etc for hours or even a whole day snd feeling exhausted. This led to me feeling like I can't draw and comparing myself to other artists. When I took the break I spent time doing other things I liked which took my mind of it. I'm back now and I don't give about how low my art level is to others and I'm drawing more now and have improved more than the time I was stressing days on end. Your comment made me laugh looking at the mess I was before it can throw you off mentally. I was considering going to a therapist anyways☺.Try to take it easy and not stress too much about it you'll improve if you stick to it. If you hit a block just go back and see what needs work. I want to continue drawing, but I stopped a couple of years ago. I truly want to draw again, but I don’t even know where to start, and how to tackle the challenges ahead of me. Right now I’m in college studying criminal justice, but truthfully I am unhappy and can’t get art out of my head. As of now I’m coloring manga panels and LN illustrations in order to alleviate that itch. I’ve been told that I have no future in art and I won’t be able to do it professionally, but I’m not seeking work, I want to express myself, and show people something unique about myself.
