Asgore main here, [#1 leaderboard] While Asgore may be one of the easiest character to counter, you may have to rely on letting rage buff you. Asgore is a punisher class, not a tank. [Even with his high HP, still takes a lot of damage] you want to rush your opponent's stamina. May have to use raw 4 to keep em moving. Be sure to melee cancel your trident 1 from time to time so they fall for the bait. As for Story shift's phase 1, orange and blue knives, you can hold the W key while downed and gamble which colored knives go first to avoid them to combo extend, then punish it with a move. A lot of players hide behind blocking when fighting Asgore, if they want to be passive, let em, as long as they knocked you back last, take advantage of the rage, max rage prevents your stamina from draining! [For a long while, as their stamina drops much faster, and do less damage to you] Hope this helps! P.S. Avoid mirrors. They tend to be randomized results. Be sure to use fire 4 more often after a full melee. Full melee, T1 then F4. I'll happily give anymore tips if wanted!
Appreciate the advice, I was being told me switching to a more passive playstyle was my downfall against that jevil (Even though it was less me playing passive and me just basically giving up because he was boring to fight), so I guess it's situational. I'm aware standing and waiting isn't necessarily passive, but most players do it to the point where it's just passive, so it's easy to conflate the two. The thing about asgore though, is he's literally the only character that has to crutch on rage like that. Sans is also technically a "punisher" (even though he's labelled as a rushdown) and bro can literally beat your ass, rage or not by playing aggressive. It just seems unfair to have asgore be like this when literally every character does what he does in some way better. If he did more damage it'd be justified, but his damage is mostly eh.
@theeffortfighter sans users mostly playing zoner is by far one of the worst things ever to deal with. Can't outzone him. Can't even gain rage out of him cuz he can damage you with hyper armor making him tank all the damage you throw at him while he damages you. But there's a technique that Asgore [nearly anyone can use], but makes him much better. Jump cancels, jump dashing forwards as your using a skill mid air. Allows half stamina Fatal Fire Trident 5s possible. As much as I hate how weak Asgore is in 90% of the fights, I'm usually looked down and harassed because I "didn't earn my title for being first for Asgore" when they haven't been in my shoes fighting every character/player that counter picks to fight me. 40% of those players lose, the other 60% just play like wusses. Every Frisk I see, literally jumps me. 90% of them do, just to be passive. Believing it's a free win. But they don't know all my strats. I've landed locked off raw held 4s on them. And it's hilarious!!! I've saved many clips of my lock off predictions on my side, putting them together into a video.
@XaivierRogers-Jones So funny Enough, Asgore's major flaw is lack of approach. The best you are forced to do at all, is play passive back. As boring as it sounds, it's the best Asgore can do. So best way to play passive, is after your opponent has finished their combo, and knocked you back last, let the rage kick in as much as possible. The more it activates, the better it becomes. Then when you're at max rage, you can freely start running around your opponent without stamina drain. Use trident 4 [raw] to get them to waste stamina. Also note, moves like Asgore's fire skills don't deal knockback, so you won't get rage debuffed for just using fire 4 and/or 1. I highly recommend you dont use this strat on a Sans. But if playing like this isn't your style, the only other way is to get close to your opponent, and use trident 1, 3 or 4. Sometimes if your opponent is super agro, you can run up to them and counter. Higher up players will try to dash melee, so no clash occurs. So it's possible to use a raw counter by running up to them.
Hi top 7 (as of writing) SSC player, To break past a zoner SSC (fun fact, its a rushdown not a zoner people are just stupid), Just keep applying pressure, if your asgore keep using fire moves safely and chip away at their dodge, once wounded just start punishing HARD, phase 3 can't do much without getting a LMB off and fun fact, held R is blockable. Sorry for the first ssc's stupidity he is not one of us if he plays zoner ssc.
@@thefunnydragonguy Oh I'd take your word on it regardless, and yes I know they are supposed to be a rushdown. The reason I call ssc out for being "the biggest zoner in the game" is because her kit is unironically the best for zoning. i'd say sans is, but his moves don't track you and none of them except blaster 2, bones 4 and tele 1 deal knockback or stun. Also most of the sscs I've fought against play like zoners for the most part, but I'll be fair and say it's the same for sans.
@@theeffortfighter Basically, SS Chara's kit was designed to be combod together, hence why they have slow startups lol. its just people refuse to play anything other than passive, hence why passive play got gutted
The first fight versus SSC, I noticed you got punished a lot for using trident 1. I recommend canceling trident 1 if it won't land and cause you to get punished for it. You can also hold trident 1 to force your opponent to waste stamina.
Here's the thing, trident 1 has a weird hitbox where sometimes it should hit and it literally just passes through them (for the ssc specifically, if you see 3:45, it does exactly that). I kept throwing it because it's the most reliable combo starter asgore has, and I was under the impression that they were gonna push me like the usually would.| Looking it over again, it does seem they were constantly waiting for me to throw trident 1 so they can get a free punish, but then again, I hate fighting this character and it was boring as hell to fight them so I basically stopped trying, especially when I knew they had 1 more phase that I wasn't beating. Cancelling has the issue where you can be punished for cancelling if you cancel right as someone hits you, and in sscs case, they can knock you down faster than you can throw it if you decide to.
You were too passive against the jevil. Jevil can easily catch people off guard if you play too passively. To win you could have baited him into counters, or caught him by surprise with perfect dashes. Jevils second phase is def a counter to Asgore so you’d have to play more unpredictably
You right, honestly I did that as a reaction to how they were playing and the fact that my trident 1 would constantly pass through him, I basically fucking gave up trying.
@@theeffortfighter Yeah the hitboxes change when they're up close now, Like for long shot kind of moves (frisk gun 1/gtc justice 1 held) and whatnot, I'd say the best time to use a trident 1 is when the Jevil is using it's first phase 2nd skill, first phase 3rd skill, and when the jevil's close to you and has already used up his M1's trying to hit you (cause it takes like only 4 hits to knock down which is why the jevil splits up their m1's between dashes to catch u off guard). Jevil's second phase hits INSANELY hard so they'll be really focused on trying to hit you, In that phase you can easily get counters off and combos
@@Yuujiji I will try, thanks for the advice, anything for ssc? I doubt it considering basically every character struggles with ssc, but if you got anything, I'll take it.
@@theeffortfighter for ssc as asgore, just abuse your superarmor knockback moves or t1, and use fire 3 at the end of the usual lmb combo, bc it picks up and deals decent dmg as a finisher, if anything, asgore is the counter to ssc bc of fire dmg from most of his moves. And try to not cancel t4 if you don't have some distance between you and whoever you're fighting, not sure why it has end lag when cancelled, but ye, and there isn't many punishes for t4 bc superarmor. And sans is the most annoying one to fight bc insane range + hyper armor + highest def stat in the entire game i think + kr dmg is just a better fire dmg
I mean to be fair when you have shit ping like that all the time you learn to account for it, with me my shit can be like 40-110, so I'm getting a pretty consistent experience most of the time and expecting certain things to happen.
I wouldn't if it didn't require relying on Asgore's bad lmb. Also asgore is a punisher, depending on how it's done you're supposed to raw moves. Also at least half of those would of hit if the hitboxes worked.
