People mad that Yasuke is being portrayed as a Samurai, but have no issue with the implication that George fking Washington was connected to the assassins and the British army were templars. “BuT rEALiSm.” As if any of the historic figures depicted in AC were actually assassins and templars.
wow it’s almost like they took a historical figure and used the lore of the games to tie them in. it’s not like they said George washington was secretly a bodybuilder who ripped apart red coats and was actually a skilled marksman that the british feared
@@person2795 yeah, they have him as a normal person and then adds abilities for later in the game as the story goes, you don’t start the game and permanently have the pope flying in the background
It’s sad that ppl waste time arguing if yasuke was a samurai or not. Bruh no one cares if he was or wasn’t. They don’t care about accuracy. They only care that he is black and they’re racist. There are plenty of games about non Japanese MCs and protagonists based in japan. Racism isn’t based in logic. It’s based in hate. There’s no way to win a racist argument because racism isn’t based on anything except for delusion and prejudice.
I disagree, i see your perspective though for sure but i'd argue that forced diversity is just as a bad as racism. For example black panther was a great movie but on the chinese poster disney decided hide the actors face. these companies do not care about race or diversity unless its profitable. theyre literally using diversity to their benefit and will fold on it the moment it loses them money. (maybe assassins creed is different tho)
I don’t think people hate black people by saying that it’s a weird choice of main character, especially when people disagree of the status of said character. I personally would feel weird if an Asian played the main character in a Viking game or a white person as the main character of a black history game. Also people play these games to experience a specific romanticised era and they don’t want to be taken out of said experience by having a main character that goes against the norms of the time and place.
It’s not racism. Well maybe from some people. But this is the first AC set in Japan. If the first African set AC game had a white main character in a lot people would be mad AF. And they wouldn’t care if it was a historically accurate white character either. The whole reason people look at it through this lens is because the increase of the cultural appropriation talk over the years that primarily came from a specific group. A lot of people are inconsistent and hypocritical. If everyone just enjoyed stories and media for what they were it wouldn’t be an issue. This type of talk didn’t start here.
Because the anjin was also a real person and was represented accurately based on a novel written about him... Yasuke was not a samurai. We dont know how the story or events of the game will portray him though so most people are arguing out of concern because of how other companies do things.
Gamers will look you dead in the fuckin eye and say that that black protagonists are the real problem with modern gaming, while completely ignoring that the game is *120 FUCKING DOLLARS*

@@77_ACE. Playing ignorant as if the woke agenda isn't wide spread. It is bad btw, taking over franchises and making them into what they aren't, ruining them, and causing internal strife between people. This leading to a distraction from other politics getting sneakily by, destabilizing the actual unity of the country, and making more people AGAINST inclusivity seeing as it is being used as the reason to CAUSE the ruin of things they care about. We even have schools going AGAINST what is best for students by giving them propaganda to fit their agendas and firing teachers that support/teach how to think for yourself which is the best and healthiest way. a 6'4 dude in massive armor who pledged his life to oppress the peasantry being an assassin in a country where everybody would immediatly notice him is the wild part here
@binroussi if you watch the game play trailer the creators of the game say the girl is the assassin character. Yasuke's character is not an assassin in this game and his character build is not based on stealth. The girl character will be the stealth based character with the hidden blade. Basically the two characters will be built to support two different play styles to provide different experiences to the gamers.

It’s honestly just racism, I know the word gets thrown around a lot especially on Twitter but this is the most blatant example of it, They didn’t keep this same energy with Nioh? Which had a white man as the main character in a feudal Japan setting? Who may I add didn’t actually because a samurai until years later after the events in game and irl, so not only is it historically inaccurate but also “takes away from Japanese representation” if we wanna use these peoples logic. And again to throw it out there to the not so intelligent people saying “he wasn’t a samurai but a retainer” Look up what a samurai is…because they are literally the same thing, “Samurai (侍、さむらい) were the hereditary military nobility[1][2][3][4] and officer caste of medieval and early-modern Japan from the late 12th century until their abolition in the late 1870s during the Meiji era. They were the well-paid *Retainers* of the daimyo, the great feudal landholders. They had high prestige and special privileges.”
Pretty sure they aren't the same thing btw, they don't really have a word for it in japan. Samurai were the nobility of similarly to knights. From what I am to understand from an actual Japanese person that I would assume knows more than use, is that he was more of a respected foot soldier than an actual samurai of nobility. Not that this is even the point that should be argued... Its very stupid. I get mad about making characters just for diversity as well, but that isn't the case for AC Shadows. Yasuka was badass and is a real historical figure in feudal Japan and there are many stories about him, so for that reason it won't make me less immersed when playing and exploring the world of Feudal Japan which I am sure will be extremely beautiful just like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhallas worlds were and that's something AC is very good at.
But AC has never once had a real historical figure be a mc why because a big theme of the creed is your in the shadows your name will be forgotten by the masses. And you know damn well it's for brownie points. Was Yaskuke pretty talented yes but we know barely anything that suggested he was this legendary samurai that Ubi is claiming he irl was. And guess what the expert they hired is a pedophile not talking anime or fiction straight up real little boys. And some of the sources are literal fairytale written about him that the book it self claims is probably not true.
People don’t understand how racist these other countries can be too sometimes because for you to be mad a American game franchise chose to add lore that many of us would know besides the Japanese culture shows they don’t even want to appreciate they even have a game being made for them. You want your own characters, your own story, your own this and that. Make the game yourself or go play ghost of Tsushima or some shit like let them make the game and play it if you like it. I skipped like 4 AC games because it wasn’t fun anymore and I still look out for a new one but this beginning the drama instead of the gameplay shows it’s racism. Mirage had a shitty preorder and so did the last 3 before that but no mass dislike ratio? The pre order bundle had a lot and as you can see it also has a season pass so it seems the game is going to have a lot to offer not sure if it’s worth 130 though but I’m glad they have the excuses around the racism never can be brave with it what a shame. Edit: my bad I wrote a lil paragraph but this coming from a long time AC fan I used to play 1 - unity after that I didn’t like syndicate and the other too much but I played them a bit. But this the truth and to bring hate to places we escape from negativity please go find something to do with yourself. Become a real samurai yourself then and find love in your heart edit 2: also my bad they are located in Europe but regardless it makes my point they are not native to Japan. They are not going to know everything about your culture or tradition but the fact they applied their resources to doing so.
So you wanna play as a gay samurai? real AC fans just want classic assassin one playable character not a lgbt off brand ghost of Tsushima, I even thing AC syndicate was ass with the two switchable characters I only played as the girl cuz her outfit was an assassin outfit not a stupid suit with a top hat
I'm part Japanese. I hope to introduce a different perspective on the problem. Racism is obviously wrong. However the arguments about this has constantly been devolving into "race." It's annoying because race has no relevance. I was happy with the protagonists of Origins, Liberation, and Freedom Cry (All characters of African descent). But wanting a fictional Japanese man playable in Japan is racist and asking too much? Everyone is focusing on the wrong thing, skin color. Consider a game set in the Mali Empire, and the protagonist is a British or French man simply because he was there, accompanied by a Mali woman. It's not about accuracy or fiction. Assassin's Creed is historical fiction, but that would still be disrespectful, no? Don't bother with the Nioh or Last Samurai "defense." I am against it, and there was a backlash. People were blind to it. How racist of them to ignore it, right? Maybe racist people are being the loudest, but that does not justify ignoring the muffled cries of those who actually care about their culture and how it is represented in western made media. Obviously, Japan can choose who they want, but a foreigner choosing for them is a different story. It requires a degree of respect. Sengoku era has a hundred year history and instead of creating the male protagonist like every other game, Ubisoft inserted a real life foreigner who was there for about 3 years. Not as a cool supporting role like DaVinci, Cleopatra, or Blackbeard, but one of the main playable characters. Yes, if he was European, Chinese, Arab, I would still be upset about the strangely motivated decision. But is that racist to be confused by foreigners having a big part of Japanese history be represented with a foreigner? In one of the videos the developer said something weird like how you are a foreigner exploring a foreign land through Yasuke. This is Japan, not Mars. We are not unrelatable aliens. Japanese eat, sleep, poop like anyone. This isn't about skin or race, it's about how this billionaire company, Ubisoft, direct their French/Canadian developers to not give Japanese people (seemingly the men) the same respect as the cultures of their other games. Why are Egyptians, Arabs, Greeks, Italians, French, etc worthy of respect and being treated as people, but a Japanese man is not worthy of the same respect? Are we not people? If you understand Assassin's Creed, then you know this decision is strange and discrimination against Japanese men. I am against Ubisoft's disrespect, not this shallow skin color argument. I will be picking up the torch with you if Bayek was a Roman instead. Please try to understand.
The Japanese consistently butcher Western European history for a variety of their fiction and entertainment, nobody cries about that. It's a fictional game, about magic apples, a secret millennium spanning conflict between 2 fictional organisations inspired by history and fiction alike. This is equal to being upset at Warhammer 40K for having the White Scars.
Ngl they could've at least given AC fans a Japanese male Samurai and made Yasuke a DLC. There are many Japanese samurai that people could know about like Hojo Soun or Sanada Masayuki
Simple, AC is fictional fantasy. They generally stick to a historical setting and accuracy, but add a twist for the fun sake of having a secret war in the shadows throughout history. Those magical artifacts being generally the tool for why the war is happening. It is a real world history with a fantasy conspiracy underneath. At least that is usually generally how it has come off until they started going woke... Most AC settings have had reasonable representation. This one was just too obviously a woke agenda with using a female and one of very few black males from japanese history, and even supposedly making them gay? Everyone wanted this setting, and it had great potential with ninja/assassins using characters like hanzo and even kunoichi (female ninja). Instead, they say fk it all, just go full on woke and not get any of the awesome possibilities they could have went with... People are just tired of the obvious political agendas being shoved so blatantly in front of them, and fully 180 changing the series they are in...

Some of them totally missed the point. We did not hate the fact that Yasuke exists on the screen, we hate the fact that is was so clear that they have an agenda that affected the decision making. All the other games the MCs were never based on a historical figure. It's not about the terrible timing to make a change LMAO it was planned. It should have been BOTH Japanese man and woman who get the spotlight **AND let black people shine in some settings else that is MORE SUITABLE! I wouldn't mind!!** Also, in the age that games are political, IF they want to make a DIVERSITY, then they should have included A JAPANESE MAN too and I wouldn't even care if you make it three playable characters! @@RagnarLoudpakNihoh is a game that's completely wild and silly to a degree that has not tried to be realistic. Yea Yasuke was in it as a side character with minimal impact if I recall.
I legit just don’t want to play as a samurai. Im cool with Yasuke there. I just want to only do Ninja combat and I think you’ll be forced to play as both for the story.
Ppl mad cos of yes its a black samurai but why not a Japanese samurai, in AC origins its Egypt so an Egyptian assassin, AC Odyssey is Greek so Greek assassin, AC Valhalla has a Northern assassin, but an AC game in Japan has black mc. I understand the frustration cos if they made the male mc white shit woulda been just as hated. People just wanted both counterparts to be from the same ethnic depending on their land. Another argument on Yasuke is people are saying he wasn't a samurai. The whole female mc is dumb if ppl really have a problem with that they should've complained long time ago cos they been doin it for quite some time now. Overall trailer looks cool but its CGI, no gameplay so i dont care bout what i saw.
I think that most people complaining is thinking like that and in many cases it kinda makes sense, as it wouldn’t make sense if Valhalla had an Asian main character.
But the claim of the native origins of the protagonist is irrelevant because there is a native that is also the main character, and even in ac3 it was a brown native american not a white colonist set in a time of american colonization
Bruh you literally play as Scandinavian conquerer in Anglo-saxo in Valhalla 😂and Welsh born British in the Caribbeans you play as an italien in Constantinople might as well the keep same energy 😂😂
@giosbizarreart9048 Personally, I feel like there's a way to tweak it where you get the best of both. For instance the Mayan armor from AC 4 and Ezio's outfits are pretty good examples of bulky yet fitting the bill.
@@park9408I doubt that the fans are mad because of one of the characters are female as many fans were disappointed in Ubisoft for scrapping or making them an optional choice in prior games
im so tired of these goddamn culture wars bruh, people werent so pissy about everything(both sides) years back. Im playing a samurai game? Cool. mc is black? I'll learn about the historical person he's based on and then like the game even more. Even people who might not be racists but are in the whole anti woke shit make it their whole M.O. to join backlashes such as these. I hate keyboard warriors bruh the internet needs some desperate cleansing
I mean I understand why Japanese people aren't happy about this. Imagine being a huge fan of the games and you find out that the series finally gets to your culture and does this.
The beginning of the assassin's creed games litterally say Work of Fiction. In one the thy AC games Abraham Lincoln worked with Aliens to take out thy Illuminati. You don't look to AC for historical accuracy.
for the white and black foreigners. i will make it easier for you to understand what a samurai is. a samurai is a noble warrior from a noble family that serve a royal family. it is the equivalent of a knight for you westerners. just because a japanese person is holding a weapon, it doesn't mean he is automatically a samurai. just like in western culture. there is a big difference between a knight and a foot soldier or a mercenary. just because a white guy is fighting in a war in the medieval era it doesn't mean he is a knight.
Even if he is a retainer he still had to learn the swordsmanship of a samurai in order to be a retainer he also gave military service I’d consider him a samurai I highly doubt they’d hire a man with no type of fighting capability I don’t think he magically knew how to use a katana. he had a learn from a Japanese man assassins creed games never been 100% historically correct I can literally give you an example from every assassins creed game
@@HANASANAChannel not undercover, but literal. Oda Nobunaga said that he had strength of 10 men, so they must've put him to test. He was given his own short sword, meaning that Nobunaga had a lot of trust in him. He was being paid a stipend for carrying his lord's weapons, protecting him and doing other shit that was normal for samurai back then. He fought with a katana at Nijō Castle, so he knew something about swordsman ship.
The AC3 trailer showed a Native American assassin single-handedly assasinating a British officer, who is also a Templar, while George Washington, implied to be working with the assassins, watches it all happen. No complaints. But a black samurai? “Noooo, he was only a retainer!” Insane lmao
White folk mad over a black samurai is the most ironic thing I’ve seen in the last decade . If only we got Tom cruises we probably wouldn’t be hearing anything
Rage the same thing happens when White protagonists are depicted in predominately Black settings, remember the reaction the rap industry had towards eminem? what did Charlamagne say? even eminems movie 8 mile received negative reviews for supposed "appropriation". So why you acting like "AHHHH ITS BECAUSE HE"S BLACK THIS WOULDNT HAPPEN IF HE WAS WHITE"...when it already has. Yasuke although he was historically a warrior in japan is rejected for his race by the gaming community. So was post malone, and eminem, and g-eazy, and mgk, simply for being white, were rejected as being "true rappers" by a huge population of the black/american demographic and hiphop industry. so no, this type of thing isn't just exclusive to black people.
It’s kinda ignorant to assume it’s just about skin color or race considering the past few assassins creeds have been dogshit and all the fans have wanted was to return to its roots
@@ka-qn3ub its a trailer and its Ubisoft. Yall really think the game is going to be amazing just because one of the main Mcs is a black dude? They could put muhammad ali in a AC game and it would still be trash because thats what ubisoft been doing for the past 8 years at this point, their trailers are always cool, the games are not. You could not point a gun at me to make me play a recent AC game let alone support that dogshit company, they could make a AC game in Brazil that would let me explore all of my country history i would still not pay because i guarantee you, its going to be bad. What triple AAA company has released a good triple AAA game recently? NOT A SINGLE ONE, Larian Studios slapped them with Baldurs Gate 3, a actual good game, Fromsoft RKO all of the western game studios with Elden ring.
I don't give af about the fact that the main character is black, race doesn't matter to me unless it's a race swap for an already existing character. i'm mad because the higher ups at ubisoft don't give the devs enough time to make the games good. They also revealed the price before a gameplay trailer 😭 Also i completely forgot that AC mirage even exists and it wasn't even a year ago it came out.
The real Yasuke wasn’t exactly a samurai persay he was more like the feudal lord’s or the heir’s bodyguard. Anyway, who tf cares abt realism in one of the AC games you can literally throw hands with the pope.
