#OnThisDay, October 19, 1986, barely two years after the launch of Newswatch, Nigeria’s first news magazine, its Editor-in-Chief, Dele Giwa, was gruesomely assassinated with an unprecedented letter bomb at his home in Lagos. He was just 39.
To this day, Giwa’s killers remain unknown; and his family and loved ones are yet to get justice. #HistoryVille

First to comment. OMG! I never knew that was exactly what happened to Dele Giwa. No matter how long it takes, God in his infinite mercy will surely prevail one day. His geniued Spirit will continue to linger in the heart and soul of his killer or killers. They will continue to suffer the pain of their guilt and their generations alike. Take it or leave it.

I hope those that killed Dele Giwa think then that they will remained in power forever or that they will never die, unfortunately unknown to them that Dele will be waiting for them at the other side as a landlord and superior. As a young man in my twenties then, i and my friend roommate had a newspapers vendors that normally delivered to us at home regularly weekly edition of Newswatch Magazine, because it used to be hot cake then, which had it office situated at Oregun Road, Alawusa Ikeja, now known as Kudirat Abiola way, in the same compound with a branch of UBA Bank where i had an account then. That was the best era of investigative journalism in Nigeria, until now that God gave us again, the young man known as, DAVID HUNDEYIN, may God protect and keep him alive wherever he his. Dele Giwa you lives on in our memory that knows and witness your days and works.

There is only one party in Nigeria; “Chop-chop and clean mouth” party. I am in my 50s and lived through Giwa’s assassination, Ken Saro Wiwa and Ogoni 9, MKO’s murder, Kudirat Abiola’ murders among other sad unnecessary bloodshed. Anyone who was a governor for 8 years in Nigeria is part of the establishment. I’m 🇺🇸🇳🇬 with zero political affiliation or ethnic sentiment & don’t care for Bat or Cat or Atik or Po. Fela described all of them as the same. Gideon Orkar coup was a missed opportunity to reset Nigeria.

Dele Giwa without University education got a job in Barclays bank and others .. before then using the money hr had earned to further his owm education further.. Nowadays, even a Graduate with a Master's degree cannot get a job due to the terrible state of NIGERIA economy amd it's leaders Tragic 🇳🇬

The reason it is still a mystery is because his killers are still alive and trust me, they are still powerful in Nigeria today. Sane goes for the killers of Ken Saro Wiwa, Bola Ige, Funsho Williams, etc.

The second tier foreign exchange market over which Dele Giwa was killed caused the dual naira exchange rate and passing of CBN passing money to northerners to sell at parallel rates. Something that caused the co start decline of the Naira. Gen Zs need this channel so urgently instead of their co start shallow talks. The military feared college students and journalists back then as we were not timid or docile nor talked “yansh & sex”. NANS was impactful like American college kids are currently protesting the wars.

American police is now about to prosecute the killers of Tupac after almost 3 decades,we are still saying "who kill Dele Giwa. And also,the killers of Marshal Harry,Bola Ige and a prominent politicians from Lagos are walking and talking freely.
