The Assignment (1997) - Interrogation scene
The Assignment is a 1997 spy thriller film directed by Christian Duguay and starring Aidan Quinn in two roles, Donald Sutherland, and Ben Kingsley. The film, written by Dan Gordon and Sabi H. Shabtai, is set mostly in the late 1980s and deals with a CIA plan to use Quinn's character to masquerade as the Venezuelan terrorist Carlos the Jackal.

This movie was such a thriller that deserved to be a big hit. Aidan Quinn's career mainly consists of Indies or supporting roles, but he showed such promise as an action lead in this one.

3:29 This is the moment Ben Kingsley figures out something is wrong. That the real Carlos would not react like that. Fine piece of acting on his part. They also accurately portrayed american attitudes. Start out playing dumb(when you think some enemy caught you) then get angry(when you realise its an ally) finally threatening to sue.

One of my favorites from the 90’s. It just popped up on my Netflix “Recommended For You”, as well! Quinn proved you didn’t need to be a buff, cut up Van Damme, Stallone, or Arnold to be a believable action star. Later on, average actors did the same and made millions (Liam Neeson, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Bob Odenkirk).

Aidan Quinn was so convincing playing both dual roles of hero and villain as Carlos the Jackal and Annibal Ramirez. He was great at both in this film. This is the only movie he played both hero and villain. He played some great bad guys in stakeout, unknown with Liam Neeson, etc. And played great heroic characters in practical magic, blink 1994, legends of the fall, desperately seeking Susan, etc.
