It was scheduled against CBS’s Sunday night block of comedies. While I don’t know which series it went up against directly, CBS had Archie Bunker’s Place, One Day at a Time, Alice, and The Jeffersons on that night. Critically, the show did very well.
How can a show that has B.B. King performing its theme song not succeed? I watched it every week, along with Taxi and Barney Miller. The 'Seventies weren't a golden age for much, but for sitcoms they certainly were.
