The reason why we haven't send a space probe to 2 Pallas is because Pallas' orbit around the Sun is inclined by 35 degrees, making it very difficult if not nearly improbable to send a space probe in that direction from Earth. It requires a lot of fuel and change in velocity and momentum to orbit Pallas.

High-inclination destinations are for the Orion nuclear-pulse rocket. The Orion drive is best run from the Arctic or Antarctic latitudes where they can't EMP anything important

Asteroids, including those in the asteroid belt have been suggested as a possible site of human colonization. Some of the driving forces behind this effort to colonize asteroids include the survival of humanity, as well as economic incentives associated with asteroid mining. The process of colonizing asteroids does have many obstacles that must be overcome for human habitation, including transportation distance, lack of gravity, temperature, radiation, and psychological issues.

The focus for humanity should be establishing bases on both the Moon and Mars (elsewhere if possible), not so much on galactic scientific studies. Given the cycles this planet has gone through in the past, it would be wise to have humanities footprints elsewhere... Just is case. Pretty much all efforts since Apollo, have gone to science, so I think they've had the limelight long enough and we need a change of focus for a bit. Once bases have been established, the scientists can then go back to their exploring.

Is there any such thing as 'empty space'? If you ask a fish what it is surrounded by it would probably say, "Nothing. It's empty space", because water has surrounded it forever and it has no concept of what it is or it's lack. To the fish, the water is 'nothing'. Water doesn't exist by the fishes own perception. So I ask again. Is there any such thing as 'empty space'?
