I think this is one of the best looking SUVs on the road. I dropped by the Aston Martin Newport Beach on my bicycle and they were really nice and professional. Even offered a test drive without even asking.
Gotta love how Doug highlights that the DBX 707 is almost a bargain compared to the Urus Performante - yet their value score at the end is identical 😂 Classic Doug, never change
His score is designed to cover everything from a '68 Rambler to a Koenigsegg Jesko. The DBX and the Urus may as well be the same vehicle when you consider the issue at that scale.
@@MrArcticPOWER These super SUV's are purchased with the implicit intent of impressing one's peers. They are merely decent as track cars and their on-road practicality is compromised. If your game is wooing members of a social pecking order this machine could propel you sufficiently beyond pretty much any car you could (ever) buy at the local Chrysler dealer.
I really like this SUV, however I do think (personally) that the less "techy" aspect of this car is actually a selling feature. I'd rather have fewer points of failure than minor convenience upgrades. Great video though. Awesome to see hardware like this.
Coolest Quirk of the video are those slick license "plates" that Aston Newport seems to have. Looks like an E-Ink screen they can program with the temp registration, or have it in a display mode. Seen these in grocery stores for quickly adjusting prices, but never seen one on a car. Reminds me of the old "rotate a plate" James Bond gadget in the DB5 :)
Funny. Because I've never seen those. I wrote a comment about them asking if those are really digital license plates? I noticed he didn't point them out.
It definitely is more special than a Urus. Here in LA I see at least one Urus on that road almost every day (and I see two or more in a day way more often than many would think). I've seen so many Uruses on the road, when I see one now I almost treat it like any other regular luxury SUV. However, I've only seen one Aston Martin DBX so far. If I were to get a high performance SUV, it'd most likely be the DBX 707.
@@AspireGMD 200K soccer mom SUV and 700 horse power; and just to sit in that lovely I-10 traffic. Mostly idle. American public infrastructure is so broken.
Nobody buys those kinds of vehicles. That's poor man thinking. Get a 36-month lease for the equivalent of the rent on a nice apartment. After three years you gonna be tired of it anyhow.
I'm not big on Super car tuners and designs, but what Mansory did to this thing is AMAZING! Just a few matching lottery numbers and that baby will be mine.
Great review as usual! Unpopular opinion: who cares if it doesn’t have all the latest tech, it’s a driver’s car meant to be driven. Why have a car that drives for you if it’s meant to be driven? I’ve never understood why people want a car that changes lanes and self drives if it meant to be driven…🤷🏽♂️
Because more FEMALE buyers than ever before means having to dilute traditional driver's values. Sadly, even most luxury dealership employees wouldn't know about heel & toe, pitch .vs. yaw & so on.
That’s exactly the problem I have with these cars. HPs went to stratosphere yet speed limits stay the same and traffic laws are stricter than ever. Plus, car makers have to compensate this ridiculous power bump with all sorts of electronic and mechanical systems that aid the car and prevent you from doing stupid shit ending up in disconnecting driver from the road. What you end up with is that you don’t enjoy driving this car as much as your Mustang even at 3x power
@@baronmunchausen645 this is definitely something to consider, I have to say believe it or not Mazda actually does a really good job with making a car that while not the best on paper technically ,but drives really nice and a lot more special than the numbers would reflect
I’m in UK driving a RHD. The hood latch is also on the passenger side. So it appears to be a conscious decision to always put it in the passenger footwell.
It's a tradition going back to the old GT days where the passenger always acts as a mechanic. "Hey Jeeves, the engine is boiling, go open the bonnet and check on it, will ya?"
Not the newest tech. I'll almost take that as a win. It means you get real buttons for a lot of things. Instead of everything being touchscreen controlled. 👍 And it may just be me. But I don't think those advanced driver assist things like self driving. Is the most important thing, when you're in a car that is built as a drivers car. Loved the video, as always. 😊🙌
@@MrManBuzz Well yes and no. Personally I hate when they make everything touch controlled. Sure it looks nice, but buttons just works better when you use them while driving. (Most companies also do that because it's cheaper to slap a screen on the dash. Instead of spending a lot of money on design and layout of buttons) And I would probably go for something else, if I wanted the car to drive for me. But that's just my opinion. 😊 I do however agree with the fact that it is a bit dated. They should have touch control on the few things they do have on the screen.
Wow Doug I’m so happy you finally mentioned the tire specs, thank you! Wish you would in more reviews, minor I know but something I’m always curious about
Not about the car, but I think it's neat that the dealer is using the digital e-ink license plates on their vehicles. They advertise the dealership until a car goes on a test drive at which point they change it to show dealer plates. Better than having to prop a plate in the back window or risk scratching the paint with the magnet backed plate. Only legal in a few states, but kind of neat to see.
The umbrella looks like they just stuffed it in as an afterthought, and there’s no way to get at it without getting wet, unlike the hidden umbrella in a Rolls Royce.
Have you considered doing a POV camera for the drive portion.. seeing nothing but your face the entire time doesn’t really do much for the viewing experience
2:17 - this used to be an Aston "bug" - as you say, they didn't move the latch when they converted from RHD to LHD. But it's been that way on so many Astons for so long it's now a deliberate feature - it has become a tradition. Wouldn't change it even if they could.
Along with the hood latch being on the right/passenger side, looks like they also didn't switch the button for Drive on the dash - makes sense to be on the far right for a right hand drive car - closer to the driver. But seems far away from the driver for a left hand drive car.
That whole set up seems very convoluted and dumb. It's either stretching to reach Drive or stretching to reach Reverse, who thought it was a good idea to put that on the very top of the dash when the center console is much more easily reached.
I like push button autos, but the buttons should be clustered together on the driver's side of dash between the steering wheel and the door, like how they were on 1950's Dodges/Chryslers. The hood release in the passenger footwell is a tradition from the old days where you would always keep a mechanic with you as a passenger while doing open road cross-country GT races.
I may be wrong (have 2 ex’s that would concur) but, openings behind the rear wheel wells is to reduce the air pressure created inside wheel wells, which creates a fair amount of drag.
My neighbor just got one of these in that darkish green, it looks alright. She replaced her Bentley Bentayga with it, not sure about that decision, I think the Bentley had way more presence.
I have not been a fan of the current generation of Aston Martins for some time; mainly due to the amount of Mercedes components in them that just stop these cars being an "Aston Martin" to me. And yes I know a lot of the older Astons had Ford, Mazda, Jaguar and Citroën components in them but they had just enough style and substance to keep them an "Aston Martin". But this DBX 707...I love it! They've tipped the balance enough to make me feel this car is more Aston Martin than Mercedes...and I don't even like SUV's!
Hopefully Aston will make enough money with those SUVs to finish the Valkyrie. The people that paid the deposits are probably getting pretty pissed by now 😆
The valkyrie has been done for some time, customer cars have been delivered. Anyone who put a deposit on a tesla cybertruck or roadster though... those guys are fucked 😆
Most people don't realize the reason why the hood/bonnet release is in the passenger side footwell is because traditionally in the old days of cross-country GT racing, you would always have a passenger to act as navigator and mechanic. If an issue with the engine came up while driving, you would pull over and say something like "oh bugger, the engine is boiling....Jeeves, be a good man and check under the bonnet, will you?". And that's why the hood release is on the passenger side. From what I understand it's also reversed on the right hand drive models too for that very reason.... it's just an old British tradition. Sort of like how Porsche carries on the old racing tradition of placing the ignition key on the left side of the steering wheel, so you could hop in and start up with your left hand, while quickly slamming it into 1st gear with your right hand.
I think for the future really fast suv they should make the whole front end one big grille. It’s almost just as much a competition as the power and speed
Granted a lot of other SUVs stretch the definition too so it's not strictly the Model X, but I'd personally consider the Model X an egg minivan more than anything. Like a modern day fast Previa.
I think this is the first time i ever heard him using the 0-60 time from a magazine and not manufacturer times. NO WAY does the cayenne, x5, e63 and rs6/rsq8 look better than the DBX!!!! It's funny how you have all the german cars higher in styling!!
"Loud" start mode sounds quieter than my old 17 Chevy SS sedan when it was still stock! Once I put 1 7/8" headers, no cats, Kooks exhaust and a big cam, that SS woke the dead. It was OFFENSIVE when it started up😂
23" tyres, now they are definitely going to be pricey and hard to come by. I know from my experience working in a tyre shop that anything 20" and above is costly and can be a pain to get a hold of.
My favorite SUV, always has been. Hate the color, but glad they dared to do it. I wouldn't want the 707 since the 'average' DBX is more than anyone will ever need from any SUV (excepting the infotainment), assuming one has a thick bank roll at your disposal. If you have to have any SUV (over any Vantage) I guess this is your car/truck. Aston-Martin simply makes some of the most desirable and attractive cars on the road and I would take almost any of them over the equivalent Porsche model....... and I love Porsches! They do need to give up on the gear selectors. They just don't work and never really did aesthetically especially with the D-drive selector being the fartest away from the actual driver. What? Still, love the car, um, SUV, um, DBX-vehicle-thingy-sporty-whatever, just give me one, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doug, I just want to say thank you. In a world of intense instability, your regular reviews provide me a consistency that helps me relax and switch off from all the other shit going on. Please never change your format and keep doing what you’re doing.
