WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Chris claims that peer review is useless because peer review proved that some claims were false.

So theists believe if you can't observe it, it's not true? Yet they believe in biblical stories without being there to observe what happened.

Mike's wrong. If you are truly worried about Pascal's wager, then that's about believing. Yet you talk about family and social circles that might cast you out. That eliminates Pascal s wager. No matter which god you pick or no god, your family has nothing to do with you not going to hell. All of that is pointless. You can lie if you have to. If you find god, it may not line up with them. So you'll be outcast anyway.

Mike said he's stuck on Pascal's wager. And, sadly, they left many orphaned points on that. But he mentioned fear of Christian he'll after death. They opened up the Shopping Mall of Hells. He fell back on _the social hell he'd experience before death._ From ostracism as "now Other" by his community. He is coerced by both the fake threat and the real one.

Chris call. "I dunno if I can believe a bunch of stories about miracles and resurrections. Those are just claims. I'm a skeptic. I need evidence." "Oh, you got a handy other claim about a skeptic--ONE skeptic among his whole crew. That guy wanted proof. He fingered those holes. He got his proof." You say Jesus and miracles and red sea and stuff. I don't buy it. You say there was a skeptic present who did tests and was satisfied? Right. I'm sold.

Interesting that Chris calls himself a 'Doubting Thomas' when the fairy tale of that incident involved showing Thomas evidence which he accepted. Chris, on the other hand, basically refuses to consider the evidence of evolution.

I know we all enjoy ragging on this chris guy but I see him truly as someone who WANTS to understand but doesn’t have the capacity to review the evidence. He wants to see evidence plainly flat in front of him with no abstract or complicated terminology and I think that IS possible but I just dont know what it is. Maybe an image of the tree of evolution showing plainly how every animal ever falls into this perfect family tree thats supported by dna evidence? Maybe a demonstration of artificial selection and how artificial selection proves that natural selection happens? I feel like hes so close but so far from understanding.

Then you are mistaken. He CLEARLY had no interest in a productive discussion, he shut down every opportunity. And you don't get to blame the INFORMATION for being complicated. Tough shit. Do better. If you care about the truth then you do the work and stop whining about it. Reality does not OWE Chris an easy explanation, nor is it to blame for his inability to comprehend the truth when he hears it. He only wanted to debate, nothing more, and he lost badly.

Actually matt here is completely wrong on evolution crumbling with a young earth, if that is proven to be the case that the earth is 10 years old or whatever there is still so much evidence that it does nothing to disprove it happening, only that the exact process must have happened very faster than previously thought or that new process effecting it in a way to speed it up or something similar.
@presidentobummer447
@presidentobummer447 2 года назад
Even if you wouldn't need multiple generations for meaningful changes to occur, just one generation per species would take it way over 6000 years. You can't just infinitely "accelerate" such a process. We animals have lifespans and gestation periods. So young earth definitely crumbles.

How do you explain science to someone with a 3rd grade education, in the short time allotted on the show?
@ringo666
@ringo666 4 года назад
HBC...if you asked me a question that: 1. is common knowledge; 2. takes more than 1-3 minutes to explain/clarify; and 3. I don't HAVE that time available I would tell you the same thing. Nobody needs to spoon-feed you, walk you through easily-accessible information, or do your research for you. People who believe that these ARE necessary past age 15 need to be sat down and Gibbs-slapped.

Aren't most atheists just like St. Thomas the Apostle? More agnostic than dogmatic atheism If they saw proof they would believe, simple as that. Jesus never condemned Thomas for doubting. .

@Please Complete All Fields First off thank you for your civil, enlightening and mature response, most of the responses I get on here are from malignant assholes with sticks up their asses and serious chips on their shoulders. As for the questions in your last paragraph, Id say this. All these works, the Bible, the Koran, Book of Mormon, etc have serious problems. There are good concepts in there as well but you have to pick through the evil shit. I'd focus on who the messenger is. By all accounts Jesus, and lets for argument sake say he existed, delivered a good message and had an exemplary life. He wasn't advocating war and sleeping with children like Mohammad or advocating polygamy like Smith. I'd have a problem even if those two came back in following their path. Jesus on the other has a pretty clean slate so I'd be more inclined to have an open mind. This doesn't mean I would be raising questions about the evil in the Bible. My position is that there is something out there that does care for us. What it is adheres close to what Jesus was preaching but Buddha and others were on the right track as well. Too many things have happened in my life to say that coincidence or luck pulled my ass out of the fire all those times. Life is basically hell, either created by humans and/or natural forces but there is something that is there that lets it all play out but can intervene if you ask it. Is that proof of God? No. Just a feeling I get when I'm in trouble and something comes to comfort me and says everything will be alright in the long run. Look we all die. Being optimistic about their being something beyond this but realistic that their might not be seems better than being convinced that there's nothing and all this is pointless.

I'd like to know what 'dogmatic atheism' is. Also, everyone who is HONEST, theist or atheist, will cop to agnosticism, because no one truly knows if there is a god or not.

@@robcochran6213 and you talked about other replies from assholes.... It's stupid to say that I wouldn't believe anyway, even WITH evidence; don't equate "believe" with "worship". No, I wouldn't worship, but I'd freely admit there was a god. Thing is, I've been waiting for that evidence, and NOBODY has it. Safe to say that it just doesn't exist. (And let's keep it simple -- Paul is credited with saying that "without the resurrection, all our faith is in vain ." So that's all you boneheads need to prove -- prove the resurrection.)
