You guys have done a fantastic job of helping the viewer to visualize walking through the ancient agora and connecting that with the significance of the philosophy and politics of the day. Really great stuff here. Thank you for doing it!
Yikes, that ending, lol. The procession to the Parthenon must've been a sight to see. I'm unfamiliar with the concept of a Meritocracy. The temptation to heroize it was definitely there, but I couldn't see how it'd function in the modern age. What kind(s) of merit is most meaningful and who gets to decide that? It'd be a mess.
You are leaving something out. Pericles had a son with a woman who was not Athenian. He bent the rules to allow his son to be a citizen. Actually, he requested of the Athenian demos to grant a request that his son be granted citizenship. And they agreed because of Pericles's contribution to the greatness of the city of Athens.
Man i feel like we really lost aomething as a species that we no longer live the way the ancient greeks lived. I would go back to this era, hang out with antisthenes, socrates, diogenes etc
